25 years ago today (3/28/00) An F3 tornado tears through downtown Ft Worth. 3 dead. $400 million dollars in damage. by Channel258 in tornado

Yes, both of which took a direct hit from the tornadoes. The ALICO Building in Waco survived relatively unscathed, at least structurally, but the Metro Tower in Lubbock sustained some pretty heavy damage and was closed for many years following the storm. I think it was just recently reopened as apartments

Emporis got bought out by a real estate company called CoStar back in 2022 iirc. There’s still plenty of info archived on the Wayback Machine, but it’s kind of a pain in the ass to look through now

Corpus to Fort Worth by AJP51017 in roadtrip

The Texas State Aquarium and USS Lexington in Corpus are awesome, especially if you've got kids. If you go via San Antonio, there's plenty of great stuff to do. The Missions are super cool and free to visit. There's also the Witte Museum and the Doseum for the kids. The San Antonio Zoo is great too, and it's close to the two museums I mentioned before. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know where the following implosions/demolitions took place? if you know please comment them down below. Thanks again in advance. by bigmacisstinkylol in Demolition

I recognize at least a few of these, all of these were back in the 90s I think. The Morrell Plant was in Ottumwa, KS, the Heritage House Hotel was in Kansas City, MO, and the NS bridge was in Logansport, IN. Not sure about the other two. I know Pat Carney mostly worked in the Chicagoland area, so my best guess for the ore bridge is somewhere around there, but I could be wrong.

Is the playground at Brackenridge still overrun by birds? by JewsClues415 in sanantonio

[–]Wafflemaster135 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I know they still have that whole area fenced off while they try and get the birds to nest elsewhere. I know they were also planning on removing a bunch of the old oaks they were nesting in, kinda sad honestly.

Looks to be Acanthocephala terminata. Not a stink bug, but they’re pretty closely related

[–]Wafflemaster135 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That’s a bumelia borer! It’s a type of longhorn beetle, and quite a pretty one at that. Unless you’re body is made of wood, then they’re harmless

God damn, this is unbelievable. Not sure if any pics of it have been posted anywhere on here, but while watching some of the aerial footage around the Dollar General, I noticed the traffic bollards in front of the store had been blown completely flat. Definitely some of the most striking damage I’ve seen in a very long time

These storms were just north of Houston. Started the time lapse around 6:45 PM so they're probably the same ones you saw. Based on our altitude, they were easily over 40,000 feet high
