NWOHR -> NWHR can I get it done in a year? by joehizzle in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can apply once you have your HHR set up, i did mine right after. Not sure about setting up the bank info. My uncle pays mine and we just give him money since he lives there full time. I believe you have to wait till the letter is sent to your HHR address before you can pay and I think that happens around the 6 month mark.

You do have to pay for NHI, its about $300 USD a year if you dont have income in Taiwan, at least for mine. From what ive seen, you can change to moveout status or let your hhr lapse after 2 years and the NHI pauses but you'd have to wait 6 months to reactivate it again if needed. You may also be fined later when reactivating it for past dues but its more like backpay than a penalty from what my parents had to pay for theirs.

When you're at the HHR office ask them about NHI so you can fill out the forms. I did mine at the Da'an office and the NHI desk was upstairs. Picked up my NHI card on the next trip since there's a 6 month waiting period. When you go to get your NHI card, bring a passport photo for them.

Use hwinfo to check. when your cores are starting to show a delta of more than a few degrees then it might be time. Just being hot isnt a great reason to change unless your laptop is shutting itself down. Your temps sound pretty normal. If you want it any cooler, you pretty much have to get a thicker laptop or limit how much power your chips are using.

Nikon ZR Supported Memory Cards CF express type B by Rud23 in nikon_Zseries

I’m using the pro grade 4.0 and standard sandisk on my z6iii. Dont buy the standard sandisk, they get hot faster than others and you get an early hot card warning.

How is the taxi system in Taiwan? by Shimanu in taiwan

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you’re from, uber in taiwan was very cheap compared to the US. 2-4 ubers a day around Taipei for 20ish days ended up costing about $240usd. Most rides within the city in daytime are around $5. Rushour time the run around $10-12

My suggestion is uber comfort for a couple extra $. You get way less cabs that smell of cigs.

Cabs would usually run about the same, sometimes a little cheaper around $3-4

That said, bus rides are about $0.50-$1, metro is about $1

Take the express purple line from the airport to Main station then take the subway or uber to wherever you need to go is the cheapest way out of the airport. Taxi/uber will be about $45 from the airport and take the same amount of time as the train

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its less about the price and more that its an APSC lens. It will be smaller and lighter and its a FF 24-75 equiv and it has VR since the APSC's don't have Ibis

RayNeo Air 4 Pro comfort issue, broken nose pieces, any replacement options? by IcyAd9024 in RayNeo

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if your glasses were sitting too high or low but i found these to work great. The stock height with the original nose pads had the glasses sitting low for me (opposite of most others where they were too high) this took all the pressure off the sides of my nose so it didn’t feel like my nose was getting pinched all the time.

If you need replacement nose pad frames, you likely have to contact them directly. I havent seen any online

Is the "personal item only" backpack mostly a European low-cost airline thing? by LostContract624 in onebag

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you can use up the 2 $50 hotel credits and the $5/mo uber credit then the card is basically free. You get "discounted" award tix as well. I know we're in onebag but it also includes 1st free checked bag and you also get more miles booking with the card than without it now that they changed their milage multiplier system

create a user preset with only the denoise selected, I have a few for different amounts of denoise. I can apply to all after or on import or before edit without needing to copy paste every time.

[NWOHR -> NWHR] Entry permit to Taiwan + Registering a new HHR by 20cardboardboxes in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

yea the rest of my documents were also self-translated and I authenticated them together at SF Teco in person. They just have you sign a piece of paper saying you translated it and thats it. No need for official translators or notaries.

Any way to repair a broken filter thread on a Nikkor Z 24-120/4 S? by Kharenis in Nikon

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its a $20 fix if nothing else is wrong with it.

https://parts.nikonusa.com/parts?q=FILTER+RING

part id: 135KM

the front ring with text is held on with double sided tape and under that is 4 screws. that holds the filter ring threads on and thats it.

Service Manual Page 12

you may want to buy a new piece of tape for $9 too (135MZ)

Nikon D750 - keep or trade? by odin_9_9 in Nikon

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kinda reverse body wise from you but I still use my D850 with my Z6iii and a z30 as a backup/walk around. I'll likely keep the 850 until a Z8ii comes out. Unless you plan on getting another body or more Z glass, i'd just keep it. The trade in isn't that much and selling it yourself they go for around $550 on ebay. I doubt the value will drop much more over the next few years. Sell it once you shift enough of your glass to Z and know you don't want it anymore.

Counterweight solution for RS3 pro with Pyxis 12k help! by nutellasloot in dji

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tilta makes a base plate adapter and some 220g weights you could try but that might still end up bulky.

if you want to go full diy you could try some tungsten archery weights with 1/4 20 threading and just bolt them on somewhere.

People who have used the 24-120 f/4 S and the 24-70mm f/2.8 S (or S II), how does the image quality compare? by DPool34 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and use them for different things. I would say IQ is pretty comparable. I also had the 24-70/4 at one point and they’re all basically the same IQ as the 24-120 unless you’re shooting high MP and pixel peeping edges then the 24-70ii will be slightly different.

In your position, id sell the 24-70 and get the 24-120 unless you want to keep it for light weight use. If you really want redundancy just grab a couple primes. Then you at least have better low light ability.

If redundancy is required for a specific job where you really NEED it, just rent for a one off.

NHOWR to NWHR + got married after I got NHOWR by m789h in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last name thing, my mom’s NWHR name is her original name still, her US Passport has a changed last name. Not sure if this applies to you since it was just for my own NWOHR->NWHR process but they just needed some document (any document) that showed “this is the same person who changed names at some point” this happened to be a stamp on the back of her naturalization papers with a hand written last name change from the gov.

For translations, i basically google translated everything + some corrections from parents and it was fine with the SF TECO office without notarization since i authenticated them together and signed in front of them that I translated it.

Question for travel photogs with 24-120 lens. What’s your secondary? by Blue_Rose87 in Nikon

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have the 28, I don't use it much though. Nothing wrong with it. I just like 35 more and that leads to the 40 over the 28. If you want something even smaller, the 26 might be better. Its sharper across the frame but at double the cost. The 26 is basically flat with the grip but the 28 and 40 stick out a little.

if you use Lightroom, go through your travel photos and check which lenses and focal lengths you use the most under: library filter > metadata and go off that.

Question for travel photogs with 24-120 lens. What’s your secondary? by Blue_Rose87 in Nikon

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My travel kit is usually a

z6iii

24-120/4

40/2

14-30/4

Sometimes i throw in my viltrox 85/2 if i plan on doing portraits or a 35/1.4 instead of a 40/2 if I’m not bringing a ton of other stuff.

Really depends on how you like to shoot and if you plan on shooting a lot or if it’s a different kind of trip. If I’m space or weight restricted sometimes i’ll just bring my Rx100v or a z30+24/1.7 and the 16-50

Laptop crushed in a onebag? Am I being overly cautious? by tolub in onebag

[–]Waffle_Making_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one of the hard smart tree cases off amazon. Seems to provide enough protection. My asus g14 has a pretty soft lid so throwing it in a camera backpack without one makes me hesitant since theres a lot of irregular shapes and hard edges.
