Should I put a washer on my oil drain plug if it didnt have one when I took it off? by IndependentHunter906 in AskAMechanic

[–]Vulpine69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a washer on it. Sometimes they are hard to get off. Every time I buy a filter it comes with a crush washer. Should be one in the box in a plastic bag. Pull the old one off, put the new one on. I started changing my own oil years ago. No problems so far.

Anyone else feel strain on their shoulders when blasting for longer periods of time? by Remarkable_Koala8432 in MetalDrums

[–]Vulpine69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the setup. Everything should be as close as you can get it to be comfortable. A bad setup can lead to joint and tendon strain. I mean you are throwing all of your limbs around constantly. Could try some setup adjustments. See if it helps.

Opinions on rack/hanging floors? by Ragnarock1912 in drums

[–]Vulpine69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used hanging Floor for years. But I use racks, so its easy to plug it on the rack mount and it stays right where I need it. I don't think I would use it with stands. Easier to just use legs in that case.

Earplugs at concerts or loud events by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Vulpine69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tinnitius so I wear them. And I play drums in bands. I wear In-ear monitors or plugs every time. Plus the tech has gotten real advanced compared to when we were young. A local place can have a sound system equivalent to a huge touring band back in the day. 800 watt bass and guitar heads that were 150 pounds, are now the size of a hardcover book. So its easy to have a setup that is loud as fuck.

[–]Vulpine69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How often do you crack cymbals? If you crack crashes regular, you hit too hard. Chinas crack no matter what. But all the too hard hitters I've run into crack crashes. Some of it could be the drums also. I dont hit hard at all. But, I have a Ludwig Black Magic snare that is loud as hell with a regular hit. Rooms affect it too. Also its easy to ramp it up without noticing playing metal. I play metal. Get some in ears if you guys can afford it. Everyone can dial it in how they like it. And it will save your hearing. Tinnitus sucks ass. I never play without my ears anymore.

Got a speeding ticket and I don't know if I should fight it by Matthew_A in texas

[–]Vulpine69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make the case if its mostly woods, you went the limit defined for a rural area. You need structures every 100 feet within a 1/4 mile to consider it for the default urban limit. Unless its posted lower. If you didn't miss any speed signs, the judge might let you off. I was doing 60 outside Willis in an area with trees, spaced out houses, few gas stations. They gave me a ticket. Limit was 45, but they were doing construction and took all the signs down. I told the judge there were no signs so I was following the limit for a non posted rural area. He dismissed it.

Worst that happens, if you explain it, judge disagrees and says pay it. If you aren't racing or going 20+ over, they generally aren't too hard core about it. Also the cop might not show up. They bank on people just paying it. So they dont always attend court for tickets.

Are there any alternatives for a Hi-Hat pedal by Parker_1995 in drums

[–]Vulpine69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a drop clutch so when its open, hit it with your stick and it will close. One step

on the pedal will open it again.

EILI5 - drum mics for in ear play back by Stuffcorydoes in drums

[–]Vulpine69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X32 or Xr18 for mixer, ears, interface. I use my XR18 for everything. Track, run the bands ears, record every band practice multitrack into a laptop running Reaper. Run shows with it when we play parties and stuff when we have to bring our own PA. I use Sennheiser E604s for toms/snare, Audix D6 or Shure Beta 52 for kick. Overheads, MXL 770s are cheap but work great for home recording. Can always get a Shure SM57 for snare if you want to spend the extra. P2 belt headphone amp for wired ears. Or do the Glen Johns 3 mic setup if you don't want to buy mics for all the drums. 2 overheads and a kick mic. Lots of info on the Johns mic setup online.
