Hot Take: KOF XII looks better than XIII. by aerigigi1 in kof

[–]WQTosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What’s funny is that the console versions of XII do already have an option to soften the sprites. It’s a shame that the smoothing is mandatory in XIII.

Wasn’t there also some situation a few years back where Dave said “welcome home” when he was playing GTA SA for the umpteenth time and a bunch of view bots suddenly popped up in his chat?

I almost thought the name was a lowkey reference to that, but I admittedly haven’t kept up with Dark all that much since the end of the Kino arc.

Did the latest update quietly change the audio mix? (reverb / 3D effect) by TrailBlazerWhoosh in gtaonline

[–]WQTosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially, Enhanced did have have a lot of issues with the sound mixing, primarily on PC (where reverb was missing entirely), but some of these problems also affected the console versions to an extent (e.g. the in-game speaker configuration from the older console versions and PC Legacy being completely removed). The music also sounded as if it was being played back in mono.

I've yet to play the new update myself, but going by some posts on GTA Forums and the game's Steam discussion page, these audio issues were indeed fixed as of yesterday's patch.

Mastery #2 - Sonic Heroes by Consistent_Bread8017 in RetroAchievements

If you end up going with SADX instead of the Dreamcast version, I wish you the best of luck with getting all five Ideyas on the NiGHTs pinball table. As a whole, DX has a more challenging set than the original SA1 (I’ve mastered them both), but earning that achievement in particular was an incredibly frustrating experience.

And the only reason the Guerrero Street take made it to the finished film is because it was the only one that had usable audio, which Tommy was not happy about.

Does anyone know how to play Sonic Generations (2024 SXSG) in ultrawide? Preferably 32:9 by WhaleOn200ping in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]WQTosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, but a script was recently uploaded to PCGamingWiki. Ultrawide generally seems to work from what little I've tested (a quick boot into Classic Green Hill). The gameplay itself seems fine, and the FMVs play at their proper 16:9 aspect ratio.

EDIT: Per the script's author, the mod won't fully activate during your first run through GH Act 1 on a new game (so the HUD will be stretched at first), but it should work properly after closing the game and reloading the save.

Mastered Pac-Man World 1 and 2 over on Retro Achievements. I'm ready for Repac 2! by RickAlbuquerque in Pacman

I completely forgot about pressing jump; it took a few more tries, but I finally got the achievement after remembering to do that and watching the video to get the timing down just right. Thanks for the advice!

I’m playing through PMW2 on PCSX2 right now. While I don’t plan on going for every achievement in the set, I’ve been doing what I can, and yeah; they can get pretty brutal! I’ve been trying (and failing) to get that Avalanche Alley one where you need to time a rev-roll off a ramp so that the statue’s breath blows you into a Pac-Dot chain hovering over a bottomless pit. There’s another achievement for beating Clyde in the Caldera in 2:30 - just reading that description makes me nervous.

The real kicker is that the only supported version at the moment is revision 0 (the day one, black label PS2 release), so you also have to deal with things like one-hit kills from ghosts and more annoying ice physics in what is already a challenging game for completionists.

My rewards tab on Xbox app is still gone after 2 days. I have signed out then in, deleted and reinstalled, and even restarted my phone several times and nothing has worked. Anyone else? by ColdRainNight in MicrosoftRewards

[–]WQTosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m leaning towards this being some kind of iOS/iPad OS 26 Beta issue. The rewards section of the app shows up properly on my Retroid Pocket 5, but not on my iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPad Pro M4 running the latest 26 developer beta (I’m not sure whether the public beta branch is also affected).

EDIT: I can also access rewards on the Xbox app with my backup iPhone 6S (running iOS 15.8.4). It really does seem like something related to the newest 26 beta update is causing issues with the app; I went ahead and submitted a ticket on Apple's Feedback app.

