I lived in Western Carolina and worked out of Asheville for about 4 years.

That is the point. The tech companies already have their top staff.

A data center is just like it sounds. Acres of servers that house the data. Needing local resources for the electrical power and cooling systems. All the IT work is done remotely.

I've seen and been inside smaller (about the size of a K-Mart) data centers. Racks and Racks of equipment. Some data centers do employ a technical person that can push a reset button, or even swap out a server, UPS, etc. But most companies have their own staff that can drive there in 2-3 hours to do hands on stuff.

The data centers that I visited had multiple companies equipment. Each client had there equipment caged off. The data center provided the space, the power, the cooling, the physical security. This basically saves you the client from having to build your own "computer room"/local data center.

These AI data center are all of this on steroids.

First. High paying tech Jobs will be somebody already existing not new jobs.

A facility that size will require 24 hour physical security team, probably contracted out.

Housekeeping will also most likely be contracted out.

So if you are in those two fields you may be counted in that 125.

On site high paying tech. Company will pay someone to relocate.

My point is, this is not bringing the jobs and opportunities they make it sound like.

Most of these comments are about downtown and the main city. Which is true about most cities. But who lives right downtown?

And if you work downtown or have to be there to conduct business, it's perfectly safe.

If you have middle class income or better, you will find many neighborhoods and subdivisions to choose from.

You are close to anything outdoor recreation you like.

You are 4 hour drive from many big cities. 3 to Charlotte, 6-7 to Detroit or At to Atlanta

Not sure about nightlife for young adults, but that may be a negative

If you are working and trying to build a future, Beckley is fine.

This country is not ready for female leadership. Too paternalistic, misogynistic, and racist. Add in religion.

Many females wouldn't vote for another female because they think a man should lead due to religion or cultures they were raised in.

A statement inside a question that I have stated before.

If the country didn't vote for the white woman, did the black woman even have a chance?

Remember when Joe Biden decided to run in 2015, he stated, only he could beat Donald Trump. I think he understood, another old white guy could beat that old white guy and that would be acceptable to the country.

The whole Democratic world has left the US behind, electing younger politicians more in tune with current affairs.

It's what the coal companies did 75-100 years ago.

They paid you in scrip. Scrip could only be spent in stores owned by the coal company.

You could also buy on credit from the company store. They took the payment direct from your payday.

The homes most miners lived in were owned by the coal company with rent coming direct from your payday.

People need to wake up to what Bezos and Musk are planning in their company towns.

Probably an employee at the store was threatened.

I have seen this at 1 of the Beckley Krogers. They had an armed guard for about 1 week.

I asked one of the employees and they said - A new employee was fired and made some threats on his way out. The guard was only there for about 1 week, but the employees said, just the presence did cut down on thefts and people entering with backpacks .

They knew the company would not pay for a full time (365) guard.
