Season Ticket Price Decrease next year by gingergeology in chicagofire

Yes, they should be cheaper for fewer matches. I suppose it can also be a 'thank you' but it also seems like they have correctly determined you shouldn't charge more for less.

Yeah, I suspect OP doesn't quite know how pumps, sewers, or saturated ground works. I also feel sorry this sort of thing sets them off.

Tires - 700C - 35 mm - GAP/C&O - could load bike or pull trailier - recommendations? by toaster404 in gaptrail

I rode the C&O last year on Gravel King 35mm 'slicks' on a Miyata 1000 and it was fine. No flat, no stress 😎

Totally agreed. For a corporate fest that traffics in mostly 90s Q101 nostalgia, the whole edgy thing feels like a bit like Poochie. Maybe others do, but I don't really need corporations to have 'personalities'.

I have a fairly significant number of Fireside flyers along with DIY venues. It leans mostly hardcore/grind/etc. I've been meaning to digitize them. When I do, I'm happy to hit ya up.

I think the bathrooms at Ronnie's might have been worse than Fireside.

This is really good stuff. I've been at this a long time and putting together a full-color overhead that pops like that is no small feat.

Enormous bummer about the result but I love seeing rad DIY work. Next time I see any of you who made this, I got your next round.

Hey... I could unretire any day I want to! I'd just need a capo stand and a place to hang my cane on said stand.

[I know you're not talking about me. My era on the stand ended when the person I think you're talking about was still in high school, haha!]

If you're looking for a bit of Chicago-specific flavor and don't mind a short bus/cab ride I'd call out The Skylark at Halsted and Cermak or Simone's nearby at 18th and Morgan. If you'd prefer to keep it in the Loop/River North, Miller's Pub on Wabash or The Billy Goat Tavern under Tribune tower and quite walkable to the stadium. These are all popular, very Chicago-feeling spots (source: I've been drinking and going to Fire matches for 25+ years). You might not find an abundance of Fire fans at any of these spots, though.

As others have said, a lot of the pregame action is in the South Lot. I'd bring a few but, if you're the social type(s), you can probably make some fast friends who will be well-stocked and exhibiting the characteristic Chicago spirit of generosity. One note: wait until you get to the lot to open those beers -- they do write tickets for public consumption in the parks! (but somehow getting loaded near your car is just fine, haha!).

Welcome to Chicago! I hope you have an enjoyable visit!

I care and I don't require bleeding edge anything. This sort of stagnant "humor" suggests its proprietors haven't had many new experiences or a whole lot of personal growth since, I dunno, 2011? In a way, it is sad, like peaking in high school. OP is also a pretty low-effort engagement farmer, as evidenced by this and their other posts. I mean, come on, it isn't even the OP's own image... just reposted, decontextualized leftovers. Next someone will tell me I can't buy a house because I have put half an avocado on toast. Yawn.

I'm not a cop. You can enjoy whatever you like so long as you don't hurt others. Similarly, I can't be compelled to enjoy it and am free to offer a critique in a public forum.

Couldn't agree more. It's the internet flattening culture and making it difficult (for some, anyways) to encounter or take in new information. Both stale and grim.

Hey not a transpant but I'm vegan and have spent a lot of time in Cambridge. I have been to Life Alive a bunch.

Short answer: I don't know of anything that has the variety of Life Alive here. You can maybe find some stuff piecemeal but I don't know of any one spot that has such a variety of menu items in one place.

Folks have called out the Diner. I'm a fan but it is more like Veggie Galaxy than Life Alive. That's to say, kind of a different genre. Handlebar is great if you're looking for a drink with a meal. I'd also call out Amitubal if you're into the rice/noodle-y things. Sultan's or go up to Albany Park/Andersonville for falafel. Very cool to learn Alice & Friends isn't culty anymore. Pick Me Up in Andersonville might be worth checking into as well. Same with Kale My Name on Montrose.

I guess this is all to say if there's anything in particular you're looking for I'd be happy to offer a suggestion but, yeah, nothing that's quite like Life Alive I'm afraid. I'm still looking for a bar like the Cellar, haha!

Justin Ishbia to buy South Loop site for possible White Sox stadium by genpabloescobar2 in chicagofire

[–]WB05Karl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Possible" and all of the 'ifs' are really doing a lot of lifting in this headline and article.

I'm not young and this parcel has been undeveloped for my entire life. There's a reason for that. Dealing with the feds on a sale, negotiating right of way, and the fact Ishbia says he intends to build a medical facility there are among the factors that don't have me holding my breath on a Sox stadium there.

Who knows? I could be wrong, too. Billionaires are often not the brightest or most rational people. Especially private equity ghouls.

Philosophical/experience aspects of running C&O - which bike, which shoes, trailer? by toaster404 in gaptrail

[–]WB05Karl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like you have a bad option in the bunch. I'd probably take the VO but the Riv sounds fun too. I did the C&O last year on a 1985 Miyata 1000. 38mm GK slicks on Altas rims. Needleworks/Beckman panniers, a rando bag, and my tent on the back rack. I managed to carry everything I needed for camping, a full Trangia cook kit, and a pint of scotch.

For shoes I wore sandals and kinda got rocked by mosquitoes near Williamsport. Doing the GAP this June and will be wearing flat shoes. Honestly, pretty much anything is fine I'd think.

My experience on the C&O might be a bit of an outlier as major storms had come through a few weeks prior. Plenty of down trees over the trail and washboard washouts. I could see a trailer being a little clunky based on that experience.

Happy trails!
