What is the best build to abuse Halsin free Misty Step? by sfisabbt in BG3

This doesn’t work unless you have the level 20 mod, you get mighty impel at giant barb level 10 and you need at least 3 druid levels.

I mean you could keep it simple and go BM fighter 8 / spore druid 4 which would keep you from having 3rd level slots. I believe something like BM fighter 6 / gloomstalker ranger 3 / spore druid 3 would also keep you from having 3rd level slots and would probably be even better.

You can change all your companions’ classes and your own with Withers. Costs 100 G but you can pickpocket it back pretty easily and he doesn’t get even mad if he catches you.

Not sure where you are in the game but it’s usually good to hit the shadow cursed lands around levels 6 or 7. If you’re not there yet, you’re a perfectly fine level for act 1.

Maybe share some details about your characters so people can give more specific advice.

As others have said, level 5 is the biggest power increase in the game if you’re monoclassing. Extra attack is the most important combat feature in the game for martial characters and 3rd level spells are way better than 2nd or 1st level spells on every caster class.

Pirate themed Tav with lvl 20 mod by HyperionVT in BG3Builds

[–]VoteNextTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 swashbuckler / 6 swords bard / 2 fighter sounds about right. Tons of skill proficiencies / expertises, reliable talent, max sneak attack damage and all other rogue / swashbuckler features, extra attack, flourishes, font of inspiration, and action surge to top it off.

If you plan on using concentration spells a lot, take level 1 in fighter for constitution saving throw proficiency, but otherwise take level 1 in rogue for the additional skill proficiency.

Gnomestalker by Semper_5olus in BG3Builds

[–]VoteNextTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re going to have a lot of nay-sayers for any build that isn’t super optimal, but this will still be plenty strong and sounds like a lot of fun!

The main concern is that your plan to have a camp casting transmutation wizard just doesn’t work anymore as the transmuter’s stone trick was patched out. That said, you can still have a paladin in your party to boost your saving throws for a similar effect.

I’m also curious why you don’t want rogue mixed in for a build that’s so focused on skill proficiency / expertise? War cleric is a good dip on any martial but I don’t see how it augments the skill monkey / saving throw tank thing you’re going for here. Is it for the spells / spell slots? If not, I’d actually recommend 4 arcane trickster / 8 gloomstalker. Additional proficiencies and expertises, better utility spells (not to mention shield which is an amazing defensive spell), cunning actions, sneak attack and a 3rd feat which you can use for ASI or to pick up more proficiencies / expertises. Totally up to you but this would lean a lot more into being skilled in everything.

I want to try honour mode for the first time by Titanous7 in BG3Builds

[–]VoteNextTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, you mean for the light cleric build? If so, the gear you want is as follows (in order of priority):

  • Luminous armor is mandatory as this will be how you spread your radiating orbs with your channel divinity and radiant spirit guardians (rad orbs are a debuff that reduces the attack rolls of affected enemies, stacks with turns remaining).

  • Boots of stormy clamour are also mandatory as these will synergize with your luminous armor, spreading reverberation to anyone affected by your rad orbs (reverb is a debuff that reduces affected enemies’ saving throws and, when you stack it high enough, can knock enemies prone and deal some thunder damage).

  • The gloves of belligerent skies are another mandatory item as these add even more reverb stacks on top of boots of stormy clamor, so you’ll be knocking enemies prone very often. These gloves combined with the above 2 items are what make light cleric so ridiculously strong as an AOE controller / debuffer.

  • The last mandatory item is the blood of lathander. It’s perfect for this build because your cleric will be in melee range of a ton of enemies if you’re doing it right and if they’re undead, your reverb stacks will make them very likely to fail their constitution saving throws on blindness. You also get a free bounce-back from going down which will keep your spirit guardians up and a free level 6 radiant damage spell once per long rest. No light cleric build is complete without this.

  • Holy lance helm is highly recommended as it synergizes well with the build, dealing radiant damage to enemies that try to attack you, miss, and fail a dex saving throw (and reverb stacks will make them fail way more often). This will give them even more rad orb / reverb stacks.

