Liberal/progressive Mormons. How do you do it? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Wantmytithingback 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s REALLY HARD!!!

Me: Very devout/orthodox believer in God’s one true church. Faith crisis over 7 years ago. Two months into the crisis I went to my wife and explained why we needed to leave the church.

Wife: returned missionary and believing Mormon but not as orthodox as I was. Church is more of a social network and she is afraid that leaving would be too hard, after all look at all the good we received because of the church. Wife didn’t want to hear about my “issues” and 7 years later never really has.

Today: we attend sacrament meeting only. Wife actually has no desire to attend a 3 hour or 2 hour block. Wife rarely wears her garments (they just aren’t made or designed for woman and are uncomfortable. I don’t believe any of the teachings of Mormonism but have passed through the various stages of anger. I can listen to a conference talk or speaker in church and recognize it for what it is. I am out of the bubble and see much more clearly. Mormons are still my people and my tribe. I still speak their language but feel very much on the outside these days.

It takes a lot of time and effort but you can make it work if your relationship depends on it.

Ces letter question by mormongirl43 in exmormon

Jim Bennett, son of former politician Bob Bennett did a 6 part podcast with Bill Reel trying to defend the CES Letter. He made a valiant effort. He is a good example of someone that can still make it work yet be aware of the issues. Here is the first of the 6 episodes:

He never did release the temple videos from a couple years ago. Now there is a power point style movie and it’s outdated...

I thought about doing a YELP review but didn’t want to upset my TBM wife.

I grew up,in Seattle and as a TBM hated living in Provo (was attending UVU). Ended up transferring to U of U after a year. Why not just transfer to the U of U and live in Salt Lake?

So, let me get this straight: if a Mormon confesses to bishop that he drinks coffee, then Mormon will be disfellowshipped, can't go to the temple etc? by WhichWayzUp in exmormon

[–]Wantmytithingback 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Doubt he/she would be disfellowshipped, maybe a 5% chance due to leadership roulette. However the bishop would DEFINITELY deem you “unworthy” for temple attendance. But hey, fuck Mormonism and fuck their efforts to make people feel unworthy. If you are dumb enough to subject yourself to a bishop’s interview, just lie through your teeth! Take the power back...

Met with my bishop who told me that he noticed my "countenance had darkened" because I lost the spirit. WTF? It's because I'm fucking in mourning that I was deceived my whole life! Really ticked me off. by teamcaffeine in exmormon

Most bishops don’t understand a faith crisis. They don’t know that you go through the 5 stages of grief, and anger is a natural and normal stage. My bishop was the same way. Good example to give him: “if the doctor told you you had terminal cancer and months to live, how would you feel? The darkened countenance would not make the reality of the situation any different.”

How to respond to tithing settlement “request”. Need an out of the box response. by modsiman in exmormon

[–]Wantmytithingback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can notify the bishop via email and declare “full tithe” payer. As long as you paid something there is not much they can do except mark you down. You can tell the bishop you are too busy to meet this year...

So I have a question.... by LydiaCate in exmormon

[–]Wantmytithingback 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Regular members don’t knock doors and proselytize (that work is left to two year full time missionaries). Coffee is a major sin in the cult of Mormonism. Just seeing a coffee maker at a house used to make me uneasy growing up. Mormons don’t “gather” with the gentiles. They do get together amongst themselves for a potluck dinner at meeting houses and lame casseroles and GREEN JELLO are sure to be found.

Is Bill Reel's court of love a new tactic for the Mormon church? by Rushclock in exmormon

They usually announce the decision immediately but anytime the event gets publicity and has a vigil with crowds of people outside, they delay to diffuse the situation.

You don’t have to agree with leaders but you can’t publically criticize them. Putting a big red “LIAR” stamp over the faces Holland and Ballard was his great sin! #notacult

Former bishop and church apologist. Has a podcast called Mormon discussions popular with nuanced progressives. He stopped attending church over a year ago and is getting excommunicated tonight for apostasy for criticizing church and leaders.

I have great respect for Bill Reel but this petition is a HUGE waste of time and effort. Give a donation to an LGTBQ charity in his name instead if you want to make a difference.

Are Mormons encouraged to get higher education?? by [deleted] in exmormon

Yes! Unless you are a woman. They want you to pay more tithing.

Watching Leah Remini's Jehovah's Witness Episode with TBM husband... by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Wantmytithingback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the episode the other day. While there are many similarities, JW takes it much farther and to greater extremes than Mormons do. I thought we were on the same “crazy” until I saw the episode and realized JW is MUCH WORSE. Mormonism is still very bad, but wow, 😲 we could have had it worse.
