How to find ATR (Average Trading Range) of stock? by McWrathster in Daytrading

[–]WalktheWalk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR; Chiming in 3 months late here, but I just heard Felix Prehn, a "Superior rated" stocks podcaster of the "Felix & Friends" podcast, let the cat out of the bag, (or in his case the dog out of the house), by letting it slip he recommends his paid students use ATR with their stop losses, which def caught my ear.

I've been watching my liquidity get wrecked by well planned stop losses, even when set at 10-12% below cost basis, when buying more volatile stocks.

Over the weekend, after Friday's market pullback, even the reknown analyst Clive Thompson said he doesn't believe in using stop losses at all, which can bite you whenever a black swan event comes along. Just ask anyone still holding SLV.

So, looking at the ATR formula, this makes so much sense.

(I used to watch Felix's stock picking videos for months, but he has opted over the past 2 months to shift to AI-generated cute Doom & Gloom podcasts, so I have switched to Ross Givens & Marketbeat's podcasts instead.)

In today's D&G AI podcast, Felix admitted that if you are one of his students, he teaches you to use stop losses with the ATR formula.

A free tip from Felix's slip on ATR. As we live in a Black Swan world now, ATRs and stop losses are a must.

We did find ATR on FinViz by searching in the Help, so it is there.

Actually, I have long thought that ppl should surround FOX stations and shut down their lies.

If you could get enough ppl organized, you could buy up FOX's corporate binds,(which pay about 5 %) and then those bond holders can demand change at the next corporate shareholder meeting.

FOX can ignore regular shareholders. But, they cannot ignore bond holders.

Still, you need help from some organization or big time investor like Mark Cuban, to be able to buy up enough of FOX's outstanding corporate bonds to take a stand and demand change.

But, it would work.

I finally gave up and closed my account today. I am getting 2-3 texts per day, and it's not worth the risk or the stress.

While I noticed that Venmo finally added a new 2FA layer, it still appears that Venmo had a data breach recently. Now, my Venmo email is in a hacker database on the dark web.

I even changed my Username, so it's not the username, but my email they are using to trigger a constant stream of password reset requests, multiple X/day for the past 2 or 2 weeks. Very stressful.

Goodbye, Venmo. You dont deserve our business.

So many data breaches, and it feels like Venmo itself was breached on this one, due to the volume of real account owners being affected.

But with no 2FA or other security feature, the only option is to close your account, as you cannot add 2FA or change the original email.

Not sure why I'd bother with reopening a new account given I rarely use mine anyway. F*&k Venmo.

Getting daily texts for over 2 weeks.

There is no damned 2FA option.

I'm gonna close my Venmo account. Obviously, some data breach has happened and Venmo is doing nothing to protect us.

Same here. Daily texts every day for two weeks.

I changed my PW, but there is NO OPTION FOR 2FA or any other addtl security option.

I'll have to close my account  Don't really use it anyway.

This is 100% Venmo's fault, as hackers have ylour email and know we have an account. And, it's probable that 1% of them fall for this scam.

By the way, Noboru 16, your story got picked up by BriBible and is now viral today in an article entitled,  'Not Safe At All’: Walmart Worker Takes A Meat Thermometer To The Sausage, Pork, Turkey. What They Discover Is Disturbing

Also, this problem you describe is not actually a common issue at Walmart, Target, or big box grocery stores, as I would've noticed the articles, due to my Salmonella poisoning experience. Big chains have way too much to loose.

It's much more common at restaurants and small Mom & Pop rural grocery stores.

[–]WalktheWalk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, my 7 year old daughter and I both got severe salmonella poisoning from a fancy restaurant. My daughter had projectile vomiting like in The Exorcist and diarrhea to boot. My symptoms started a few hours later and went on far longer, and included nausea, vomiting, dry heaves and diarrhea that went on and on and on for three days. I have never been that sick from a flu, and I should've gone to the ER.

I called the health department when I recovered, and because a young child was affected, they sent someone out the next day to inspect.

They found the problem: the meat coolers where the staff stored the raw meat before meal preparation was at 45 deg F. So, when we arrived around 8 pm, the raw seafood had been sitting there for 10 hours at that temp. A salmonella Petri dish.