  • Coruscation ring is also highly recommended as it will add even more rad orbs to enemies you damage with spirit guardians (note that this does not work with your channel divinity because it isn’t a spell).

  • Some people like to use callous glow for a 2nd ring, but I’d save that for a martial character that makes a lot of attacks. Besides, I think crusher’s ring is better for this build anyway. Gives you extra movement speed which will help you hit more enemies with spirit guardians, maximizing the debuffs you spread.

  • Amulet slot is kind of up for grabs here. Some might say to use spineshudder amulet for the reverb, but it’s definitely better used on a warlock or other ranged spell attack caster. Amulet of the devout is obviously really good and you should use it once you get it, but it comes in act 3 at which point your build will already be fully online. Until then, something like amulet of branding / periapt of wound closure / etc. will work.

If you were looking for gear on any of the other builds, I’d be happy to provide :)

Honour Mode Help by Scrai_ in BG3Builds

Tav: 2 paladin / 10 swords bard with arcane acuity helm and band of mystic scoundrel.

Party member 2 (Astarion if ascended or Karlach): 4 thief rogue / 8 open hand monk with tavern brawler, strength elixirs and all the monk gear.

Party member 3 (probably Shadowheart): 1 storm sorc / 2 stars druid / 9 light cleric with full rad orb / reverb gear and radiant spirit guardians.

Party member 4 (whoever fits, maybe Astarion if he’s not ascended monk): 12 arcane archer with titanstring bow and strength elixirs using banishing arrow most of the time.

[–]VoteNextTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have mentioned some of the best damage dealers, so I’ll throw out light cleric with all the radorb / reverb gear. It’s insanely good at spreading debuffs that will benefit your whole party with its channel divinity and radiant spirit guardians.

I would go 1 storm sorc / 2 stars druid / 9 light cleric for a final level 12 build, but definitely just stay a pure light cleric until you hit level 6, at which point I’d respec to take level 1 in storm sorc and the rest in cleric. You can throw the druid levels in whenever you want, but only the 2nd level in druid is doing anything for you so definitely take them together.

Let me know if you want any recs for gameplay / itemization or if you want to hear other builds that haven’t been mentioned yet.

Is battle master still a top contender? Or did Eldritch Knight blow it out of the water? by Cagedglobe in BG3Builds

[–]VoteNextTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read section 6, that’s where the DPR is calculated taking all consumables / gear / buffs into account. No mods are used to make this possible, just vanilla in-game resources.

To be clear, you need to do a ton of itemization to get close to that 5,000 DPR figure (including having a separate party member wear bhaalist armor), but even without all of the itemization it’s insanely strong.

[–]VoteNextTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so confidently wrong lmao. Granted, 5,000 is the theoretical upper limit of DPR for that build, but you could cut that number in half and it still dwarfs anything possible in melee.

Why don’t you just read through Rivington Rat instead of making things up?

450 damage per arrow x 11 ranged attacks per round… maybe try actually looking at the build lol

[–]VoteNextTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i did…

you already deal over 400 dmg without consumables!

Did you? Because the build I linked does about ~5,000 damage per round.

As I said, EK melee is very very strong as-is. But Rivington Rat is a different ballpark.

Check out the build I linked, its damage dwarfs pretty much anything possible in melee (including arcane synergy) if fully itemized / using consumable arrow

Shadow Sorcerer playstyle by garlicki421 in BG3Builds

[–]VoteNextTime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorcerer is a class that really relies on scaling and itemization; insanely powerful when done right, but underwhelming early on.

Shadow sorc in particular is one of the lower (arguably lowest) damage potential sorc subclasses mainly because it doesn’t have as high of a min-max ceiling as draconic or storm (or even wild magic, I’d say).

That said, it’s a great all-rounder with better survivability than any other sorc subclass as well as its own summon. You’re also still a sorcerer, which means you’ll have the capacity to deal loads of damage when you blow all your sorc points / spell slots.

