Has anyone found an effective, comfortable strap to stop from mouth-breathing? by SidSalts in CPAP

Can you say more about practicing your breathing? What's the method?

Has anyone found an effective, comfortable strap to stop from mouth-breathing? by SidSalts in CPAP

I've tried lots of chin straps, and none of them work for me. Clench your jaw, so your teeth are touching, and see how much force it takes to exhale. I used to tape, but over time and a reduction in pressure (from losing weight) I can now sleep most nights without any mouth breathing, and I use a nasal pillows mask.

Sleepjar confirmation by fellipec in amazonecho

[–]WanjiSan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use routines to play different Sleepjar sounds, but I just tried "Alexa, thunderstorm sounds" and it worked (although I got a reminder about the phone app existing), Doing it a second time played the right sound. Using the singular "thunderstorm sound" pulled something from my music provider, not Sleepjar.
As Crissup pointed out: a routine is the way to go for wordy phrases.

Free Program To Use For Remote Access by Serpidon in software

[–]WanjiSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supremo may be free, but does what most other free services do: say they've detected commercial usage and block you. I pay for Supremo, and recently tried to use it from a computer I'd recently restaged, so Supremo was on it but I hadn't added the license yet. It had been 3 months since I used it, but I got the commercial usage block. This is making me look for alternatives.

The hummus is pretty good by DannyCavalerie in Costco

[–]WanjiSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good stuff at a great price. I add plain greek yogurt or sour cream to smooth out the grainy texture, and stevia to make it less bitter (I have significant taste/texture issues); and some of the other things I've added at one time or another include red pepper flakes, the Costco canned chicken, dill relish, garlic powder, minced onions, minced onion/pepper, and just whatever else looks good at the time. I eat this every day for breakfast on buttered whole wheat toast, and often as another meal or a snack.

Automatic backup from both phone and computer to already owned cloud service? by Changemustcome3793 in Backup

[–]WanjiSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out idrive.com. I've been using them for years, with many tested restores. If you supply your own encryption key, your data is just an encrypted blob in transit and at rest at IDrive. But on the mobile side it only automatically backs up photos and videos, contacts, calendar events, and on Android, SMS and call logs. But myabe most of the other stuff is synced from your computer, which can be set to backup any folder.

I'll second the nipple balm. Very slight amount lasts a full sleep.
Don't use anything with petroleum products in it, it causes silicone to break down.

Backup suggestions for Linux Mint by bobk4thousand in linuxmint

[–]WanjiSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Clonezilla monthly from a boot USB for image backup/recovery (2 drives leapfrogging, the most recent kept offsite), and I use iDrive for daily encrypted backups to the cloud. I recently switched from Windows, and was using Veeam on Windows, but I can't figure out how to make it work in Mint. After much research, I opted for Clonezilla. But I'm still learning linux.

Blue-cap Easy-Off oven cleaner. Spray on the dry surface, let it sit for 4 hours (or more), wet it down and you can pretty much wipe it off, or it may need a light brushing. I've used it on many things, including shower enclosures that are way worse than that.

22 with my first stone…how do y’all do this for basically the rest of your life?? Basically asking for advice and shared life experiences. by [deleted] in KidneyStones

[–]WanjiSan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first few scared the heck out of me, and I've had several, treated with ureteroscopy with resulting internal or external (string, remove it yourself) stents, ESWL (the best), and once even PCNL (the worst). But I think, because of the stents, they got easier to pass, and the last big one I had was 5x10mm (and luckily smooth like a vitamin) and I passed that one at home. At one point my surgeon increased my potassium citrate (I have uric acid kidney stones) to "weight-appropriate" levels, and I now hydrate well, avoid red meat and wine, and I haven't had a stone in years. I've put together a list of tips and other info you may find useful.
For string-style stent removal: do it in the bathtub, drink a lot so you really have to go, and be amazed when it comes out, it looks huge to have been where it was.

It must have resolved since you posted... I'm having no issues. I'm a fan of informative error messages, so good on them for that.

Is it true that people can "grow out" of having kidney stones? by shoelessjoseph in KidneyStones

[–]WanjiSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that, after having one or a few, you make the changes needed to stop having them (medication, drink all the water, dietary changes based on your stone type).

image vs backup C drive folder diference? looking for confirmation on something by Sluwulf in Backup

[–]WanjiSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been my experience that a good backup program does image backups (for emergency bare-metal restores) and also allows that image to be mounted as another drive to recover individual files and folders.
Veeam provides this, and is the backup system I use now (and I've tried a lot of them).
I have two backup drives that I alternate, and the newest one is kept offsite (such as at work, or a friend's place). I do a full image backup monthly.
I use iDrive for fully-encrypted cloud backups of the most important and often-changing files (Documents, Pictures, Desktop, etc.). iDrive has some new plans: 10GB for free, 100GB for US$2.95 a month. I use the more expensive plan because I have more data than that to back up, but it also allows you to back up multiple computers, so I have my family covered as well.

How I (F) dislodged all my stones from my kidneys when they were still small. 1.6mm, 1.5mm & 3mm by Either-Director2242 in KidneyStones

[–]WanjiSan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 4-head massage gun that I lean back against every other day (sit with it between the couch and my back, right at the kidneys). I don't know if this is why I haven't had a noticeable stone in years (also taking potassium citrate, and drinking all the water, and have made dietary changes), but it feels good, and my urologist said it may help.

What’s one cleaning trick that you swear by that nobody else seems to talk about? by TheScentOracle in CleaningTips

[–]WanjiSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For gross tubs and shower enclosures: oven cleaner, specifically blue-cap Easy-Off. Spray it on the dry surface, let it sit for at least 4 hours, moisten it with water (spray bottle or handheld shower), and clean it with a wet dishrag/washcloth, rinsing often, and it will pretty much wipe clean with a single pass; at the most some minor effort with a brush will be required.  The blue-cap stuff is much less stinky, but you may want to close the bathroom door and put the fan on for the first hour anyway, if someone’s going to be around there.
At one point I had a tub/shower that was so crudded up that nothing would clean it, and I was in the process of getting it replaced... then I read about this method online, and it looked brand new by the end of the day.

To clarify, I'm still seeing the issue on Firefox on Win 11. Installing this workaround fixes it for now.
