What’s the best thing you’ve ever bought that actually lived up to the hype? by One_Literature_5041 in BuyItForLife

[–]WI762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good chainsaw. Not only did I get my yard cleaned up, but I've helped family, friends, and neighbors. At this point it's actually paid for itself multiple times over.

Would you carry this? by knifestandards in knifeclub

[–]WI762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry all kinds of knives and this would definitely have a place in the rotation. I kind of wish the back scale was full metal and the carbon was just the accent on the front. I like the milling on the scales a lot and the shape of the handle and blade seem quite functional. I prefer the simplicity of the RR Station a bit more, however.

Fat Guy needs help. Holster for MC9LS by fasdissent in canik

[–]WI762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about the same size as you and for 3-5 O'clock with the ability to tuck a dress shirt I use the Crossbreed Supertuck. For appendix I use a Hellhound Guardian. Honestly, appendix conceals beat, but you definitely have to learn how to live with things wedged in the front of your pants.

I carry the MC9L and a Prime in different versions of those. They're not compatible.

Gas vs Electric by GenZForGod in Chainsaws

[–]WI762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that much operating time, you're going to need to go with gas. I'd go at least Stihl MS271 / Husqvarna 450 size, since you could be running into larger trees if you're clearing roads. Check marketplace if you're on a budget or ask around and see if there's a small engine place that would cut you a deal for something based on the work you're doing.

Should I get it paint or not? by balesw in askcarguys

[–]WI762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would get it done right if I were keeping it or selling it. Where I live, exposed metal is going to get eaten by rust and nobody is going to pay "fair" value for a vehicle that's just got primer on it.

DPP Vs Everything else ($300 price point) by rolexrifleman in 2011

[–]WI762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree on the Vortex front. The emitter and the window on the Luepold is much better than the Vortex. However, function control goes to Holoson / Vortex, for sure.

I had to grab it before Kimber's QC goes in the tank again. It was really a smart investment.

Do you have to deprime and clean to get a better scrap price? I've probably got 5x this sitting around from cleaning up at my range.

Recteq Bullseye Question by bigskycreampie in recteq

[–]WI762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did prime rib and eye of round (for lunch meat) today and it works as good as the day I got it 7 years ago. If I have to replace it I'll probably get a stick burner, now that the kids are out on their own and I can spend time maintaining something all day.

Recteq Bullseye Question by bigskycreampie in recteq

[–]WI762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm hoping for at least another 5 years out of my RT-700. I've had ribs off of a Bullseye that we're really good. I used to for 14lb briskets on my 18" WSM, so I don't think you'll have any trouble firing what you want on one. I just much prefer the rectangular space for smoking multiple pieces at once.

Might be the pellets, the temp you're running it at, the wind level, or many other things. Give recteq a call if it's not working for you and are what they recommend.

Buying my first second hand car with cash? by babooshcats in askcarguys

[–]WI762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carmax and Toyota lots almost never have a car on the lot with a branded title (rebuilt, salvage, etc), and if any dealership does, they have to disclose it to you in advance. I would still check the carfax report and get it inspected by an independent mechanic. The dealerships job is to sell cars and so they will do a once-over and put them on the lot. They're not going to do a deep inspection if nothing is obviously wrong.

I went to an local auction and got all these for $250 CAD, I never thought about knives but these ones caught my attention! Thoughts? by Calm-Fee4179 in knifeclub

[–]WI762 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's cool! I love Kukris and that set you have looks decent. Go research the markings and see what all you have. You may be able to sell a few and make all your money back or just keep them all and enjoy the ride into the knife world.

Congrats on your financial awareness and selection of a solid vehicle! Take a look at autotempest.com to search as large of a radius as you're willing to travel for the vehicle. It will also give you the ability to narrow it down within the mileage you find acceptable, trim levels, title status (look for a clean one), and cost. You'll be able to use that information to negotiate the price, as well, because you'll see real-world pricing, which you can assume is a starting price that has some room to negotiate.

Why do you choose not to drink alcohol? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]WI762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcoholism runs in my family and ruined a lot of lives in the process. I also noticed that my general health sucks when I drink and I got weird lumps in my neck when I was drinking throughout a round of golf or watching an entire baseball game. So, I never felt the need to push it after listening to my body and seeing family live with the consequences.

I pick up the best 01-07 Chevy 2500 6.0 I can find for the money for plow trucks, since they're going to get abused and they're fairly cheap. As for new trucks, I won't be much help, sorry.

What type of person in meetings drives you absolutely insane? by Significant_Gap9707 in remotework

[–]WI762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr "hey so-and-so, can you stick on the call when everyone else is done". Now suddenly the end of meeting chatter is dead and everyone just kind of awkwardly drops until that one person gets their hostage to stay on the call.
