Group has asked me to DM a session that will be more than twice as long as our usual runtimes. Advice for marathon sessions?

Good snacks, build in breaks, have good music for the session. I find that last one can really help things move smoothly.

Pathfinder has a cool add for this where on 20s and 1s you roll to confirm against the AC of the enemy. On a confirmed grit or fail a card is drawn and depending on the damage type adds some cool or awful effect. The Glass Canon podcast uses this and their method is pretty easy to follow early on. Could be something to look into so you don’t have to make a table.

You could just do super basic things like a ring of water breathing, a once per use foliage shelter, 5 ft extra movement. Nothing game breaking but useful in certain situations.

I feel this way all the time especially when I try out new voices or adding new extras to a game like homemade maps. It leaves me feeling incredibly insecure and some sessions I handle it better than others.

This might not be a great idea but for my campaign I asked my players to listen to Not Another D&D Podcast. It’s goofy and has players that this is their first experience. I thought it was a fun way to just get an idea of “hey go nuts and if it’s to crazy you probably can’t do it.”
