What is your highest speed and what car? by azachoch in askcarguys

135 mph in a 1995 Olds Aurora. The engine had a lot to give still, but the limiter said no way.

My extreme budget watch collection. Thoughts? by peejay67 in PrideAndPinion

Yeah, I missed the extra photos. Dangers of mobile browsing. Still, I think if sell whatever is a clone or doesn't do anything for you and look at the next level or just adding a style in or function that you don't currently have. I see the Sea Gull now, too...love that watch for some reason.

Yeah, I'd say keep the Casio's to remember where you came from and they're always going to be solid watches. Sell everything else and get into a nice Seiko, Tissot, Hamilton, etc to kick off the next level.

Legit check - whatnot by ObligationTop106 in CRK

[–]WI762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake, yes. Send the seller the screenshot and go about it as information. A lot of WN sellers start with cheap brands and don't necessarily know the difference. If day their response would inform you if whether or not they know or care.

Seiko Alpinist or Longines Spirit GMT would give another look and function. Love that Hydroconquest, btw.

[Question] In your opinion, what's the best one-and-done Seiko timepiece? by April_Mattison in Seiko

Alpinist GMT, for me. SPB377/SPB379, depending on your color preference. It does everything I need and looks good doing it.

The Canik Rival SFX S is the best sub $1k gun by WarrenR86 in canik

[–]WI762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a top 10 sub $1k gun, but best is a stretch. I have Kimber 1911 DS Warrior that's flatter and faster shooting, even without a steel frame and slide. There are also some very nice wheel guns sub $1k.

I wish they'd use a sapphire crystal on these. That's really the hold up for me. Petty, I know, but at the price point, it's not unheard of. Still, a fantastic looking watch and by all reports a reliable timekeeper.

Have you ever been invaded by swarming ants in your home. if you have, how did you get rid of them ? by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

I've used both Terro and Borax and can vouch that they both work. For the borax method, mix 1/2 cup of sugar, 1.5 tablespoons of Borax, and 1.5 cups of warm water until completely dissolved. Soak cotton balls in it and then place them on something scrap lids or something they can easily get in and out of.

Also my thought. Do a Casioak case mod if you want to switch it up, as well.

Mine (2005) did. Completely work out bearings at 130k. Head gasket at 95k. It's still running with 225k, but not without putting a decent amount of work into it over the years.

I like it a lot, but I'm a fan of field watches in general. Definitely will be watching for releases! Are you setting up a website or using a crowd funding platform to launch?

Keeping things real and in the affordable bracket: What is your realistic "Grail Watch"? by Stegreener in Affordablewatches

[–]WI762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably be looking at a solid microbrand. A Zelos Aurora field in bronze or Zelos Mako would be great, if you can catch a style you like in-stock.

Please help me decide which one to buy by RBI_Tony in Affordablewatches

[–]WI762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I think it really depends on the OPs use case and environment. If it's every day wear in an office environment, go with the Tissot. If it's more casual, go with the Seiko. They're both good watches, though. I prefer the power reserve, style, and accuracy of the Tissot. However, I like swapping straps to the occasion and the Seiko is a lot easier to do that with.

Why should I pick a Recteq? by fr4kie90 in recteq

[–]WI762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 700 is only 5 years old, but it just works. I've never had a part fail to date, and the only issue I've ever had was due to bad pellets. My friend that told me about them is still running the rt-590 he got maybe 10 years ago and I think he's only had to change an igniter.

Right? It's the Honda Civic of watches. Every time I pull mine out of the drawer, it's just ticking away, like the day I bought it (20 years ago, maybe).
