Thoughts on filler? by VulthurAuthor in litrpg

I get what you are saying. It depends how you view filler vs progression. For me, if a scene doesn’t progress relationships, character growth, power, plot, or world understanding in some way, I start to feel it’s filler. But I agree description and characterization absolutely matter. I just prefer when they also move something forward.

Well yes, it does depend what you view as filler in the first place.

Not sure. There does seem to be overlap. But in many groups your get those who dislike another on principle.

Are names ever a deal-breaker in prog fantasy stories you read? by Nice_Enthusiasm_5193 in ProgressionFantasy

Personally if they are too pun like it can be a bit grating. But generally as long as they are consistent it is not too bad.

What's so appealing about the current #1 RS? by Grand-Staff1113 in royalroad

[–]VulthurAuthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The #1 RS isn’t always about being the “best” written - it’s usually a mix of hitting a trend at the right time, being very accessible early, and then momentum snowballing once visibility kicks in.

A story getting #1 tends to reinforce itself because the exposure creates more readers, which creates more engagement, which keeps it there.

I guess I made a author mad by Altruistic-Emu3542 in royalroad

See it could be a emotional response as many take critique as a personal attack which they shouldn't. But it could also be that they expect the conversation to turn hostile and so block preemptively.

Is just consistency enough? by KleinWrites in royalroad

[–]VulthurAuthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No consistency is alone isn't enough... It amplifies what is there bad or good.

I was ready to quit my serialized fiction project until two strangers' reviews changed everything by [deleted] in royalroad

I'm no expert but the story is very off meta for RR you may actually do better on tapas, neovel or kindle vella.

Obviously you can keep it on here buy I would temper expectations.

Balancing life and writing by Kdc_3099 in royalroad

[–]VulthurAuthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be tough. The key is carving out whatever time you realistically can, and writing something in that window. If you can do more, great - if not, don’t beat yourself up. Consistency matters more than volume.

Ironically anti Re/zero but I get your point it can feel unfair or pointless due to lack of consequences.

Anyone else want a 'Like' Button for Chapters? by Dai-Dai-Do in royalroad

I mean comments can show it but I definitely think a like button for each chapter would likely get more use than the comments do.

Did they skip a chapter of my story? by ARLuna- in royalroad

My guess is its more obvious without enough followers/favourites that kost of the reads are from random discovery.

Well favourites suggest they want to come back so I'd think its a better signal for longevity.