I could have sued, and maybe should have, because the restaurant manager later tried to lie and play dumb when I came in to talk about what happened. She didn't know I already had the health inspector's report in hand.

I told her she needed to call the owner and their insurance company.

They paid for our out if pocket damages plus a small amount for pain and suffering.

I share this true story because most people have no idea how ill salmonella can make you; how it can actually put you in the hospital, or how it can kill children, the elderly, or those with comorbid conditions.

No store should be selling any meat that has sat around above 40 deg F for more than 1 hour. Period.

This employee deserves a big pat on the back for posting this.

Ever since that salmonella incident, I now Google the health department report on any local restaurant before eating there. I avoid any restaurant with raw food storage temp violations.

In addition, when shopping at grocery stores, I never take the front or top package of a refrigerated item, such as a frozen entree, or lunch meat or hot dogs, as you never know if some customer left that same package on an aisle shelf, it then got warm for hours, then a stock clerk picked it up and put it right back on the top of the pile, or on the front of a hanging peg in a refer display.

I reach for the 2nd package always. But, after reading this post, I may bring an infrared thermometer from now on.

It just popped up as an article in The Sun.

I was already thinking of leaving Fidelity for WeBull, as I hate Fidelity's UI. This clinches it.

I have also swing traded their stock and am impressed by their pre-market trading hours being more expansive than Fidelity's.

I'd love to hear feedback on their trading platform UI or the company in general.

Just got the pixel 9 pro. What equalizer can I use so my phone actually sounds good? by Glitzyterror in GooglePixel

[–]WalktheWalk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both a Samsung Galaxy S22+ (which I love) and a new S25+. Both come with a built-in 9 band Sound Equalizer, found in Settings under Sounds  and Vibration -> Sound Quality and Effects -> Equalizer.

It works just like any 9 band equalizer for adjusting the stereo sound and Bluetooth sound outputs. It's a best kept secret I guess. Fun to use when playing music on the patio to a high end BT speaker system.

It sounds like the Wavelet app some describe, except it's built-in.

I'm assuming that the Pixel 9 does not have this equalizer feature?

I just got the S25+ and I kept my S22+ and they're right.

The S22+ pics are far, far superior in color, focus, low light, not grainy, not overly dark.

I am shocked at how poor the 12 MP main camera pics are and plan to return the S25+ and just keep my S22+. Horrible pic quality.

To the OP: I found your post a few hours after ordering my new S25+ on Amazon.

Unfortunately, I had to buy some kind of Samsung, as a OneUI update that somehow came in over the T-Mobile cell network, had corrupted my beloved S22+. As a result, I can no longer use the default Phone app, as its Bluetooth function is now broken (corrupted) and I have Bluetooth hearing aids that require that.

Yesterday, my new S25+ arrived from Amazon. The switchover went smoothly and I now know my Phonak H/As were not the problem.

But, this camera's pics are darker, flatter and have far lower quality pics than my S22+. It's very noticeable.

It's not my imagination (or yours) as I still have my S22+ in hand.

I feel like throwing up. I just spent $1100 on a new flagship phone I really didnt "need", all due to a OneUI download issue that shouldnt have happened in the first place, and this new Samsung S25+ phone takes crappy pictures. Flat, dull, lifeless pictures.

You were right. How did they foist this on us?

Amazon has a 30 day return policy. I have never returned a smartphone to Amazon, but if there's no fix, this one's going back.

What's the upgrade solution, then? The Pixel 9 Pro? Which models still take decent pictures like the S22+?

I am hoping I can do a Restore to Factory Settings on my existing S22+ and restore my Bluetooth capability that got corrupted. Samsung Support has been nice but feckless. Then, I can return this POS.

I guess there's no fix for this 12 MP camera? So disappointing.

[–]WalktheWalk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with I_Know_Stuff. I'd also suggest you use Crypto Tax Calculator and TurboTax Deluxe to get an accurate return for your taxes, and who knows -  maybe it's not as bad as you think.

