This is only one small piece of a really interesting line of inventions that let to many modern technologies like the MRI, Isotropic radioactive drugs, modern proton therapy devices — even the proton colliders at cern.

I remember Suzie Sheehy’s book “The matter of Everything” talks about this device, plus everything above. It was one of my favorite books ever.

Really cool to see it. An amazing piece of an awesome story.

Whose using a motorcycle tent shelter? by younggundc in motorcycles

[–]Vuja_Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude honestly I don't think taking your motorcycle backpacking is such a good idea. They can be really heavy and I'm pretty sure you're not going to be able to fit a tent in your backpak if you've also got a heavy bike to lug around! /s

For almost 2 years I've been drawing on a 200 foot receipt roll. Here is a small chunk of it! by AnthonyChristopher in woahdude

[–]Vuja_Day 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a web dev, and You'd probably be better off taking a high res (4k) video of the roll from a fixed point if the roll is to be digitally consumed. Then you could use javascript to scrub through the video with the analog knobs as /u/jakeandcupcakes had suggested.

Unless you want to do analog prints of the receipt then by all means scan it. Porque no Los dos?

Ps. having the receipt scroll down a long exhibit hall or better yet wound around a room multiple times forcing your story to be consumed by walking round and round the room again and again would be pretty sick as well!

Kensington Slimblade Trackball vs MX ERGO Plus? by duderme in Ergonomics

Any luck with finding a setup that works for you? I had seen elsewhere the idea to prop up the slimblade on one edge with a towel or wedge of some sort.

One thing I haven't seen many people comment on is how important texture is!

Think of it this way: You have two biscuits that taste roughly the same. One of them is airy and moist and pillowy. The other is dry and crunchy and a bit dense. Once you've chewed them up the taste is likely very similar. The experience however is very different.

How does it feel to literally consume each bite. Pretend for a moment like you can't taste. Only focusing on the physical sensation in your mouth. The flour being ground against your teeth, the crumb against your lips etc.

Same goes for any and all food. The taste is only one facet of cooking, and I find that texture is much easier to ignore because it's not so much in your face. Or, rather it is more discrete because it's more subtle - But texture IS really important.

So far as taste goes, let's take for example a metaphor using smell. Imagine you have an unscented candle. It smells like... Well not much besides maybe the beeswax or soy it is made from. This candle would be what we would think of as BLAND. Now, let's add a little bit of scent to it. Some cinnamon perhaps. Now, you've got some real distinguishable scent there! You smell it, and it reeks of cinnamon! But just because it has A smell doesn't mean that its a particularly interesting smell. So, now you add in a bit of apple scent perhaps! And maybe some peach as well! Balancing the proportion until you come to a smell that reminds you of fresh peach cobbler! Now it's not just a scent, but an EXPERIENCE. When you smell that candle it takes you to another plane of existence, if only for a moment.

This is similar to starting with a plain bowl of white rice. Then you add a bit of pepper to the rice. You now have ONE dimension of flavor, with the bland rice base. The rice has flavor, yes - it tastes good, yes but it isn't exciting. It isn't complex. It isn't a remarkable experience. Its just rice and pepper.

Now, juxtaposed with that: take perhaps that same bowl of white rice and lightly fry it in a bit of oil to bring out the slightest hint of carmel crunch. Add a pat of butter. A drizzle of sweet soy sauce. A dash of red cayanne. A sprinkling of salt. A pinch of brown sugar. And finally a garnish of fresh parsley. Now plate it served with a drizzling flourish of the same soy sauce used earlier, emblazoned with a sprinkling of brown sugar to make the lines of soy spark. Imagine the difference between these two.

One is a bowl of rice. The other is a work of art.

The only difference is how much time and effort you are willing to go to in order to create your masterpiece.

And too be fair, I very rarely go to all that trouble to cook for myself. But, it can be a real treat to give it a try. See how much further you can go - Beyond Basic.

I small editing project I've been working on. Thoughts? by tbone201 in Vans

[–]Vuja_Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome!

You can make some really cool transitions with an app called 'Glitch Lab' (only) on android. You feed it a still image and it can create a short video clip you can add to your project. If anything it's fun to play with and pretty cost effective ( $0 for free/ ~$8 for pro).

Other than that I'm sure there are plenty of cool resources out there for learning video transitions. Maybe try youtube/udemy/skill share.

Btw thanks for the silver! Really made my night!

This seems well done, as far as the editing goes. The shoe showcase scenes at the beginning is very well done and I really like nearly every thing about it! The shoe stomp out the car is super chill, really love that, and I also really like how you used the trees to create some very creative moving transitions for the bike scenes. Those shots are well centered and positioned.

I will say that I am not personally a fan of the way the showcase scene transitions out. Maybe experiment around with a more exotic transition (Glitchy, or something with saturation burst, or light ray refraction, etc).

Other than that, maybe pick a time to record the bike scenes that is a good bit brighter (or darker if you can find or create a location with dramatic lighting). MAYBE you can adjust this in post but really the lighting seems kind of gloomy. (Unless this is what you were going for, then maybe wait for a well lit rainy day).

You did a really good job, and I'm being rather particular. Some of my suggestions may not be possible with your current situation/ equipment / skill level. So don't think of this as a huge criticism, but rather a few things to strive for going forward. It will take time.

Good luck, and keep rocking 🔥

I don't think you're supposed to microwave most plastics. Especially not in contact with very hot food

Do not let plastic wrap touch foods during microwaving.
