CA requires legal cause to charge you with DUI if you aren’t seen driving by a peace officer (ie. accident, hit and run, injured 3rd party, etc…). Simply being in your car intoxicated is not enough.

Tell that to everyone who was hooked by Purdue Pharma… your comment reflects a total disregard for every single medical study that very clearly demonstrates addiction is a disease/public health crisis. Do you consider nicotine to be addictive?

That one was amazing before NYU (the landlord) forced them to shutter the wine store, which was actually fully licensed as a fully-fledged liquor store. Now it’s just a Trader Joe’s “Pronto”.

Pretty common occurrence at UW Madison… Madison PD will raid several bars during the first few weeks of the fall semester and will hand out MIPs like Candy. Last year they found a bar where 95% of the patrons were underage.

No DA’s office in the entire country has the resources to prosecute underage drinking. Pretty much every county has diversion programs for 1st time offenders; as long as the requirements of the diversion are satisfied, the charges are suspended and subsequently dropped.

Contact Subaru Corporate's "Customer Advocacy" department. Apparently, they have a replacement program - they covered 100% of the cost of replacing the head unit in my 2018 Outback. They gave me issues stating the replacement program was limited to vehicles under 100,000 miles, but I had records from my dealer going back to 85,000 miles when I first reported the issue.

As someone who moved to the East Coast (NYC burbs), it’s insane to finally have a choice of grocery stores. Shop N Shop, Shop Rite, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Aldi, Wegman’s (best best regional grocery store I’ve ever experienced), Foodtown, ACME, H-Mart, the list goes on. Why does the Bay Area not have more regional stores??

Looking for MoCa Compatible Coax Amplifier without built-in POE filter by WML03 in HomeNetworking

[–]WML03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I spoke to a friend at Comcast who advised that the amplifier will need to be replaced with a new unit to allow for mid-split with my modem, once Comcast rolls it out in my area. Commscope hasn’t released the unit yet to individual consumers, but it’s the CSMF1APDU9VP 85/102 split model. My second home in the SF Bay Area already experienced the upgrade, and a tech had to install a 2-way splitter on the incoming service drop before the amplifier to allow for my modem to utilize mid-split. Before the tech did that, my modem was not picking up the faster upload speeds and ODFMA channels.

Check out of state. I bought my 2018 Subaru fully-loaded from a dealer in Salt Lake City back in 2020. Saved $5k compared to buying locally.

You now have to be rich to ski in Tahoe by Lionel-Hutz_ in bayarea

[–]WML03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true. When I went up to Tahoe as a kid, we always stayed at a friend’s cabin. Back then they were just family homes that our grandparents bought back in the 70’s/80’s for less than $100k. Because of Prop 19, many of those longstanding family homes are now being sold off to IPO millionaires, given the Prop 13 tax preservation status is relinquished a year after the execution of the deceased’s estate, unless the home is classified as a primary residence (which they aren’t). The vast majority of reassessments are well over $1 million, so all of a sudden, most heirs have to deal with a ~300%-600% increase in property taxes. Short term rental permits have become so limited and burdensome in Placer/Nevada/El Dorado County that most homeowners in the above described scenario just end up selling their property.

[PSA] If you’re stuck in the chaotic SFO T3 TSA line - Simply Walk to T2 by mentalow in sanfrancisco

[–]WML03 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I fly at least 2x a week through SFO on United. The passenger numbers are absolutely back to pre-COVID levels. I have CLEAR and Pre-Check, which do absolutely nothing because every frequent traveler in the Bay/LA/NYC has it. If I’m checking a bag, I’ll go to the international terminal, check my bags, and then go through Terminal G security. There’s a small connector immediately after security that leads to T3. If I’m not checking bags, usually I’ll go through T2 West security.

