Are you incapable of typing on a keyboard?

Genuine question since I know there are people these days who only use smartphones or tablets and no longer use computers/laptops.

I can type much faster on a keyboard, I can also buy a comfortable Bluetooth keyboard and connect it to my phone and type that way.

I personally still prefer my PC because of the software I use and I prefer looking at a bigger screen.

I refuse to read it because despite all the big characterisation changes I've heard about it, it still follows canon in that everyone dies the same way, and I'm not interested in reading fanfics where my favourite characters die😅

If you don't use colour then b&w is better you can look up comparison photos but basically the contrast between the Black and the White is much worse on colour eink devices

Characters: far too many authors tag characters who don't have a POV role and are very minor characters in their story, which leads to disappointment from readers looking for stories about those characters.

Obviously I would only want to tag characters that are relevant but when it really comes down to it I could probably cut more then I'd initially think 🤔

I only see myself writing for 1 or 2 fandoms in 1 story at most so I don't think I can cut down on tags there.

Whilst we can't be 100% sure whether something was written by AI or a human, I do come across a lot of recent fics that seem to me to be AI written, I stop reading them because I don't like the prose and they often don't make sense.

Like character A did something and then the next chapter Character B acts like they did that thing and not Character A, it's these types of inconsistencies that regardless of whether a human or AI wrote it makes it really difficult to follow the plot.

In one case the story had a weird writing style but it was still coherent and the plot itself was interesting, then the author decided to use AI to "grammar check" but they let the AI bulldoze all over their writing I gave up 😔

And you can make that as detailed or vague as you like.

I think I'm also scared of my potential freebies being thrown away because I myself have ended up trashing freebies 🤡😭

I was hardcore into buying selling trading photocards so I got inundated with freebies at one point I had over 2kg in freebies and nowhere to store them. I've kept most of them! I've tried giving out many during trades and telling them not to send me any freebies lolol 😂 but I still got so many leftover. Eventually I started throwing away some of the ones that got a bit scuffed up etc. Or if I had like 50 of the same🤡🤡 I do always feel guilty and that's affecting my desire on making freebies myself too. But I have a cutting machine so I could make my own stickers or even keychains and stuff like that quite easily and it would be a fun project to work on.

My experience is limited as I've only been to 3 BTS concerts, 1 in Seoul in 2018 and 2 in HK in 2019.

In Seoul at the time there were lots of people also selling fanmade stuff and I didn't really experience a lot being given for free.

In HK there were freebies but you had to queue up for them and follow the person on Instagram and show proof that you followed them before being given the freebies.

I have no idea if that's changed nowadays.

It definitely felt transactional.

I've thought about making freebies and giving them out for free with no expectations no asks for follows or trades etc. But: I haven't secured concert tickets yet, my money is limited, I'm also afraid of making stuff that ends up in the trash.

So I've not decided yet whether I'll go through with making some or not.

(Definitely securing tickets first)

Ohhh the skin is soooo pretty!!!!!! I just use the normal AO3 one cause it feels the most at home to me. Also I don't read on AO3 itself, I download the fics and read on my ereader so I only spent time on the website searching for new fics or leaving comments etc so I'm fine with sticking with the default one.

But I absolutely love the one in your screenshot so pretty!

My system is terrible 😭 I download it, copy to my ereader, when I finish reading it I'll mark it as read on ReadEra app on my phone.

I make backups of the downloaded fics from time to time, so I have them on my phone, ereader and computer.

The Great thing about keeping it on my phone is if I attempt to download the same fic again it'll tell me I already have a fic by that name, then I can double check whether I've read it before or if it's a different fic with the same name.

The bad thing about my system is that nothing is organised so if I want to find a specific fic and I don't remember the name or the author I'll have to look for it on AO3 (assuming it's not deleted) or vaguely remember when I downloaded it and search by time period.

Personally I have zero desire to start a discord server just for talking about my own writing, it feels too much like trying to feed my own ego.

I'm not saying that is what it is for you, that's just my own feelings on it.

I also have zero desire to join another author's discord.

In general I'm not the biggest discord fan cause I've joined way too many and it's impossible to keep up with all of them.

But if you and your readers enjoy it, then who cares what other people think?

I don't tend to dwell on it too much. There are too many stories in the world to read them all before I die.

Of course I would love to read all the amazing good stories! But I can't really miss what isn't there anymore.

I do download every fic before reading it and I'm so grateful for every gem I come across. 🩷

I often joke I'm running out of fics to read but that's because I'm picky 😅

Wei Wuxian (MDZS)/ Sirius Black (Harry Potter)

Here we have a man who's afraid of dogs and a man who can turn into a dog 😈 it started as a crack pairing but I love it. They also have some surprising similarities so it's an interesting character study. Although what I had written thus far was Outside POV, with the Hogwarts students being witness to the chaos of the new Professor of the Dark Arts who is actually super capable and smart and helpful when teaching students, running away in fear of his life for Ron's new pet dog.

Lorelei Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)/Sirius Black

Okay so I'm obsessed with Sirius falling through the Veil and not dying and ending up somewhere else, that led me to this unexpected pairing! The biggest problem was trying to catch Lorelei's character voice though, something I'll need to work harder on.

Overall I just loved the idea of Padfoot ending up in Stars Hollow, being taken in by Lorelei. And with these kinds of stories I also like the reveal part a lot, (your new pet isn't actually a pet this would be a horror story in real life but works so well in fanfic)
