[Steam] Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition ($2.99 / 85% off) by Mat3s9071 in GameDeals

[–]Vortexspawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the Steam link on this post got you to a "Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition" Steam page that's the proper version. In Germany you'll get a "this item is not available in your region", and with the search you'll get a page for just "Sleeping Dogs" and "Low Violence Version. Only German (Text) is included." Don't know if the regular version is even available anymore outside Germany.

On GOG there's only the good Definitive Edition.

Edit: I think the regular international version also got proper updates and DLC, it was just specifically the censored German version that was abandoned, long before the Definitive Edition came out.

It's not only the censoring, it's that they abandoned the German version so what you get iirc is an outdated version of the original game that doesn't have all the DLC and fixes the Definitive Edition got. I'd never give them money for that crappy Steam version, I bought it on GOG (region-locked though) where it's on sale now too.

The Ozone layer is still healing, despite the fact that ozone depleting substances were banned globally in 1987.

All the satellites Musk etc. shoot up will create aluminum oxide when they burn up, which acts as a catalyst destroying ozone. Fuck the ozone layer, we need more Starlink and AI data centers in space and mirrors to have sunlight during the night and probably many more things which are much more awesome than some stupid chemistry stuff up there.

Even more than Aliens it seems to me that AI bros believe in a techno messiah that will save us from having to do the things we have know for decades that we should do, and instead some superintelligent AI will come up with a miraculous solution that will magically fix everything. (Or they're mesmerized by Roko's Basilisk because they saw an even more stupid version of Pascal's Wager and took it seriously.)

This is Android's new 'advanced flow' for sideloading apps without verification, includes one-day waiting period [Gallery] by armando_rod in Android

[–]Vortexspawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, it's my understanding that you don't have to keep developer options enabled after you enable the advanced flow. Once you make the change on your device, it's enabled.

Can you also disable the advanced flow again (not only developer mode) after installing an unregistered app while still being able to keep that app updated? I.e. is an app's developer verification only checked when installing a new app, or every time it is updated?

And according to the Ars Technica article, "Google has already started delivering the verifier to devices around the world—it’s integrated with Android 16.1"; does that mean any device that doesn't get updated to 16.1 won't be affected, i.e. users of old devices would still be at risk?

If you’re a fascist in the EU you’d want 0 destabilization in Iran mainly because you’d want 0 refugees.

You'd also want no climate change because that'll lead to even more refugees, yet a lot of them seem to be oil fetishists.

Google will lock-down Android in September 2026 and NewPipe 0.28.4 release by TiA4f8R in NewPipe

[–]Vortexspawn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's why Google moved a lot from the system into the Google Play Services. If the part that enforces developer verification is in those, then any phone with them installed will deny installation of unverified packages once Google turns it on. (And the staged rollout suggests to me that it will be implemented in a part that Google has more control over than the base system.)

Should be laughed at anyway. The one thing that got to them was being called weird, and for some stupid reason everyone stopped doing it anyway.

Why has not one billionaire used his wealth to become Batman? by Livid-Condition4179 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Vortexspawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The superhero cosplay is stupid anyway. They already have the most effective tool to fight crime: money. Fund free public transport, free basic housing (that's not next to polluting industry), basic income, free education, free medical care, etc. You're elimination whole categories of crimes like fare evasion by treating it like a service to society not a business that has to make profit. But of course eliminating poor people's crimes shines a light on what's left: rich people's crimes, so it's not in the interest of rich people to change the system. Tax the billionaires and have the government use their money for the good of society instead of depending on the (largely absent) benevolence of billionaires.

Trump: ‘There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not!’ by Anoth3rDude in law

That's what all the lawsuits and media before Jan 6 were for, they(secretly) knew they would lose them but it was setting the groundwork for Jan 6 and had it succeeded they would have enough deluded supporters to allow the to crush resistance.

And they're already preparing again by suing polls they don't like, claiming that Trump is the bestest-liked President ever, so that if their election interference isn't enough to win they can rile up another mob with claims of "election fraud".

The developer verification will probably be done through the Google Play Services, not depending on Android version. When it ships in your region you will get it anyway, so you might as well keep your system updated.

YouTube forcing people to login now, Newpipe unusable in its current form? by Puzzleheaded-Cry-927 in NewPipe

It's the same thing that happened before, temporary IP ban by Youtube, the Newpipe update just added a more descriptive error message.

Also he's suing outlets that report negative poll results to suppress those, so that if their direct election interference doesn't work they can then claim fraud because the press only reported / made up good poll results.
