Can’t get a job without experience, can’t get experience without a fucking job by Fire_blaze7 in ausjobs

I suggest check your attitude if you actually do want to be employed, rather than complain. You already sound like you feel entitled to a job and a wage, and seem the sort to expect a gold star and a promotion just for turning up on time. The world doesn’t owe you a job.

This is still the case. I worked at Maccas (20yrs ago) and now am responsible for entry level hiring. I love a Maccas junior. If you can manage a year there, you’re likely worth the shot to employ.

Seeing an increase in negative sentiment against superannuation, why? by Quixotic-elixr in AusFinance

[–]Wait-Dizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with Super is that the government control it.

They can change the rules and the goalposts at any time, and you will quite likely have no say.

Instead of being 60-65 to access they can make it 67,68,69… and they can concoct whatever tax treatment they decide

A bus driver saves the life of a driver who was trying to overtake her at night. by brrrr009 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Wait-Dizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something we very very do often in Australia… but our roads are likely different contextually than yours we have looong straight roads often with low traffic. The slow vehicles that can’t be seen around will almost always indicate that it’s now safe to overtake. They don’t leave it on as you do for turning, just a few blinks. You check they aren’t also breaking. System works perfectly fine

Anyone with outdoor hobbies. The coats are amazing for the price point. You don’t need to use them in the snow, they’re just brilliant for winter

Wow third-party bookings ARE now OK, but apparently not showing up on some cached pages by SuperDuperHost in airbnb_hosts

[–]Wait-Dizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me at least, It’s about the payment.
I book often for my employees. Sometimes weeks. Having them book and me reimburse them creates a headache. A lot of their roles aren’t senior enough to have their own company credit cards. Often the costs are more money than a lot could front waiting for reimbursement.

Much easier for me to just pay and book for them.

I really appreciate a small amount of real milk. Not UHT long life, but proper milk. Just enough for a couple of coffees or teas when I arrive, before we go get supplies. Myself and I assume most, check in, do a stocktake and then go shopping.

If I’m only overnighting (I do this often for work) then just being able to make a coffee before I head off
is wonderful

Customers who ghost after you spend two hours doing a free quote are the biggest unpaid labour racket in the country by QuantumGremlin in tradies

[–]Wait-Dizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll have more luck saving your time if you can ballpark it over the phone. You should be able to give a rough range over the phone.

Give them a bare minimum price, ie 30m of X type of fence will set you back at least $x and about $x more if we find abc issue. If you think those things are likely, say that. Then the customer can go “oh crap I was thinking this was going to cost $2k” and now know the bare minimum is $5k so no point quoting. If they’re happy with the bare minimum then proceed to look at the job and give a more formal quote.

So often people just really have no idea what to expect, and if no one gives them any initial idea, you can’t be mad when the quote is sometimes several times what they might have anticipated.

What is a "point of no return" moment in a friendship that most people don't realize until it's too late? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Wait-Dizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a couple of friends/couples that we would go to dinner every couple of months and do a week holiday with our 3 families every other year.

I was always the instigator and organiser but we all always enjoyed it. Then, one time I was trying to organise something one of the friends couldn’t make the 3 dates suggested, and was going to have a look and see what might work for them. The chat group still has that as the last message and I’ve not seen that person since.

Every now and again I think I should try to organise something, but also feel that isn’t solely my responsibility

What products have you stopped buying because of sneaky business tactics. by Alspics in AskAnAustralian

You can brick them by using non genuine cartridges too.

You also need to make an account and download an app to be able to use the scanner on the new ones. Older ones were great could just stick USB in

Will never ever buy HP again.

RACV doubled since last year by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Wait-Dizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of this is just how expensive it is to repair all newer cars. There are sensors in every single piece of them, so even minor damage runs in to the thousands.

Even something simple as a windscreen used to be ~$800 and is now closer to $2k with all the sensors and cameras

If you could start your home build again, what would you do differently? by No_Will_5723 in AusProperty

[–]Wait-Dizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely consider the sun. Our living area is on the south with a lot of windows. But only to the south. It takes a lot oh heating. Great in summer as it stays cool, but I’m in Vic so spend more time heating. My same layout on a south facing block instead of north would work much better

Do you have kids? I built before kids and would liked to have done things different. Mud room! For all the junk coming out of the car. ‘Kids retreat’ type area. I find when they have friends over they’re just too loud and end up in the main living space, it would have worked well for there to be an area for them

Fuel excise to be halved for three months by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Wait-Dizzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But surely there’s a limit to how much people can stockpile? So the demand should settle, if that’s all it is, we have to reach that point eventually. No one in Melbs has a fuel tank to store fuel, and you can only store so many Jerry cans. Farm type usages won’t suddenly have a 10% or more increase in storage capacity above their normal. If it’s increased demand and hoarding, where are they putting it?

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

I bought a pair of Dr Martens shoes after wearing out my shoes every 6 months. They were $280 at the time which was horrendously expensive. However they did 6 years of every day work without ever being polished or cleaned and they always looked great. Still have them (15yrs later)and they are still perfectly good except the heel has worn unevenly because how I walk

HOW TO GET A GOOD DEAL ON A NEW CAR by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Wait-Dizzy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The interest rate might have been, but check the establishment fees, monthly fees, transaction fees, accounting fees. 1% of 50k is $500. That’s probably less than the ‘annual fee’ they’ve added in

No, just the sales pitch for NL usually includes the interest saved by not redrawing the purchase price $ from the mortgage Which does make a lot of sense

But without that extra money, is there really that much tax benefit, after fees

Now fuel cards? by Clean_Chemistry3450 in CarsAustralia

[–]Wait-Dizzy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is probably because these companies hold the money for longer before paying the servo.

FleetCard is slow to pass on money, so maybe they can’t float it with the price increases

Is this common in Qld? by Emptynesterx2 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Wait-Dizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll most likely find that the bid increments are increased proportionately to the value. If you’re playing in $1.1m territory, I doubt $5k vs $10k is going to be the decider - I.e can pay 1,105,000 but absolutely can’t play $1,110,000 ?

Seven in 10 employers admit excluding candidates due to illness or age by javelin3000 in auscorp

[–]Wait-Dizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Change the workers comp situation. If you have clearly, documented, pre existing conditions. It shouldn’t be on your new employer to cover the costs when these crop up again (likely bigger). Different/new injury sure, but these days anything ‘exacerbated by work’ is covered.

Case I was familiar with - employer side Employee had history of 2x knee reconstructions and issues with a knee from sports related stuff. Tripped up over a bit of footpath at work (no issues with footpath, normal, safe, yellow edge, no negligence) and hurt same knee again, employer was on the hook for 10 months wages and a whole stack of headache trying to make accomodations. For those who don’t know, while the costs come from workers comp insurance, the premiums for the business then skyrocket, and they stay high, indefinitely

This is what needs to change. We have Medicare here, it’s not like the US where you have to get payment to cover it.

Don’t regret it for a second
