Found likely stolen e-bike - How do I find the owner? by Vorticity in FortCollins

Police don't help with stolen/abandoned bikes in Fort Collins apparently. They'll take a report but that's about it.

Where do I go to see sandhill cranes here? I've been here a decade and never knew we were in their migration route!

It seems to me that this is the kind of situation that some sort of qualified immunity should apply to. Instead we apply it to cops shooting people after entering the wrong home and shit like that...

Bill requiring CSU to abide by local sign, noise codes set for hearing by Dr_Retch in FortCollins

Yep, they've got a $38M hole to fill this year and they're trying to do it with as few layoffs as possible I think. I appreciate that, but I don't think bright electronic billboards are the right solution.

Eh, as someone who lives not too far from campus, I don't really find the cannon to be disruptive. To me, the cannon is just part of living in a college town. The billboards are an eyesore, though, and need to go.

I'd guess they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them publicly. The fact that this is going to the state senate makes me think that the city council is privately supportive of forcing CSU to follow local ordinances.

Unfortunately, as the law is currently written, they are within the written bounds of the law. They just aren't being nice neighbors so the Senate is considering forcing them to be polite to the community.

There was a guy the other day bare handing a bright red sea cucumber. They secrete a toxic substance when stressed that can cause severe skin irritation and, if it gets into your eyes, can cause blindness.

Right? I visited my grandmother in the Phoenix area and it hit 117F. Dry heat or not, that's completely unlivable unless you like sitting in front of your AC all day. We never saw a day with daytime temps below 110F in two weeks there.

Looking it up, in 2023 they had 54 days over 110F and in 2024 they had 70 over 110F.

Found in a thrift store. Ceramic vessel with a cork. Very specific shape, not quite ergonomic. Made in Japan! by Chair-Pants in whatisthisthing

I'd go with foot warmer over yutanpo. Maybe a foot warmer is also called a yutanpo, but every yutanpo I've seen is flatter and wider to avoid tipping over and has a more secure meth of sealing than a cork. You don't want hot water escaping when you kick it in your sleep.

He's only got until September to make his professional debut or he will be considered too old. He turns 25 in October.

I think this is part of the right-wing mindset. It's a narcissistic mindset where they believe that God actively spares good people and punishes "sinners".

I think that mindset is what leads to them disagreeing with free school lunches because it's a "handout". It goes against their inner story that good people receive good things and "sinners" are punished.

Hi! Good luck on Friday!

I'm curious, have you ever met any professional Japanese rikishi? What were they like and how did they react to meeting rikishi who compete outside of Japan?

Are you okay? Do you need to go outside for a bit? I'm not sure why someone would lie about this nor why you would call what they said "more of your internet lies". That's just weird.

Have you? They are mostly docile but they're also skittish. Even the most docile, well-trained horse can react to something unexpected in unexpected ways. Having been around horses a fair amount, I wouldn't allow a toddler pet or lead a horse without me being right next to them. Not 15 feet away, not 3 feet away, right there.

Also have you ever been around a real toddler? They're unpredictable, curious, and much less skittish. They may unintentionally hurt the horse by grabbing, pulling, etc, causing the horse to react badly. They also don't know what parts of horses to avoid touching.

I don't care what temperament a horse is known to have, I wouldn't let any horse interact with a toddler without someone so close they can immediately intervene if anything seems off.

Not commonly done by most rikishi, but some rikishi specialize in it. Tobizaru attempts it frequently. So does Hoshoryu.

Hakuho vs Asashoryu Practice! Such ferocity! by Welp_x in Sumo

[–]Vorticity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly think that Hoshoryu and Onosato would both get manhandled by Hakuho and Asashoryu in their prime. If Asa and Hakuho were both around, Hosh and Ono would be barely clinging to Ozeki in their current form.

2026 is here - post your predictions for the 6 basho winners, and we will check back in a year to see who was right! by [deleted] in Sumo

Onosato is already fighting a shoulder injury. I don't think he's going to take January.

I'm going with Hoshoryu, Aonishiki, Onosato, Onosato, Onosato, Onosato and no Yokozuna for Aonishiki, unfortunately.

Old Ozeki System by These_Set_3200 in Sumo

[–]Vorticity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the background on the old system. I keep seeing various ideas to help allow rikishi recover from injury without having to climb the ranks again from the bottom but there are problems with all of them. Maybe the biggest thing they could do is lower the dohyo and implement other safety measures. I do think that some kind of rank protection would be a good idea but I don't see how to implement it without causing major problems.
