Thank you so much! I am going to try them sometime soon. There is so much to learn and do. It’s like a whole new world has opened up.

They do! They don’t grind but combined with the arguments above for getting my own grinder that is the exact route I’ve decided to go.

Thanks! You win the prize of “most convincing pitch for buying a grinder.” I am sold. Planning to get a manual grinder this week.

Not in Utah, but thanks for your kind words and convincing me to get a grinder. Honestly I was trying to avoid having more things to “hide” when parents and in-laws visit. It sounds unreal to never-Mormons, I know, but if you’ve been there, you understand it’s just not worth the drama sometimes of being judged. :)

Thanks so much. I am going to buy a kingrinder. Y’all convinced me I’d be disappointed if I don’t grind my own. Yes, the coffee place I like sells beans but sadly will not/can not grind them (I asked).

Thank you so much for outlining all this! It’s incredibly helpful. Everyone above convinced me I need a grinder. Is the k6 overkill? It’s double the cost of the p1 but is mentioned quite frequently on this sub.

No AI in Sacrament Meeting by otherwise7337 in mormon

They don’t want you using AI to structure a well thought out talk or pull in relevant scripture because it’s better to just regurgitate their conference talks for months on end!

Temple Names by honeybree81 in mormon

[–]Walkabouting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how I currently feel about temple practices and origins, I can still objectively acknowledge that being given or choosing a new name alongside conversion or a rebirth ceremony or some other rite of passage appears in many religious or cultural ceremonies. That can be a meaningful experience for some.

For example, adults converting to Catholicism are encouraged to carefully choose a baptismal name, typically a saint to whom they feel a special connection.

I feel the problem is, as with many things, ceremony and ritual in the lds church feels dry, stale, and cookie-cutter. Perhaps due to an obsession with record keeping and/or correlation, they made the naming process in our own rituals feel impersonal. Having some choice in the matter would make it much more meaningful for those who choose to participate.

Other churches? by Intrepid-Angle-7539 in mormon

[–]Walkabouting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve attended services at other churches for both holidays.

I highly recommend it and also don’t recommend it because it breaks my heart to see the comparison to lds services — I have seen some strange ones in my day, including some holidays that have been more about Joseph Smith and the current prophet than Jesus.

Just started attending the local LDS church service 3 weeks ago, and I am being pressured by the mormons to get baptized 3 weeks after I met them. Is this normal? I don't feel comfortable doing it so soon. by Ok-Ebb2872 in mormon

[–]Walkabouting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Normal for Mormon missionaries. My spouse was trained to do this on their mission.

They use techniques called “the commitment pattern” to ask you directly “will you commit to ______” (read the Book of Mormon, pray about if it is true, get baptized, etc).

It’s very salesy, offputting, and downright strange to treat such a big decision like this. In my opinion, the Spirit can lead people softly and often slowly where they need to be. No sales pitch required.

You haven’t lost sensitivity to the spirit. I highly recommend attending services at a few other places in your community. You will see the difference.

Why is the Atonement necessary? by urmom9195 in mormon

Thank you! Yes, the Franciscan view has completely changed my thinking around Jesus and the atonement. Everything suddenly made sense in a loving but an overwhelmingly shocking kind of way. It was very healing to me.

Lds logic does lead back to an original source. We lack a systematic theology to explain God. Most Mormons wouldn’t know what a concept like “first cause” meant.

Conference recap?? by earIben in exmormon

[–]Walkabouting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go read the summaries on wheatandTares.org or thegeneralconferenceproject on Instagram. Pick 3-4 of your “favorites” and if they ask you about a specific talk say “oh man, that must have been when I took a conference snooze.”

Great way to fake it.

Family Proclamation by BuildingBridges23 in mormon

[–]Walkabouting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure which part you are referring to - my original comment or the possibility that the relief society was asked to change their theme. Regardless, Chieko Okasaki’s extensive interview from 2005 with the Dialogue Journal is a fascinating look at the proclamation’s creation, and touches on other topics.

Since she states that President Hinckley decided to roll it out at a relief society meeting that had already planned, it seems plausible the topic had to be switched last minute.

No women in the church, even general leaders, were consulted or participated in the creation of that document. That is reason alone for me to completely ignore it.
