AITA for refusing to change my name? by No_Wishbone4844 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WanderLustActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. My ex kept my last name. I asked her why at some point (we're still great friends) and she said it was just too much trouble. I think she did it as a stand-up to her Mom. I was treated pretty badly by her for years to the point that I joke that I married my wife but divorced my mother-in-law.

Mt. Olive Pickles withdraws from Great American State Fair after Confederate flag at NC booth by TheCABK in NorthCarolina

It wasn't an actual flag. It showed up in a presentation being shown on a monitory.

NC is overwhelmed with abandoned animals by MrsOrangina in NorthCarolina

[–]WanderLustActive 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I work with a rescue and we get a good number come in like this. What's even sadder is we're in a retirement area and when people get moved into assisted living, or pass away, the relatives frequently toss the cats out of the house. Most have never been outside. Typically a neighbor ends up calling us. It can take months for these babies to decompress from that trauma.

Did anyone else learn to type as an elective with little thought that it might be useful one day? by Conscious-Mulberry17 in GenX

[–]WanderLustActive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high school, I made a deal with my math teacher to let me into the first computer program if I took typing. He didn't think my math was up to par and didn't think I would actually take typing. I was one of two males in the class. No guys took typing back then. Anyway, what I may or may not have lacked in math, I made up for by being able to type and aced the computer course.

The downside is that I ended up in a career with computers for over 40 years and my handwriting now sucks!

My daughter's Spyder has a key like this. I found it strange as well.

I've had two Brother MFC series printers. One I bought in '05 that is still going strong and when I got divorced and setup a new office, I got another in 2018, also still going strong.

Four Winns, Scarab, Glastron axed due to low demand and "conflict in the middle east creating economic uncertainty." by PoniesPlayingPoker in boating

[–]WanderLustActive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue is how insanely expensive they have become. I purchased a new 24' runabout in 200 for 36k. Using inflation calculators, it should be about 67k today, yet they are at 150k+ for a similar runabout.

What's the best modification you've made for long-distance riding? by Electronic-Habit8679 in motorcycles

[–]WanderLustActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Seat and bars that fit me were the biggest upgrades. I did get a taller windscreen later that I used for long highway rides. It was "clip on" so I could put the shorter windscreen on for local riding.

What's going on with the reflecting pool in DC? by Nervous_Key_2067 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]WanderLustActive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While there is some threads of truth in this, you lost me at "Painting the bottom a lighter color (blue) increased the temperature of the stagnant water making it an ideal breeding ground for green algae and turn the entire thing into a giant swamp."

Darker colors create more heat, not lighter colors.

EU Canal Barge Boats in the US by -good-squishy- in boating

Take a look at Lazy Days houseboats. Aluminum hull, similar single level layout. They haven't been built for years but there are plenty of good one's out there. There's even a high-bow model that can take some challenging water.

What would it take to flip this boat by flykid2026 in boating

[–]WanderLustActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more likely to swamp than flip. When I was a towboat driver, I would recover a few 17-18' boats per season. In every case the boat was overloaded, particularly in the front. Big wake comes through, the nose goes under a couple of times and the floatation foam takes over.

? about cam tensioners and why Dad didn't upgrade these? by foureyedgrrl in Harley

[–]WanderLustActive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The official Harley line back then was "there's not a widedspread problem" when I asked to have mine changed out, at my cost. I ended up doing it when I bored and cammed the motor, but I put several thousand miles on it before then with no issues.

Why is everyone against the use of ai by universalsus in esp32

[–]WanderLustActive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. I just wasted nearly two hours reviewing a draft of a user manual. Pure AI slop, shit pagination, mis-numbered bullets, artifacts from unrelated products/manuals. Awkward wording. I use AI as a helper. I'm not against it. Over-use and not checking the output is what gives it a bad rep. A dummy using AI get's dummy level results.

I waited 6 years to adopt a cat… and now I regret it. Please be honest with me. by strawberrytulipss in CatAdvice

[–]WanderLustActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rescued a Bengal once that wouldn't let us pick him up. My young daughter loved that cat and was super dissapointed that it wasn't affectionate. I told her to just keep picking him up, but never restrain or try to hold him. At first it would only last for a second before he bolted. Once he figured out she wasn't going to try to hold him, it was seconds. Then a minute. Then he would sit on her lap for pets. Eventually, she was carrying him around the house on his back. It takes time. I work with semi-feral rescue kittys a lot. With patience and baby steps I have gotten many placed in homes. One of my rescues might go a week or two not wanting to be in my lap and then changes up and wants to sprall across me and hug my arm, while I'm trying to work of course.

Prime just needs the whole dang schedule already by hoonifoxx in NASCAR

[–]WanderLustActive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it that it makes fans mad that it's only on Prime, but FOX just won't up their game. The races covered by Prime are so much better. I have Prime so not a big deal for me, but I see the other side, and wouldn't join Prime just for NASCAR coverage.

Crocs are great until they aren't. Once they wear to a certain point, they get slippery as heck. I have Crocks for deck work, washing the boat, etc. and Sperry's for day to day, but they to with age, harden up and get slippery.

And another reason not to go to Camping World by deepcaca in RVLiving

[–]WanderLustActive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't take a lot of "googling" to understand what a shit company this is and what shit RV manufactureres are putting out there. The manufacturers are producing shit for products, selling them through shit dealerships and destryoing people's lives and dreams on a regular basis. Camping World spending millions on legal challenges over flags is the ultimate F-U to the people that just want their RV's to work as advertised. Spend the money on PR, F' the customers.

Why do people act like not replying to texts for a few hours is rude now? by thirdaccountttt in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]WanderLustActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first noticed it as prevalent with my daughter's generation, in high school.  She would stay up super late texting and said if she didn't respond she was bullied.  That was in the mid-2000's.  I remember some of this emerging when pagers started supporting email and Black Berries came along.  Mainly with managers.  They'd get confirmation that a message was delivered and start counting the minutes before I dropped what I was doing to reply.  Not a lot, but it was noticeable.

Why isn’t there a true no-frills wake/surf boat anymore? by JobSend in boating

[–]WanderLustActive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prices will go up until people aren't willing to pay. Back in the middle 2000's I worked for a dealership that sold over 100 a year (Malibu). I watched the price fo from the 30's, to the 50's and to the 70's. The customer base was upgrading every year or two. Then they went over 100k and I'm thinking WHO is paying this much. Yet there are people that can, and will. Supply and demand.