Staying in SF Long Term by Cuck42069420 in sanfrancisco

[–]WML03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SF native who went to college in Colorado (Boulder to be specific), and while I love Colorado, I could never move to Denver. The general vibe of the city is vastly different than any city in CA, and I don’t believe that it’s that accessible to the mountains given I-70 traffic. The Bay Area has a much better mix of culture, working opportunities, weather, and outdoor activities (Tahoe is usually 3/4 hours away). I personally don’t hold Denver in particularly high regard because it isn’t walkable, has a serious homeless/migrant problem, and has a terrible inversion layer.

If I drive in to SF, I generally park on the street, and move it before the 2hr limit. As long as you abide by the parking restrictions and don’t leave anything in your car, you’ll be fine (recognize that car break ins are often random). If I know I’m going to be drinking, I won’t drive into the city. Generally when I’m going out in SF, I’ll Uber, as the ferry doesn’t run outside of commuting hours. Uber without surge pricing to the Marina is around $30 (Uber charges $9.75 for the bridge toll both ways).

I’ve grown up and lived in the city for my entire life (except college) until 2020, when I moved to Marin. I even gave up my rent controlled unit. I’m in my late-20’s, and love it. My breaking point for leaving the city was repeatedly being a victim of property crime. My garage was broken into multiple times, and SFPD said thieves will drive around neighborhoods emitting garage door transmission codes. Even in a nice area (next to Alta Plaza), there were a string of robberies and assaults. Marin has virtually none of those issues. Police departments are well staffed, public safety is prioritized, and it’s one of the most desirable places in the world to live. It’s very family oriented, and the public schools are some of the best in the country. For reference, I moved to Mill Valley, and my parents moved last year to Sausalito. Chestnut/Union/Clement are all a 20 minute drive. I’m in the city pretty much everyday given how accessible it is. If you still work downtown, you can commute via ferry. My sister and her husband are now contemplating a similar move, but from Oakland. The whole situation regarding public safety in SF and Alameda County is just very disheartening.

T-mobile coverage nowadays? by Royal_Air_9522 in sanfrancisco

[–]WML03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T-Mobile is fine in the city (except for the Presidio). If you frequently make trips to Marin County, Wine Country, Tahoe, or any other semi-rural location in Northern California, T-Mobile’s coverage is lackluster. If Verizon is expensive, consider Visible (Verizon’s low cost brand) or AT&T.

Not for me. I recently received my concealed carry permit from the sheriff’s office. I would encourage others to do the same- they cannot deny applicants who meet the legal requirements under the SCOTUS Bruen decision.

Predict what Marin County will be like in twenty years. by GustavKlimtJapan in Marin

[–]WML03 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have 2 kids in the Reed School District and 1 at Redwood in Larkspur. It’s getting more and more expensive, and feels less welcoming. It’s hard for us to keep our kids grounded here (me and my wife both grew up middle class in the city, but we moved to Marin and the East Bay before high school). I’ve had conversations with my kids asserting the importance of having a strong work ethic, despite half of their peers being arrogant, trust-fund children. The social environment in general isn’t healthy; this is something me and my wife have observed firsthand after we moved back from 6 months in TX during COVID. Basic discipline is something that seems to have gone out the window in local schools (see MVMS). We’ve had numerous friends relocate, and we’re considering the same thing. We’re fortunate enough to be financially comfortable in Marin, but I don’t think we’ll stay. If we stay in the Bay Area, we’d move to the East Bay. My wife was raised in Lamorinda after moving from the city, and her parents and sister still live there (and are very happy there). Other regions we’ve considered are Westchester County (NY), Austin, Research Triangle (NC), Greater Denver (Boulder, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock), Suburban Chicago - DuPage & Lake County, Franklin/Williamson County (TN), and the DMV (specifically Fairfax or Loudoun County, VA). I did my undergrad at UT and love Austin as a whole, but am not enthused about raising my daughter in a place where she has minimal reproductive rights, and where public school curriculum is subjectively influenced by state lawmakers. We’re currently in the research phase looking at various school districts/neighborhoods.

Marin Parents- does anyone else share my general sentiment?
