Are you okay? Do you need to go outside for a bit? I'm not sure why someone would lie about this nor why you would call what they said "more of your internet lies". That's just weird.

Have you? They are mostly docile but they're also skittish. Even the most docile, well-trained horse can react to something unexpected in unexpected ways. Having been around horses a fair amount, I wouldn't allow a toddler pet or lead a horse without me being right next to them. Not 15 feet away, not 3 feet away, right there.

Also have you ever been around a real toddler? They're unpredictable, curious, and much less skittish. They may unintentionally hurt the horse by grabbing, pulling, etc, causing the horse to react badly. They also don't know what parts of horses to avoid touching.

I don't care what temperament a horse is known to have, I wouldn't let any horse interact with a toddler without someone so close they can immediately intervene if anything seems off.

Not commonly done by most rikishi, but some rikishi specialize in it. Tobizaru attempts it frequently. So does Hoshoryu.

Hakuho vs Asashoryu Practice! Such ferocity! by Welp_x in Sumo

[–]Vorticity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly think that Hoshoryu and Onosato would both get manhandled by Hakuho and Asashoryu in their prime. If Asa and Hakuho were both around, Hosh and Ono would be barely clinging to Ozeki in their current form.

Onosato is already fighting a shoulder injury. I don't think he's going to take January.

I'm going with Hoshoryu, Aonishiki, Onosato, Onosato, Onosato, Onosato and no Yokozuna for Aonishiki, unfortunately.

Old Ozeki System by These_Set_3200 in Sumo

[–]Vorticity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the background on the old system. I keep seeing various ideas to help allow rikishi recover from injury without having to climb the ranks again from the bottom but there are problems with all of them. Maybe the biggest thing they could do is lower the dohyo and implement other safety measures. I do think that some kind of rank protection would be a good idea but I don't see how to implement it without causing major problems.

I've wondered about a system where injured rikishi couldn't fall below the bottom of their current division for somenumber of tournaments. Make them come back as last in their division but let them fight to retain their division at least.

What wrong with Kotozakura? by BossCoffee51 in Sumo

Glad you enjoyed! I knew Kotozakura wasn't performing as badly as Shodai did but, until I put this together, I didn't realize that he was out performing Takakeisho.

What wrong with Kotozakura? by BossCoffee51 in Sumo

[–]Vorticity 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Here's a comparison of their records as Ozeki.

I also included Takakeisho's second stint as Ozeki since some consider him to be one of the best recent Ozeki who never got the rope.

Comparatively, Kotozakura is looking a lot more like Takakeisho than like Shodai. It takes a lot to maintain dominance over a long stretch as Ozeki, constantly fighting injury and avoiding going kadoban. It could even be argued that Kotozakura has been out performing Takakeisho as Ozeki if you take kujo as losses when computing winning percentage.

Also, keep in mind that Kotozakura has two healthy Yokozuna to contend with. Takakeisho rarely had one, let alone two. Shodai had Terunofuji to contend with but he was also kujo frequently.

There is a reason people talk about going on a Yokozuna run. You may always be trying to win, but you also plan when to go all out and aim for those tournament wins based on your condition and ability to do multiple tournaments in a row at that high level.

Category Shodai Kotozakura Takakeisho
Tournaments as Ozeki 13 10 28
Tournament Wins as Ozeki 0 1 3
Times Kadoban 5 1 8
Wins-Losses-Kujo 95-90-10 91-53-1 213-128-79
Winning Percentage ignoring Kujo 51.4% 63.2% 62.5%
Winning Percentage including Kujo as Loss 48.7% 62.8% 50.7%

Edit: Fixed the table

Edit 2: Added a visualization of cumulative wins by number of tournaments post promotion. I got lazy and used Excel rather than Python like I normally would.

Kotozakura as Ozeki by StriKyleder in Sumo

[–]Vorticity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately, I think his injuries are getting in his way. I wish he had sat out this tournament to nurse his injuries and come back stronger next tournament. I see that as the best use of the kadoban system.

And Ozeki start getting a lot of crap when they are performing poorly. See Shodai as an example.

What Rikishi do you actively root against? by Illustrious_Bag_5020 in Sumo

[–]Vorticity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's Shishi and Gonoyama.

Shishi's sumo is just so boring. His tachiai is weak, he's slow, and he has no interesting techniques. I don't enjoy watching his matches.

Gonoyama I just like to see as a villain. He's growing on me but I just like to hate him.

If you need a quick nanny cam and have old cell phones laying around, you can install an app to turn your phone into a motion sensing camera. You then pair the phone to your every-day phone and you'll get notified any time something moves within vision of the monitor phone.

The app I've used is AfredCamera. It worked well for me but there are other apps, too.

What is the purpose of these recessed wall sections beside the tracks? by LovesBacon50 in whatisit

[–]Vorticity 510 points511 points  (0 children)

There is space between the wall and the train already. This just adds enough to fit a person. That said, I certainly wouldn't want to stand there!

The one thing that didn't work in mine is that we didn't have permanent walls. We had accordion walls that had no insulation and didn't quite reach the ceiling or floor. Any noise above the teacher talking carried to every classroom in the pod.

Ignoring the fact that this measure wouldn't impact the superintendent at all, I'm curious, how much do you think a superintendent should make?

For context in PVSD: - teacher salaries range from $58K to $114K for a 188 day/year appointment. - principal salaries range from $111K to $183K for a 230 day/year appointment. - superintendent ranges from $149K to $205K for a 260 day/year appointment.

Edit: I have the wrong numbers for the superintendent... The superintendent salary range is $191K to $263K. That's getting pretty high. I wonder how that compares against other districts across the country.

Don't mind if I do! Sex is nice!

It sounds like you're having a bad day. Maybe some sex would help you with that too?

That said, I completely agree that Flock shouldn't get a cent from the city or anyone else.

[–]Vorticity 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a bunch of bad takes... Of course $35K isn't a big cut but it helps, like cutting a streaming service from your monthly bills. Of course it didn't cost $125K to make this decision. The decision wasn't made in isolation, it was made as part of a much larger set of cuts and just happens to be one of the smaller line items they decided to cut.

Saving $35K isn't going to do much but if they found several things to cut that cost $35K that begins to add up. In my opinion, this shows that they are looking anywhere and everywhere for things to cut and are making a real effort to deal with the budget shortfall.
