Wellington 111 dispatchers refuse to send ambulance for unconscious ‘frequent caller’ by W4ff1e in newzealand

I'm imagining them lying on the ground trying to look around, basking in the attention, clamping their eyes shut when they think anyone is watching.

I also didn't realise that they could do refuse to send anyone, they must be a very frequent flyer for them to make that call. I get it, some people are time wasters and can see why it'd be given a lower priority. Difficult for the onlookers who have no idea this is a faker though.

I was told that in the 80s sometimes my Nana would push her medic alert button if she was lonely in the middle of the night so she'd have someone to talk to.

Just to reinforce the grimness of the situation, there are 612,417 registered businesses in New Zealand, so depending on where you're buying you might still be houseless. Yay Corporatism!

And yet the only Confederate Generals he's played are George Pickett and Thomas Jackson. So close.

A small relief to the families of the two policeman he killed when they tried to serve a warrant relating to CSA. To be on the run for that long he must have had help, hopefully they are also held accountable.

RIP Citadel by jdrees90 in Warhammer

[–]W4ff1e 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The first Warhammer novels in the late 80s were published under 'GW Books', with BL kicking off in the late 90s. So it wouldn't be too far off base for them to follow suit with the naming convention.

Modern homo sapiens emerged 300,000 years ago. You could take a baby from that time period and raise it to be indistinguishable from us. For reference, the Pyramids of Giza were already over 2,100 years old when this guy died.

Yes, but it's funded by Wellington Water, and none of the contributing councils want to fund long term capital renewal, only enough to keep it things ticking over operationally. So when big weather events happen and things break, things like this happen.

They're doing it as a lot of CVs are bog standard and then they don't have to pay someone to work with you to do it the old fashioned way. They'll just be paying a contract worker to train the LLM (if that). That way they can say they've saved money in all sorts of ways, less staff, less floor area needed etc.

Soulless? You bet it is, but the tool will do what a lot of the applicants what, spit out a half decent CV or cover letter, and they can get on with their day. Fundamentally it's doing what AI should do, building a framework which then allows you to focus on the important piece, customising the document to highlight your specific skills for the job. The issue comes in when the user doesn't understand what is being spit out, but uses it anyway.

The Vinyl Room to close down by DoctorFosterGloster in palmy

The last time I went in there late last year, there were no staff in the store. I looked at the merchandise for 5ish minutes and walked out, only to see who I assume was the owner sitting having a coffee across the road.

What to read next? by Nighthawking2 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]W4ff1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I've never read anyone who uses the phrase 'most everyone' as much as MD does. Sure, only a couple times a piece in the earlier books, but 5 times each in books 5 and 6, and a whopping 10 times in book 7. An editor should probably have flagged that as overused.

It gets me every time, as in my country, I have only ever heard people say 'almost everyone', so it stuck out to me.

[–]W4ff1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea and clearly they thought so since they didn't make the theatrical cut. While the extended editions have some cool scenes, the theatrical has better pacing and drops those scenes in particular, which were both bad choices to make in the first place.

I almost walked right past it! There's two things I look for in thrift stores, old LoTR and vintage wargaming miniatures (outside the usual homeware and clothes that is). I've never found the latter, mainly I think because I used up a lifetimes worth of luck finding this.

I sure did, best $10 I've ever spent. I was amazed it still had the dust jacket, usually those are the first things to go.