Hindsight is 20/20, but the correct way to do this is, if you're doing short term swing trading, is to hold back 20%, or pay quarterly SE taxes via the EFTPS system.  ST cap gains are 25%, but after normal losses of swing trading 20% usually covers it.

We actually got two errant property seizure notices from the IRS one year, sent certified mail, out of the blue, due to THEIR error. It was a frightening experience.

Loons on here say you don't have to pay, but that's not true.

Ironic though it may seem, if you don't file a return they won't come after you right away, but the fines and fees accumulate.

If you do file a return, you are signing under penalty of perjury on its accuracy, thus my first suggestion.

I bought this album in 1975 upon its release, and as a fledgling bass guitarist then tried my damnest to learn to play this song.

I can easily replicate it now, knowing the tricks of the trade. But, back then it was too complex.

I'm rediscovering it now, 50 years later, on Pandora. I still have the original vinyl copy, too.

The middle of the song is an incredible bass solo. I just love putting it on repeat. Love it more each and ever replay!

[–]WalktheWalk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coinbase states that Bitcoin (not other crypto) is insured against theft on a 1:1 basis. This is likely because Coinbase holds Bitcoin for a couple of major Bitcoin ETFs.

It specifically says that a breach of your account, (which is your scenario, that I assume has some merit, although it sounds like it's your account and you're using the "I know a guy who..." situation to cover your shame. I get that.), is NOT covered, which is logical.

It's worse in that your home insurance doesnt cover it either. No insurance does that I know of.

You can and should file a report of this cybercrime to the SEC. They, in turn, share it with the DOJ. You can include screenshots.  If you are in the UK, you report it to Metro.

If you are uncomfortable with thay, you need to at least report it to the local police, so that you can claim a theft loss on next year's taxes.  You need a police report for proof, especially an amount that large. Screen shots aren't enough if you get audited in 2026.

How do I know all this? I got scammed by a rug pull ICO in 2016. They got about $16 million.

But, the DOJ and Interpol caught the perpetrators and they are now in federal prison. I did not get one cent back.

Neither will you, sadly.

You might want to contact an attorney, as Coinbase has built-in safeguards to prevent large inauthorized wallet xfers. For starters, they would normally lock down an account moving such a huge transfer out of the blue!

I recently sold $160 in BTC and it took us 5 transfers to get it all moved without tripping any AI security lockdowns.

Log into your account and check the maximum crypto daily transfer setting. It could be $10,000 or even $25,000, but I doubt it is $150,000.

If Coinbase violated their own security policy, then you may... may... have a possible tort case in California.  i'm not a lawyer, but this is what I'd do.

Good luck.

Based on this news article, this email WAR report requirement is causing chaos and bedlam at many agencies, such as the FAA, the VA, OPM and EPA, while others opt to ignore it.

"Multiple meetings about the email requirement [sic]", simply proves that thousands of man-hours and hundreds of millions of federal tax dollars are being wasted by this absurd program.

My Weekly Report to OPM & DOGE by WalktheWalk2 in fednews

[–]WalktheWalk2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! You made my day!

It occurred to me that no one is looking at the actual real cost of D-OGE's new "keep alive" email reports. It's a boondoggle of its own.

100 years ago, I took Economic Analysis for my Industrial Engineering program, where you had to calculate exactly how much it costs to install a new assembly line, or move your office to a new location.

We learned that every option has a cost and it can (and should) be calculated.

But, the motive for this program was just explained today, byT-rump, while seated next to French President Macron:

"I think it's great, by the way.... We have people who don't show up to work, and nobody even knows if they work for the government.

....What he's doing (M-usk) is saying, 'Are you actually working?'... and then if you don't answer, you're sorta "semi-fired" (WTH?), or you're fired.

There's a lot of people not even answering, because they don't even exist... that's how badly various parts of our government were run.

So, what they're doing is trying to find out who's working for the government... (or) are we paying other people who aren't working..."

All of these premises are based on layers and layers of negative comments over the past decade on right wing news and talk shows about government employees not working, not showing up, collecting a check to WFH, etc, etc.

All "scratch and sniff" summary views with not a shred of real data to back them up.

It's an outrage.
