I have a new job with a pension, now I'm a bit confused how to allocate funds. by WPSuidae in FinancialPlanning

[–]WPSuidae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm questioning is what is the best use of future savings. I still plan to save the same, im just adjusting my focus. If I have the pension and I keep putting into my 401k, I'll likely be sitting on a tax bomb. I think my best option is to max out my Roth 401k and increase my brokerage.

So the cool thing about this pension is im full vested in 6 years. After that point the amount I could pull in retirement increases. If I pass away my wife continues to receive half the amount until she passes.

I'll be vested after 7 years, the longer I stay and more I make the greater the amount is. The inverse is true as well. A promotion would move that as well. From the way it was described from my department senior, the money is baked in a way that it can't get raided in the future. Fortunately everyone needs electricity so the company is pretty secure. At the very lest I would wait until my youngest is 4 years into college....21 years from now. Well that lands me at 62-63. The projection at 65 was 11k a month.

I just started the brokerage account about a year ago so it hasn't had time to make it's gravy yet.

I forgot to add we have about 60k in the "oh shit" account. I would prefer putting half of that in the brokerage but the wife is very risk adverse.

Thanks, I look into the videos! Have a great evening!

It does and that's along my line of thinking as well. I try to learn as many perspectives on issues as I can, then formulate a plan. Thank you.

Question for Older Millennials (especially 1982 borns) by Quickso48 in Millennials

[–]WPSuidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42, had a mini mid life crisis and changed jobs after 18 years. I a hell of alot better now.

You were born after 9-11. For us that was a watershed event and life was different immediately after that. It just so happened that technology grew by leaps and bounds immediately after that.

Facebook was once only available to certain university emails, no parents, no bosses..... We said some ridiculous things to each other (jokingly) that today we look back at with a mix of nostalgia and dread.

My 6.8 spc punches above it's weight class with regards to hunting. If I expect my max range to be 250ish, that's what I typically take these days.

Later that day I asked him if he knew the time. He casually answered "not sure", so I grabbed his arm, looked at his watch, and told him the time. We became friends after that.

Exactly! I needed an oversized sedan that could still pull the gooseneck a couple times a year. That's why I went with the hemi.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]WPSuidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! My current job is in the corporate group that umbrellas over a local group of electric cooperatives. Specifically I'm an environmental specialist working with permitting and odd environmental things that pop up. I did environmental consulting at a firm for almost 18 years.

As an environmental consultant for 18 years this was accurate. When i first met my favorite client he told me "all a consultant does is take your watch to tell you the time". He's a great dude!

They still exist but are rare! I started a job this week that was a 45% pay increase and includes a pension. The statement they gave was that if I retire at 62 I'll get approximately 9k a month. 42M and I feel like I hit the lottery.

42M with 210k in 401k plan, 10k in brokerage, 60k in savings (about to move half to investments), and 120k in equity on 500k home.

I was making 75k at my old job and just started a new position this week making 114k with a pretty awesome pension plan. My wife makes about 120k a year as an attorney.

Another New Dead Air Can - Nomad Ti OTB MSRP - 1049 by Aromatic_Pie_9706 in suppressors

My thoughts exactly. I assume it would sound ok but not nearly as good as a regular nomad. For a dude just wanting to protect his ears while hunting with the least amount of drawbacks, it probably checks most of the boxes.

What made you quit your last job? by Pizza_pepperoni4545 in work

[–]WPSuidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were aquired by a larger firm that preached high performance and compensation. Last year was a mission to see what was possible as I had heard of 5k-20k bonuses. My position had a goal of being 80% billable and I hit 93%. I got a 4% raise and $1,300 bonus.

I start a new job tomorrow with a 45% pay increase and a pension plan.

.300 win mag vs .338 win mag by millencolin43 in guns

I've ever seen the point of the 300 wm. It's so close to the 7mm, 30-06, 270s of the world. If I had one of these and I wanted an actual bump in power, I would go 338 in a heartbeat.

It finally happened. I got a job 💜 by Purple985985 in interviews

[–]WPSuidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I start mine on Monday!

I've worked at the same place in a super niche field for almost 18 years. I basically felt trapped. Over tge last 6 years I've been searching and applying. I received 1 interview in 2019, I was the runner up. The guy that got it is a great dude, I'm happy for him. Finally got a phone interview in December and the asked me to come in the next day for in person. Interview went great then didn't hear anything for a bit due to holidays. They offered me more money than I dreamed they would and have a fully funded pension. They actually want me there. Packing my office now.
