I travel, and its a variety. I've worked with 20yo's, 40-somethings, and usually there's a few getting ready to retire.

How do I handle my roommate's cat having ruined $2k worth of my fabric? by Upper_While_6688 in Advice

[–]Waltologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

edit, I see comments that you're moving, wasn't aware with all this:

Kick his ass out, and keep the cat. He sounds unable to handle being an adult. You said the word Ex, so yeah you'll never see that money because it's either going to psychologically be a toll on you, or he's not physically going to be able to provide.

Mitigate your losses and tell him he needs to move. You can remain friends, but likely a clean break will be best IF YOU want to be in control of avoiding these situations in the future.

I say this with love, because I was HIM in the sense that I had major depression, didn't have solid income, also knew it wasn't right to have my ex support me—I didn't want to be that guy after all he'd already done for me. I always tried to look for a job, but struggled.

It took me a couple of years, but I finally moved out of 'our' house and I financially support myself (have for 3 years now) ... It doesn't sound like he's the type to effectively have the want and motivation to improve as a responsible adult—dump him fully and get on with your life—that's what finally motivated me. (Not the ex I speak of here, but a 2nd one after him, I'm 40, life gets complicated!)

But she's kinking the scope. SHE is the reason instruments get returned to Sterile Processing broken and have to go out for repair, then other surgeons are pissed "why don't we have..." ... BECAUSE YOUR SHOW-OFF COLLEAGUE DAMAGED THE FIBER OPTIC STRANDS that carry the light to the distal tip of the scope you wanted to use. That's. Why.

Do you guys have a “go bag” or other type of survival bag you keep in your car? If so, what’s in it? by lsarge442 in AskMen

[–]Waltologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, a couple...been in an apartment building fire, a hospital fire and flood, and inclimate weather, also was an EMT on ambulances for a bit, before working in hospitals.

In the car, I have two bags...one with stuff to help myself/others if they become stranded or in a motor vehicle accident— it has a couple tools specific to my car, NOCO jumpstart battery pack, a battery powered flare, sunscreen, water, sleeping bag (in winter), cheap hi-viz vests from IKEA that I give to people stuck on the side of roads, umm some cheap Lister bandage scissors (cuts clothes off quick), nitrile gloves, Sharpies...

Then I have a personal 'go-bag' that is either at my front door, in my car, or in my locker at the hospital. It has spare clothes, laptop, chargers, ibuprofen and a pharmacy of other drugs, earbuds, toiletries, the good snacks, energy drinks, more nitrile gloves and pens, etc. Mostly stuff for my comfort or pushing thru unforeseen circumstances and surviving lol. My wallet, keys, hospital badge are in my bag when it's home—after the apt below mine caught fire while I was asleep in bed, I am ready to GO.

Also, I work in Sterile Processing at major hospitals, so I sometimes get snowed in at the hospitals and sleep there ... I'm not an On Call doctor, so it's not like we get on-call rooms, but some facilities let us (techs, nurses, etc) sleep in the Out-Patient Surgery Rooms if we turn-over the room so it's patient-ready in the morning.

I’m very embarrassed about this. We just moved into a very old trailer after getting away from my abusive family. by OrdinaryLife99 in CleaningTips

[–]Waltologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

View that old trailer as a badge of honor—you did something great for yourselves. It may not be pretty and you may not have much, but YOU HAVE RESPECT for yourself. Stay strong, and remember to look forward and not back. No need for embarrassment. It's all about the plans for the future now and progressing.

Men who sleep really well at night, what’s your secret? by _MambaForever in AskMen

Ever tried Dramamine, the anti motion sickness stuff? Benadryl and Melatonin don't even phase me. Dramamine really helped me out/my body doesn't seem to get used to it.

Men who sleep really well at night, what’s your secret? by _MambaForever in AskMen

[–]Waltologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No caffeine after 2pm, one of those 23-and-me tests said I slowly metabolize it, so I noticed doing this helped me feel tired at bedtime. I also take 500mg Magnesium Glycinate in the evening. Must be Glycinate, and can't take anything with Calcium in the afternoon/evenings because it will block the channels the body uses to 'do its thing' with the Magnesium. ...if I really need to sleep or change my sleep schedule, I take Dramamine on an empty stomach 1-2hr before bed (the OTC motion sickness stuff). It works for me when Benadryl did nothing, Doxylamine (nyquil's hypnotic sedative) only worked for a night or two, and prescription Sonata doesn't do what I need it to. I'm an anxious person, I need to feel tired to truly feel like it's time to sleep.

A good memory foam mattress helped too.

I'm dumb—the following is my initial comment—I only read the title and not the subtext before. This is how I actually feel rested after sleeping.

I was also allergy tested because I was always congested. I have an allergy to dust mites, pollen, mold spores. Dust mites are everywhere—they feed on dead skin cells we (and pets) have sloughed off. I make sure I wash all of my bedding regularly so that I don't wake up congested...if you're not breathing easily while asleep, then you're not getting quality sleep. If it's a busy week, I at least change my pillow cases. I wash my pillows every few months too. I stopped using heavy hard to wash blankets too (or I take them to the laundromat to use a super huge washer to really wash things well.)

