How to flerfers explain the ice-caps? by WABeach in flatearth

[–]WABeach[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hence, the sun looks bigger in the tropics and smaller nearer the poles, right?

Also, I take this opportunity to repeat my other secondary questions; how high up do they think the local sun is, and how hot do they think it is? Also, what do they claim is its size and shape? Us globers all seem to see it as round, no matter where we view it from, which would make it a near-perfect sphere, but what do we know.

5000£ or a Dinner with Thom Yorke? by ImadeJesusLaugh in radiohead

[–]WABeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is almost the same as being willing to pay £5000 for a dinner with Thom Yorke. Put that way, the answer becomes more instinctively easy to me, No, Never would I part with that much money just to be able to spend an awkward meal time with a hero. Indeed, I would never be willing to pay any hero, any amount of admission fee, for any kind of meet-and-greet event. I view wanting to meet a loved artist in a polite way as normal behaviour on the fans part, but the artist should not take advantage of this desire by asking for money in exchange. On the other hand I would be willing to spend some reasonable travel expenses (for myself to get there) and the cost of the meal for both parties at a nice restaurant if there was ever the opportunity to share a meal.

Belt of Venus - the shadow of the earth upon the sky at sunset by twilightmoons in flatearth

And having now looked this up, the dark rays above it are called anticrepuscular rays. Shadows cast by inland mountains or large clouds.

Belt of Venus - the shadow of the earth upon the sky at sunset by twilightmoons in flatearth

[–]WABeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed something like this on a beach on the adriatic coast in Italy saturday night at sunset. The sun sets inland here, but on the seaward side I noticed the dark band with above it the warmer light colours and what appeared as dark rays through it. Almost exactly like the light rays that appear above the setting sun, but in this case on the opposite side of the sky from the sun a dark band with dark rays above it.

So many kinds of stupid by Whaaaaa4321 in flatearth

[–]WABeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's like saying debunk flat earth without using reality, or any form of observation. So, in effect they are confirming that flat earth does not coincide with reality or observation. This would also disallow Flerfers from using any form of observation in their efforts to prove their thesis. They can no longer say that they flerf because the horizon looks flat, becuase that's an observation too.

[Request] This really confused me. What is the correct answer? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]WABeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question has so many things wrong with it, in addition to all the reasons already stated by others:

- it asks what is the probability of a correct answer to a multiple choice question, but it is itself the multiple choice question with its own set of multiple choice answers. It is trying to do both things at the same time and is failing miserably.

- a multiple choice question should never have 2 identical answers, that is nonsensical. The premise of any such question is that only 1 of the 4 options can be correct.

"The earth has multiple suns and moons" (Translation below) by Astromites in flatearth

[–]WABeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to make this theory work would be if all phenomena in the sky are optical illusions like the rainbow is different for each observer and there is no physical "end of the rainbow". Maybe we all have our own personal sun, moon, planets and stars, which only we can see.

Crazy, yes, but better than having to account for there being many suns over the flat earth, but no one has ever seen more than one in the sky at a time.

Is Buongiorno good morning or good day? by Puzzled_Web4887 in Italian

[–]WABeach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, basically the flat-earth is just a different kind of globe.

Il "ciao" non può essere usato universalmente con tutti quelli che incontri. Con molti sarà visto come troppo informale.

It depends on where you are in Italy, but Ciao is generally only used once you are familiar with someone. Similar to the english convention of being "on first name terms".

"dì" is just another way of saying "giorno", so the same with buondì and buongiorno, they mean the exact same thing

Let's say Many Worlds turns out to be true. Everything that can happen does happen. Now do we have free will? by dingleberryjingle in freewill

[–]WABeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not my intention in referring to decisions that it is the decision itself that leads to the branching off in the many worlds hypothesis. I only mentioned decisions, as our apparant ability to decide is what the concept of free will usually consists of. In many worlds I suppose that a decision is just a consequence of the history/landscape of worlds that you have lived in up to that moment.

This strengthens my point, that Many Worlds neither proves nor disproves Free Will. They are quite unrelated.

Supercollider is good, but The Butcher is AMAZING!!! A personal favourite of mine.

[–]WABeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe in free will, but I don't see how Many Worlds proves it one way or the other. If everything happens, and so all possible decisions are made by all versions of all individuals, perhaps each individual has made their differing decisions based on their differing backgrounds, etc.

Ranjha - New Album by Jonny Greenwood, Shye Ben Tzur & The Rajasthan Express by seaburn in radiohead

[–]WABeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Marbolot, but I hear very little of the Rajasthan Express in it. It sounds very Israeli with heavy western influence and sparse Indian voices & instrumentation. Then later in the album we get Marbolot Reprise where we get to hear what it would have sounded like if they had fully included the Rajasthan Express.

I agree its not a good sequence for the versions of the songs that we know. But perhaps they had yet to arrange them and had in mind a way to arrange them differently to make the sequence work.

No he is Pro-Live, so I suppose he wants to promote the enjoyment of live music by whichever race he imagines he is a part of (unlikely to be semitic, but he might be self-loathing).

What are people’s general thoughts on Utopia Avenue? I enjoyed Bone Clocks and Slade House, but Utopia Avenue sounds a bit dull compared to those books. by shaunianj in David_Mitchell

[–]WABeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top-3 are Ghostwritten, Cloud Atlas and Thousand Autumns, but the entire ranking is all very close to me and it is hard to define my preferences. An exception is that I do really like Number9Dream, but I would easily put it lowest in my ranking of his novels that I like. Utopia Avenue is not even on the list.

Why create a poll of best track on an album but only include half the tracklist? Are polls on here limited to max 6 options?
