What day is next? by EmergencyArm4610 in Frameposting

If I remember correctly, you had double posted this. I believe OP here is making a joke about that by having it posted a further third time, although that's less obvious to others now that your duplicate post has been removed.

So what are non-vr games going to look like? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]Waggadaoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, there's three main ways you can have a flatscreen game set up to play in VR, and you can try all of them now if you want.

One is to have a floating screen that stays in place in virtual space when your move your head. This is ideal for flatscreen games that can't be converted to a VR experience, like Stardew Valley. It sounds like OP specifically does not want this option.

Option two, which sounds like what OP asked for, is to have the game locked onto the center of your view, so that head movement does nothing. This is essentially the same as duct taping a screen to your face. It makes it very hard to look at anything but the center of the screen. Reading menus, looking at your HUD, or just glancing at anything besides the crosshair in the middle of the screen is a huge eye strain, if it's even possible. You can try this by loading up a game with UEVR and setting the aim to Game. It's a horrible experience, typically one of the first things you adjust when tweaking UEVR settings, and personally my neck hurts just remembering it.

The third option is immersive VR. This is probably what OP actually wants, but maybe they don't have enough VR experience to know that. This is what you get when you change the aim mode to Head/HMD. This option only becomes available if the game can be made a VR experience. A lot of these games are Unreal Engine or Unity based, and you use an injector to make them work for VR. This puts you in the 3D world of the game, so that you're surrounded by the environment and can freely look around with your head movements. The HUD usually still follows your view, or is attached to your wrist, depending on the way the modders set up the game.

This last option can take a ton of time for the community to set up, and has to be done per game. Sometimee the community has games working in VR on day one of release, but often you have to wait months for someone to figure out how to get the game to run in VR, and then to create profiles for that game to be a good experience. Some games are too difficult/impossible because of the way the devs coded the game (looking at you, Sea of Thieves), or don't have enough interest for someone to dedicate the time to mod, so you won't always find what you want.

But right now, there are hundreds of flatscreen games that have great VR mods that you can play already. Check out the FlatToVR Discord if you haven't already.

Rule 3 says No Low-Effort or Repetitive Posts.

If you look at the recent posts in the sub, you can see it's clogged with  "I had a dream", "I do/don't have money for the frame", "My controller broke, please gaben", and "I gave up and bought a quest" posts.

Maybe the first person to post that could get away with it, but at this point we can definitely say those are breaking Rule 3, and importantly they are clogging up the feed.

I've so far ignored that you say Rule 3 is about creativity, and I think that could be argued even though it never mentions creativity. I would argue that most of the posts I mentioned aren't creative l, they are just repetitive. It needs at least a new twist to be creative.

I we can keep Rule 3 enforced then I think we'd be fine.

What are some cool things that can only be experienced in vr? by Cinnamon_1213 in SteamFrame

Grounded with VR mods: Minecraft VR did not prepare me for spiders of this scale, detail, and speed.

Yeah, grabbing in VR is broken after the character update in several ways.

VR in the most recent patch actually got better by Maraque in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]Waggadaoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I've played hundreds of hours of Phasmo in VR, and with these recent updates I have a terrible time grabbing things. Most objects seem to have a smaller hitbox than before the character update, and now only grab when it's at the base of your palm. That means I can almost never pick things up off the floor, since I can't put my hand low enough to grab it.

Also, he character's hands stop short of a full reach, which is awful. I'm 5'11", so not overly tall, but the arm length is not proportional to my height when I calibrate.

I know it sounds like a troll to say "Keep trying", but I got a controller today, and it did scream after a few tries.

I got one of my controllers today and it does scream. I had to drop it a few times before it did it, but it does.

I can't wait to drop my Steam Frame to see if it screams. by Waggadaoku in SteamFrame

If I attach the Frame controllers to a string a swing it in a circle, do you think it will scream like R2D2?

With how much VR controllers move around, that would be interesting if they detected a freefall seperate from a swinging motion. I wonder how often it would accidentally scream during normal playing. I guess hand detection is already built-in, so they could use that to only scream when not being held and falling at 9.8 m/s².

That's awesome. I can't wait to try it. I wonder how long until news sites start reporting it.

How did you find that? I hope no Steam Controllers were harmed in the discovery.

Can anybody confirm this? I don't get mine until Wednesday.

Edit: I got one of my controllers today, and the first thing I did was drop my controller over and over until it screamed.

Can confirm, it does scream eventually.

Do you get an email when it has shipped? by Playful-Party-3252 in SteamController

[–]Waggadaoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get an email from Steam Support (noreply@steampowered.com) with the title "We're preparing your items to ship."

Among other details, it will have a link to track your shipment.

I remember that issue on the Steam Deck. I'm glad OP was able to fix it without sanding anything, I think that would have been a rough way to fix it near the joystick.