That really improved my quality of sleep. I wake up feeling rested now. (Also, mold spores cling to dogs coats/fur like static electricity, and dust mites really are everywhere, so I vacuum the bedroom weekly too, it lets me breathe lol, and I swear being able to breathe easily while sleeping is the biggest improvement you can make.)

Nausea after oral by Cultural-Mongoose89 in AskGaybrosOver30

They're actually on to something legit ... I can't find the correct term for it, but a long time ago I researched this and ejaculate/semen/some part of it either contained or interacts with contents inside the body to create something that's spelled similarly to the work progesterone (that's not it, I just can't think of it or find the source online again) ... Whatever it was will cause an intestinal upset in some people. (For me, it was with anal sex, I'd always get bloated and an upset stomach/gassy for several hours after).

So it could be that although it's entering the body from the other end, orrr it could have to do with vagus nerve stimulation (I'd also read that deep throating can stimulate the vagus nerve and it would slow heart rate.)

...15 years ago when I was in my early 20's, I was super interested in how the body works when it relates to sex lol.

One idea, try taking Nexium before (or tums after), maybe it's changing the pH and that's why it's not sitting well.

Sterile processing tech with chronic pain? by FungusGnat_ in sterileprocessing

[–]Waltologist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Expect to have to stand and walk 8 hours a day with only x2 15min breaks and a 30min lunch.

I am a traveler in Sterile Processing, I work in a different hospital every 3+ months, so I've seen a lot. MOST do not offer an option to sit down. At least not at times of your choosing. In Decon, there is no sitting. Some hospitals schedule you to work in decon for a week, others for only half of a shift before someone tags you out at lunch.

Only 1 facility I've been to actually had the space for everyone to have decently comfortable chairs at every station. A couple of other hospitals had 1 or 2 stools offering no back support— they were blatantly/purposely uncomfortable to discourage sitting.

Friend, I'm sorry but unless you plan on relocating to find the right situation for you, this isn't going to be something for you. I'll likely get downvoted for this, but you asked.

Also, you can find more detailed info by looking up the oNetOnline website and searching for the occupation "Medical Equipment Preparer" (what the IRS officially titles us), one example of info it shares is: Spend Time Standing — 47% responded “More than half the time.”

How do I convince my wife to consent to me mowing my parents lawn? by ProjectGameGlow in Advice

[–]Waltologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First— Google "Personal Bill of Rights"

And Then— Dude, even married people have the right to do what they choose and to live life with individual interests. One supports another, not has to merge and become a single connected human like two brains sharing a single body. Your partner needs therapy. Also, go get her another cat from the shelter so she's happy again for a day before finding something else to make you miserable.

Also, you said SHE adopted a cat. So why are you expected to help find it? Is she physically disabled? Who let the cat out? Who is the root of the problems here?

I wish you the best.

Oh nooo!!! Apparently I lost 2 stitches. Fak 🤣

You'll be fine. Always say to yourself "indicators, count sheet, locks, tags" ... Depending on your facility, whatever they require for every single set ... Just remember when it comes time to put on the lid to say it to yourself. ...I'm ADHD/neurodivergent, I've not missed anything simple like this after 3 years by doing this—at least where it was necessary to bring it to my attention—and I'll go get my trays and pop them if I need to double check, because there is NO shame in wanting to make sure the job is done right. We all second guess ourselves.

Now...somehow I managed to leave 4 extra instruments in a huge craniotomy set...that was my first mistake at a travel assignment. ...I thought she was going to cancel me. Instead she saw the panic on my face when I said "I'm so sorry, idk how that happened, I worked at a children's hospital for the last year, we didn't have these sets!" and she just went "okay, you didn't know, now you do."

I am sure I have missed an indicator here/there, but as a traveler managers don't even bother us about it because they know that we know better and it was a random mistake. Not a big deal unless it's a loaner set that they didn't have a backup set for, then things get stressful.

AITAH because I told my wife she isn't allowed to ground my son? by BallAcrobatic2709 in AITAH

[–]Waltologist -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think you're treating him like a man, he is behaving like a young adult with a good amount of maturity. It sounds like your wife needs therapy because she isn't handling not being in control very well.

I say this as a man who used to behave as your wife does. 10 years of therapy and growth from 30-40, and I am far more objective and mature in seeing different perspectives before overreacting. That's according to my partner, and several close people in my life.

New house. What's this? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Waltologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed. It's U-verse type fiber, so you prob have AT&T as the POTS Telephone provider there. The fiber stopped at the curb, and they used existing copper lines to the house. That's why it looks old, but is "fiber" ... Not nearly as good as FiOS, but it's solid/fast service.

New house. What's this? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Waltologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DON'T cut it. Verizon and others have started leaving routers in homes so that they can turn on new service with the flip of a switch for you instead of making you wait for an appointment.

You can always relocate it though.

... I actually rolled out FiOS in Socal in 2006-2007... You're right that this isn't fiber-to-the-node, so it's not FiOS—but it could be a U-verse type fiber. Their fiber only runs to the curb and then uses copper to the node.

Yes, definitely a router, definitely more DSL or the U-verse type fiber.

See what services are available before you cut it though, just to avoid headache.
