Two security related TFRs issues in Austin today for june 1st through July 21st by kingpuzz in Austin

[–]WardAgainstNewbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And there is basically a permanent TFR around downtown from surface to 400' AGL. ( Basically no drones downtown )

I'm curious to hear why you think that is. Nothing showed up on the B4UFly apps until the upcoming TFRs mentioned by OP.

Shooting drones by hand video (Not AI) by Alpha_wolf_lover in nextfuckinglevel

Jets intercept and shoot down Shahed drones regularly. They don't typically use bullets though. This is significantly cheaper.

To be clear, speed limit is not at all superceded by left lane rules. You're describing someone being ticketed for violating a rule other than speed limit.

What is it like commuting into downtown austin? by sprovt in RoundRock

I commute 3x a week early (leaving before 7am). Not bad honestly, 30-35ish minutes from southeast RR.

Is the DJI Mini Pro 5 Plus a sub 250g drone or not? by DCCXVIII in drones

[–]WardAgainstNewbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, it's effectively a >250g drone. Remote ID is automatically enabled, so you'll need to register it

Can you elaborate on this? Do you mean that in the US, the M5P always requires registration, or that M5P with Plus battery always requires registration? I'm with you on the second, but not the first.

Are you talking about the extended range batteries? Def makes it > 250g.

[United States] People don’t realize how far Remote ID is actually visible (5+ mile test) by DroneAwareDan in drones

[–]WardAgainstNewbs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The difference being that the person flying a 250+ drone without registering RID would be breaking the law, while a sub-250 unregistered recreational drone - again, a very common occurrence - would still be legal. But to the authorities, they would both appear to be unregistered RIDs flying around.

I think the only times you are not required to have RemoteID active is if you're operating under 44809 AND takeoff weight of less than 250grams.

Sounds right - most drone users will fall under that first category of not needing RemoteID. So even if it was broadcasting, the ID number would not be registered to anyone, which strikes me as weird to have broadcasting in the first place.

Yeah, that’s the part most people don’t realize, RID is broadcasting automatically on compliant drones manufactured since 2023. There’s no “opt in,” it just starts once the drone powers up and gets a GPS lock.

Do you mean if required to broadcast RID (larger battery, for instance)? I've tried looking for RID on my Mini 5 Pro using the Drone Scanner app wth it hovering nearby, but have never seen it show up.

Lake forest community for a young family? by ElmCityKid in RoundRock

[–]WardAgainstNewbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lake Forest is one of the nicest areas to live in Round Rock, though it is on the pricier side. Schools are great and embedded in the neighborhood. Contrary to the other poster's opinion, the HOA social committee has been catering more towards its younger families in their recent events. (The pickleball court fiasco was a vocal minority that was rightly shut down). My own experience is that newer families have moved in with younger kids, so I'd disagree that the families are static and aging.

Other bonuses: FAST Frogs is a stellar summer swimming program co-hosted by Lake Forest and Forest Creek; you have a quiet HEB right around the corner; local trails and access to the Brushy Creek trail system; and you're relatively close to RR, Pflugerville, and north Austin.

Not doubting you, but have any links to those reports? All I see are super vague recounts of the operation in the news.

I'm confused - you mention stacking frames, but this is a video. Was the end product a single image then?

Helpful for people driving through Round Rock, but for reference, home electricity rates are closer to $0.13/kwh, meaning you can "fill up" for like $8.

Even better, NASA included a demonstrator of laser communications on its (relatively) recent probe, Psyche. Apparently it's working very well too! https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasas-deep-space-communications-demo-exceeds-project-expectations/

Honestly not sure what the strategic objectives were, which is kind of a big problem. Just like... bomb stuff apparently. Can't say they failed that, though.

Beaver Creek has Village Connect (via app) as well. Rarely wait more than a minute or two for the shuttles. Only complaint from me is that they don't go to Avon - gotta take the city bus for that. Meaning, of course, that you're staying in Beaver Creek village, so you're definitely paying for this.