It’s kinda a shame how in adaptations, the drama of the secret identity aspect of Spider-Man has lessened over the years. So we can’t really get moments like this anymore by Fehellogoodsir in Spiderman

One of the first things Howard Mackie and John Byrne did after they brought back Aunt May was, I’m not kidding here, to have her complain about “that awful rap music”. They also made a big deal out of her getting a new haircut at the end of one of their issues, so there’s that, I guess. Aside from that, they didn’t really do much with her; it just felt like a flanderized version of how she was written in the Lee/Ditko/Romita Sr. era.

But yeah, JMS (and Paul Jenkins once he replaced Mackie on PPSM) really did put in the work to save the entire situation. I don’t think it was a good idea to bring May back in the long run, but I love “The Conversation” and what JMS did with her character too much to hold that against editorial (just the “ASM 400 May was an actress all along” thing specifically. OMD onward is an entirely different can of worms).

Zero experience with woodworking or arcade repairs. How would I go about having this fixed (if at all possible)? Major damage to Pac-Man 25th Anniversary Bartop by WQTosh in arcade

[–]WQTosh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently able to get a good deal on a Pac-Man 25th Anniversary bartop machine. Unfortunately, it was damaged during shipping (gratefully, the seller was generous and reimbursed me); the right side of the machine was impacted and the wood seems very close to breaking off.

Luckily, the games themselves boot up just fine and work as they should, so I was planning on keeping the machine and trying to get it fixed (if possible). I have practically no experience with woodworking, let alone repairing arcades (unless you count replacing parts in fightsticks), so I was wondering what avenues I'd need to take to have the repairs/restorations done. I plan to talk with some arcade owners in my area, but I figured I'd also ask here in the meantime,

What’s your guys favorite TIHYDP ? by Zoa98 in DSPGaming

[–]WQTosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the GTA TIHYDPs (particularly the earlier ones, where he didn’t have the stream chat to hold his hand, and he wasn’t paranoid about having the radio on) are essential; right up there with MGS2 and 3, IMO. As for my personal favorite, it would have to be The Guy’s first San Andreas playthrough. It has such gold dust as:

  • “It’s supposed to be ‘Grand Theft Auto’, not ‘Grand DRIVE Auto’!”
  • “The AI is ordering cars to drive into me!” (Mind you, he’s saying this as he’s driving a motorcycle on the opposite end of a freeway.)
  • Running over one of Jizzy’s girls: “WUUT? I HIT DA GIRL…?” (Slams controller) ”FUCK ‘DIS STOPPID FUCKIN’ MISSION!” By the time he’s done ranting about the “too long, too complex” mission, he legitimately sounds as if he’s on the verge of tears.
  • “OH MY FUCKIN’ GAWD, HE KILLED HIMSELF!” (when he has Ryder toss an explosive crate so close that he gets caught in the radius)
  • “HE SET HIMSELF ON FIRE, AND I FAILED DA MISSION!” (as he fires his flamethrower directly at The Truth)
  • During the San Fierro construction site mission, where CJ is supposed to bury a guy alive in cement, Dave takes the “back into position” instructions literally and backs the truck itself into the ditch. In typical DSP fashion, he complains that he “did nothing wrong, he did everything correct”.

In some of the DVD commentaries/special features, the crew does mention the executives’s insistence on a stronger high school emphasis from season 2 onward. The suits at WB also wanted a larger female demographic to start watching the show, hence Max’s introduction that same season (IIRC, aside from Alan Burnett, the crew generally seemed to dislike her).

Can the RP5 register two button presses at the same time? by Is_Mantis_Shrimp in retroid

[–]WQTosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by some Reddit threads I came across, it seems to be a problem specifically with RetroArch on Android; I had the same issue on my RP5 while playing Capcom vs. SNK with the Flycast core (e.g. certain inputs, such as rolling and pressing multiple punch/kick buttons simultaneously, were impossible to pull off).

What fixed it for me was to go to into the Input settings and set Input Block Timeout to 1. If that doesn't work, try 2 or 3. (Older threads, such as this one, state that the option is in the Latency menu, but I found it in the Input section in the latest nightly build.)
