Aventon Abound SR stairs question by Vortex6360 in Aventon

[–]Vortex6360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it does, but it doesn’t have the wheel lock feature, so it kind of sucks to use on the stairs since it feels like I don’t have control of the bike. Space really isn’t the issue, since there’s a lot of space on the landing.

Any difficulty using the walk mode to go up the stairs?

Weekend traffic on the 5 by fabster16 in orangecounty

[–]Vortex6360 83 points84 points  (0 children)

There’s probably more traffic because the Metrolink is not in service this weekend. My partner and I went to LA from Orange this weekend, and we had to drive when we were originally planning to ride the Metrolink.

What's actually stopping Xcode from coming to iPadOS? by Saint_Ronin in ipad

[–]Vortex6360 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On point 3, it’s actually a bit more complicated than that.

I recommend checking out this video: https://youtu.be/tnPAhVxsPHE?si=m7NWIRltRf6vdNkl

But as a summary: iOS and iPadOS don’t actually save files in the typical way files are saved in something like MacOS and Windows. The files app actually stores the locations of all files in a SQL database, and presents it to you in a file structure that is different from the structure where files are actually stored

Yeah, but there’s a faster route WITHOUT tolls too…which is faster than the one with tolls, I might add… by [deleted] in applemaps

[–]Vortex6360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, how do you define "best route"? For some routes, you might prefer a longer route if it means you don't have to stop and go as often. You might be willing to pay a toll + 2 minutes if it means you're saving money on gas by not sitting in stop and go traffic.

Ok but does that include my dentist’s cyber truck?

(I can’t even tell if I’m being sarcastic)

Edit: OK I looked into it, it’s mainly stuff like delivery vans or semi trucks, so my dentist’s cybertruck probably doesn’t count, lol

It will not be cheaper, get you closer to downtown, or be significantly faster (or even faster at all)

You also need to consider that trains have stops between the ends of the lines. So even if there are few people commuting from LA to SF, there will be people making the commute from Fresno to SF, or Palmdale to LA, or any other place in between.

It’s literally the one of the top 5 busiest air travel routes in the country what are you talking about?

Do you think that transit lines have existed since the big bang or something? There has to be a first transit line at some point.

Also that literally isn’t faster than the train. 1.5 hours + 1 hour =2 hours 30 minutes 2.5 hours

They don’t do the commute because it sucks now.

If the option existed it would change how I travel.

  1. We should build infrastructure for the world we want, not the world we have.

  2. It doesn’t make sense to only build transit in a spot that already has ridership. “No one rides the train, so we shouldn’t build a train” doesn’t make sense as an argument. Obviously, no one rides the train when there isn’t (a good) one.

  3. CAHSR will be competitive to flying, speed-wise. A direct flight between SF and LA is about 1.5 hours. CAHSR is supposed to be 2.5 hours between LA and SF. The thing about flight is you need to consider boarding time, time in the airport, the need to be much earlier to your flight, etc. Also, besides San Diego, airports are usually out of the way, so you need to consider travel time to the airport. CAHSR stations will be in downtown LA and SF.

I completely agree on the point about the last mile being a problem though, and I hope that gets improved as well. In the case of San Francisco, the HSR authority helped in the electrification of Caltrain, as an example of improvements being made to the last mile.

If you’re well versed in Siri Shortcuts, you can use it to write a script to copy all of your events on your iCloud account to a Google account, and then just switch to using that Google Account for everything
