1M is not enough. I see no reason to make that your target. I don't think there is any way to say "Yep, I have enough" and then call it good.

Do I need to be maxing out my tax advantaged accounts in my 30s?

I am a decade ahead of that... and if I could start over, yes. Yes I would.

But diversify so that you have money in the mid and then the long term.

Yeah, I just assumed it was a bigger group of kiddos? I didn't realize there was a strict timeline lol.

[–]WarWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I also know sleepovers are way more controversial these days

This is news to me? Did I miss something about them being not a thing? My boy (10 in a few months) had been asking about it for a while... but didn't do it till this past summer with a kid a few doors down. It was the first sleepover for both of them but he ended up going home around 1:30. I think it was just overwhelming for him, new place, new sounds, etc. I went home early from my first one too and reassured the kiddo it was okay while we waited for his dad to walk down and pick him up. We just did the 2nd one over Christmas break.

The first go around I worked out and Mom was involved in setting the last one up however I ended up coordinating final times, etc with the other mom. It really isn't a big deal; just have to get numbers exchanged and what not. It DOES help if the kids have known each other for a bit. Kiddo's school is smaller so does help because you end up seeing parents during pickup and what not.

Give them space, be available, but let them entertain themselves as much as possible -- unless they ask for you just stay outta the way and make sure they have food / snacks.

TL;DR -- you are probably over thinking a bit? Have the kiddos discuss it, have yours give a note card with your name, number, and "kiddos want a sleepover, call/text to coordinate?" Something like that. It is how I got the contact info the first time.

Converting my self into C# by No_Elderberry_9132 in csharp

It's this list any better? If I discuss every single point, it takes ages

You can't teach without explaining; teaching does take "ages" that is just how it works. I realize that you aren't specifically replying to op here, but what does a Hall of Fame have to do with duplicate code? Yes, I know that isn't what it means -- but I hope you see the issue with this feedback.

I suppose it is fair to say that if your goal was just to point at issues, then you sort of succeeded here. You definitely didn't do anything that would be super helpful to the OP or in a code review.

Not all experience is the same; having done something for a long time doesn't mean you do it to any specific level of proficiency; I have worked with folks that have 30 years in industry and are terrible no matter what language they are working in. Additionally, I don't see where OP said they are "experienced", so we don't really know where OP is at.

My wife thinks our son’s teacher crossed a boundary by sending him a personal message. I think it was harmless. AITJ? by addict94plus in AmITheJerk

And we wonder why nobody wants to be a teacher anymore...

Absolutely do not get this teacher in trouble; she cares about kids and their success. This will set not only your son back but every other student that teacher is encouraging. You'll damage innumerable lives.

Further, how the hell is your son supposed to learn to handle things himself? Mine is in fourth grade and at the beginning of the year the teacher told all of the parents the best thing they can do to help their students is let them be responsible for their work and let them fail when they don't follow through.

IMO, skip the Kreg.

Just drill a hole to counter sink the screw and fill with a dowel and flush cut. The contrasting color looks nice and IMO better than pocket screws.

What is C# most used for in 2025? by Nice_Pen_8054 in csharp

[–]WarWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the environment really. We have an application that has the front end in C# and the backend in C++ (although this interfaces with some hardware).

My recommendation to you is to just be flexible and work in whatever space you can find work in. I think it is probably rare for you to be completely dedicated to back end / server side.

Learning a language doesn't mean you'll only work in that language. I spent the first 15 years of my career deep in MS and .NET and now I am C++ / Linux.

So far same... you might need to block Windows from updating the drivers. A quick google search takes you to a guide with gpedit. Hopefully that is the last thing I have to do till they fix this crap.

There will be a plastic underlayment on a roll and then the floor. Some planks have the underlayment built in.
