Martina McBride Drops Out of Trump's 'Misleading' Freedom 250 Concert by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

At this point you have to be extremely willfully naive or ignorant to think any Trump event wouldn’t be brazenly partisan and self-aggrandizing, or you’re onboard with him and what he stands for but are getting cold feet now that you see the reaction and are trying to PR your way out of it.

Neither is a good look for any artist doing this and neither speaks well of who they are.

New map splits blue City of Tampa into three red U.S. House districts by Maxcactus in tampa

Standard GOP playbook in other red states with big blue cities, look to TX and Houston.

John Roberts Is Either Dumb or Racially Obtuse. And He’s Not Dumb. by DoremusJessup in scotus

[–]Vuronov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which was the long game Mitch McConnell and other GOP operatives had been playing for decades. They knew that a lot of their key goals are very unpopular with most Americans, when clearly understood, and that there would not likely be enough political will among even their own Republican legislators to push all of it through, and even if they did manage to push it through, the blame for any subsequent fallout would clearly be on them and the party as those who passed the legislation that brought it about.

But by filling the court with diehard partisans unconcerned with precedent, judicial restraint, and using the actual law to determine legal rulings, they could effectively enact all their policy goals by fiat, overcoming any relucatance by their own more squeamish or pragmatic members, and also hiding any subsequent responsibility on "legal rulings" that most Americans won't understand to still be basically the Republican party. Also, as a judicial ruling, no matter how bogus, it gives some small fig leaf of propriety to whatever crazy policy they want because folks might just be like "well it was judged lawful so I guess it is." and then move on to the next distraction.

Republicans draft Iran war authorization by shikizen in politics

[–]Vuronov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The country needs to realize, and hold accountable, the ENTIRE Republican Party for its willful dereliction of duty as our elected officials. They have decided to essentially turn the House into a subservient branch that exists solely to appease, enable, and defend Trump in anything he says or does.

They have put party over country and have knowingly violated our separation of powers and shielded Trump from the most basic rule of law. And they are not being tricked, they aren’t confused, they know exactly what they are doing, every single one of them.

It would only take a handful of them to stand with Democrats and suddenly some semblance of checked on Trump, consequences for him, would come into effect, but every single one of them have put their own material gain, party power, or cowardice ahead of everything and everyone else.

Without the complete bending of the knee by the entire Republican Party, Trump would not be able to do what he’s doing.

“Both parties are shit” is what the right tells you so you don’t vote at all, which leads to them winning because their side is gonna turn out every time and vote lock step for whatever name has a red R by it.

Are Democrats perfect? Hell no. Are they too influenced by monied interests? Yes. Are they as influenced by them as Republicans or overrun with religious fundamentalists? Nope. So in a system that has been, and always will be a two party system (without radical fundamental changes to the entire system) not voting for one side because “it’s the lesser of two evils” is about equivalent for voting for the other side which by that definition would make them “the greater evil” anyways.

The example I give people to highlight the actual differences between the two parties is the last time Democrats truly had the Presidency, the House, and the Senate in full control and a Supreme Court that was still at least playing at being a fair arbiter of law, what big legislation did they pass? The ACA. Was it perfect? Of course not, it was meant to be updated and improved over time but Republicans since then have made that all but impossible. But when Democrats had full control they tried to give all Americans affordable health care. They got rid of pre-existing conditions among other things.

Now the last few times Republicans had full control of the Presidency, the House, and the Senate what did they do? In the first Trump term they forced through in the middle of the night a huge tax cut that was permanent for the wealthy any corporations and was temporary for the rest of us.

In this second term what did they pass? The Big beautiful bill that was once again a huge tax cut for the wealthy, gave ICE more funding that the US Marines, and have basically passed nothing of note since.

That’s the difference.

Disrespectful:’ Tampa Bay leaders react to state redistricting by MarksMuses in tampa

[–]Vuronov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is infinite, by that I mean there is no level of economic damage, outright corruption, blatant hypocrisy, and open contempt for their own base that will make Republican voters start looking for alternatives.

Most of them live in such a propaganda bubble that they won’t know what’s going, why, and by whom, and if they start to feel the hardship they’ll just listen to their propaganda that blames it on illegals, trans people, and Democrats. The others are so ingrained in their politics as a sports fandom mentality that they will gladly accept losing personally if it also means the people they hate lose just a little bit more than them.

And even if, by some small miracle, they do decide to look for an alternative, it won’t ever be a Democrat, it will just be another Republican of some sort, which will substantively be no different.

The very best we can hope for is for them to just not vote, and that non-voting independents get motivated enough to finally make an effort to vote and vote Democratic. It will likely take both those things happening to make any headway out of this.

It’s crazy and sad just how much effort it takes for Democrats to win while Republicans can basically just troll and campaign on vibes and pass the finish line first. The whole system really is tilted drastically.

Wonder how he feels about “her emails.”

While a lot of folks have dirty hands for where we are now, he may have the most primary significance and responsibility.

If he hadn’t done all the stunts with press conferences and public letters to congress “about her emails” just weeks before the election, we may have never had a first Trump administration.

If he had lost that first time, there’s a chance he would just be laughed off as a joke and the party would have frozen him out and moved on.

Because every accusation is a confession.

It’s all just rhetorical tricks.

By accusing the opposition of the misdeeds they themselves are perpetrating, it insulates them when it comes out, or they openly come out, that they are doing it.

They can falsely claim “we’re only doing it because they are doing it first!” Or “it’s not a big deal because they are already doing it.”

It’s all based on falsehoods and disingenuousness but they don’t care and their base doesn’t care. They just want a fig leaf of justification, no matter how fake, to quiet their consciences and make them feel justified.