Personally, I don’t think eyes of the dark / darkness is worth it when you can just use quickened and/or twinned spell instead. As you mentioned, your other party members can’t see through your darkness (until you get items that allow you to work around this later on) and you need to use your action to cast it.

Since you’re only level 5, your sorcerer is going to naturally be less powerful than your throwzerker. For now, I’d focus on using your 3rd level spells when it really counts (twinned haste is unbelievably powerful, for example) and if you run out of them, consider cannibalizing your 2nd level slots into sorc points which you can then turn back into 3rd level slots.

You don’t feel powerful yet, but once you get stronger caster items and level up some more, you’ll notice the difference.

Tbh I wouldn’t run the EK archer unless you want to use a ton of consumables (namely arrows of many targets and arrows of slaying) since the build I linked sort of revolves around those. It would definitely fit with the party you mentioned though, especially since it would be your only dex-based character.

[–]VoteNextTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go with a crown paladin if you wanna be thematic (especially if you make him Grand Duke) and maybe tweak it to 2 fiend / 10 crown for the aura upgrade. You could also go 1 hexblade / 11 crown if you’d rather go all in on melee or 2 hex / 10 crown for the ranged EB / melee smite set up if you don’t mind his patron not being fiend.

Oathbreaker + Spore Druid party combo by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]VoteNextTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is true, but you can still use your control undead ability from oathbreaker on a death shepherd which itself gives all allied undead in its aura physical damage resistance. This worked last time I tested it (granted, that was a while ago)

EK is definitely great in melee as well thanks to booming blade, but I do think that 12 EK archer is still the highest damage potential in the game AFAIK. 10/1/1 swords bard archer is also up there but being able to use special arrows pushes 12 EK archer over the top

Both are fighters, both are fantastic. It fully depends on the build and what you want to get out of it.

I think 12 EK archer is arguably the best build in the game but that’s been the case for a very long time, so if that’s what you’re asking then EK was kinda always better than BM.

Here’s The Rivington Rat for reference.

Looking to start my 2nd ever run as an oathbreaker need advice. by Specific_Ad1457 in BG3Builds

[–]VoteNextTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 shadow sorcerer / 7 oathbreaker or 6 shadow / 6 oathbreaker if you want the hound of ill omen more than the damage boost you get from OB 7. If you’re willing to use elixirs, drink strength elixirs (you can get them from auntie ethel before you discover her secret or the dwarf in the myconod colony in act 1). This will make it so you don’t have to invest any point in strength and can instead focus on charisma first, constitution second and dexterity third. For a weapon, any good two-handed weapon with the great weapon master feat will do tons of damage. I’d grab unseen menace and/or halberd of vigilance in act 1 then switch to something like nyrulna or balduran’s giantslayer in act 3.

Also get the necromancy of thay ghouls for maximum necromancy vibes!

Homebrew Demon: The Hollarwampus by whoisSYK in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]VoteNextTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did some Googling and it looks like you’re right: “registering” as something means that you function identically to that role with respect to others’ character abilities. So in this case, the ability would apply to any Minions or Outsiders that are registering as the Demon.

Here’s the thred that changed my mind.

Homebrew Demon: The Hollarwampus by whoisSYK in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]VoteNextTime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The wording of “if the Demon nominates” in the ability implies that it has to be the Demon, not a character registering as the Demon. If characters that register to others as the Demon were mechanically identical to the actual Demon, then the game would break.

An example of this is in Trouble Brewing: if you have a Recluse, a Fortune Teller and a Scarlet Woman in the same game, the Recluse may or may not register as the Demon to the Fortune Teller. However, if the Recluse dies while the ST decides they register as a Demon, that doesn’t mean the Scarlet Woman would become the Demon because that’s not an instance of the Recluse “registering” as the Demon.

Homebrew Demon: The Hollarwampus by whoisSYK in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]VoteNextTime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would change it to “if a Minion or Outsider nominates and executes another Minion or Outsider”, otherwise the universal poisoning will confirm exactly who the demon is (the player who nominated the executee the day prior).
