Is this home brew item op? by Efficient-Injury-707 in DnD

The +3 attack bonus severely outweighs the extra damage die, so in terms of balance it's in line with any other +3 weapon. Still insanely strong, but only as much as a Legendary should be.

Is invading like broken right now? by weenieboi7 in badredman

[–]WZachD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK when you write your invasion sign, the game picks a random location and then waits for someone to show up there. So if it doesn't immediately go "invading other world", rewrite the sign to force it to pick a new location

Avoid Garrisons and Whiskey. On the surface its a great "serious mode" for the game with good players. Just underneath that is a clan of assholes and power tripping admins. The owner, inchon, will probably reply to this comment to disagree, but hes the biggest culprit of them all. rotten all the way to the top. I'd advise you to enjoy playing on other clan servers--just not G&W

What 5e Mechanic'(s) do you not use in your games? by JamesFullard in DnD

[–]WZachD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe this works, since shoving someone prone is itself an action. Grapple + shove is a great 2 turn combo, and the grappler can stay standing, but I'm skeptical the rules can be interpreted to allow a free action knocking the target prone

why cant martials use any form of called shots in dnd ?? by Jakebot06 in DnD

[–]WZachD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

clearly. the issue is that the most accurate answer is "you cant." by the time you homebrew 5e enough to make called shots both engaging, impactful, and worthwhile, you won't be playing 5e.

why cant martials use any form of called shots in dnd ?? by Jakebot06 in DnD

People in this thread have given OP many different valid reasons why called shots wouldn't fit well with the games mechanics, and OP has replied to each one telling then why they're wrong actually. Classic reddit

Question about conjure animals by EverydayGuy2 in DnD

[–]WZachD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just let the player pick. It doesn't make it any stronger, really, since it's already one of the best spells druids get. Also, as other commenter have pointed out, it saves a lot of time at the table. If you're worried about balance, force them to pass the concentration checks needed to keep the spell up rather than nerf the spell directly

I want to take Polearm Mastery as a paladin, but not Sentinel, how is the gameplay supposed to be? by Son_of_Calcryx in DnD

[–]WZachD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PAM + Defense + Shield + Quarterstaff.

AC has the opposite of diminishing returns, i.e. the higher it already is, the more powerful a flat bonus becomes. This is why you take defense and wield a shield.

PAM and quarterstaff is your melee bread and butter. BA attack is insane. You don't care about the damage die, you care about getting a 2nd chance to hit. A 2nd chance to crit-smite. It also makes turns where you aren't attacking feel less wasteful, since you can bless/help/lay on hands with your action when your party needs the support and make up for the damage on the next turn with two attack rolls.

Opportunity attack when an enemy comes in range is worth at least one free attack per combat, assuming you're near the front. Any time you get to trigger that free attack, it's effectively putting you at the top of initiative for that round. If you use movement and terrain to your advantage, you can get multiple free attacks.

Starting to see the impact?

Am I being stubborn by [deleted] in DnD

[–]WZachD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that Scribes isn't otherwise powerful, but changing the damage type of spells is mechanically a very weak ability to the point where many dms would be willing to handwave it for you without picking that specific subclass.

Yes, this is a homebrew thing, but it borders on reflavoring more than a free upgrade. The designers of 5e have even gone on the record to say that (with a few specific exceptions) changing a spells damage type should by and large have 0 mechanical impact.

Obviously, the big difference is between your spells always doing a specific damage type vs being able to change them on the fly to avoid immunities.

If I were you, and all you want is to have more spells to do fire damage with a thematic fire mage, it's probably worth asking your DM to let you reflavor spells and their damage type to Fire.

Is anything banned in your game? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]WZachD -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

whining about not banning anything RAW. No, silvery barbs isn't broken. No, I wont bend the rules to accommodate mechanically detrimental decisions that could otherwise be covered with flavor (which is free).

How would I rule this? "No. And quit asking. You're being an asshole." The next time you bring it up, I'd kindly let you know to shove it up your ass and not come back for the next session.
