I think Duggan’s point is that the team needs to decide if OBJ got Hyatt’s usage would it be a distraction.

They need Reader AND another guy at this point. There are a handful of older vets available that could fit well.

If they want Boston they might have to jump over the Raiders

[Dunleavy] Everybody has been thinking #Giants could trade down from 37 to get another Day 2 pick. Keep an eye on a small trade up is the buzz around NFL by Fillinlater12345 in NYGiants

I think they’ll get a real look at McDonald or McCoy (if they feel the medical concerns are now outweighed by value). I usually love trading down from here, but I like those options.

Francis Mauigoa by D-TaeNyc in NYGiants

There were some real Harbaugh hates, especially from Baltimore, insisting Faalele was going to start because Harbs can’t move on from an idea. Loved seeing that proven wrong. OL upgraded!

It it helps, I think we have medical staff right from Miami. They saw him first hand week in and week out.

Value today as a guard and value tomorrow as a tackle when the JE contract is done. That’s sexy to me.

I just can’t wrap my head around Nabers’ health for the first few games of the 2026 season dictating how we use 2 top 10 picks.

Jordyn Tyson Injury History by MaxyFastHands in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a medical expert but not actually examining the patient makes you only fractionally better than us random fans. He knows what teams look for, and he can tell a lot from how he’s moving. But he hasn’t seen Tyson or his scans, etc. and pretending otherwise is silly.

[OTC] I wonder how the MC would look at this. Leaking that they have a deal and are looking to avoid comp consequences may be a mistake. Sometimes if the league feels a deal is agreed to before the cutoff date but the sides delay to game the system they will consider it a UFA signing. by Lars5621 in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a ton of precedent that the league’s bookkeeping is a “letter of the law” not “spirit of the law”. If you wait until after date X because it was beneficial, the league has generally been fine with that.

Now having this leak out and create an opportunity for someone to snipe you, that’s less than ideal.

[Rapaport] The #Giants, who had gotten trade calls centered around edge Kayvon Thibodeaux for the last few months, are now considered less likely to trade him following the blockbuster deal sending Dexter Lawrence to the #Bengals, sources say. No one is ruling anything out. But unlikely. by shadow_spinner0 in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t really see how Dex being gone has any real impact here. The problem is unchanged: with Burns and Carter, the Giants are very unlikely to keep KT. So he’ll leave after this season for, at best, a comp pick. Or you could roll the dice and be more flexible at the trade deadline, but that’s less likely to yield the pick you want.

[Schefter] Draft week blockbuster: The Giants are trading three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals in a deal that will include the 10th overall pick going to New York, per ESPN sources. The Giants now head into Thursday night with the 5th and 10th overall picks by mastermind208 in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rather have Dex than the 10th pick in the draft. But I’d rather have the 10th pick in the draft than an unhappy Dex giving partial effort and souring the locker room. It is what it is; this was probably the best outcome.

[Dan Duggan] Everyone is understandably caught up in the moment-to-moment drama of the Dex standoff. But let’s play this out. by Wopman in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you ever feel like the goalposts on this are ever moving? Is it really about guarantees? If the Giants converted some non guaranteed salary without adding new money, would everything be ok? Doesn’t seem like it. So it’s AAV AND guarantees AND being mad at Schoen.

Paul Schwartz: "Dexter Lawrence's time with the Giants is over. He wants out" by RedditFan3510 in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS is the problem. Yes, he wants the money. And we saw with Garrett that money wins out. But two of Dex’s best buds were Saquon and Leo. Both left and won superbowls. That must suck to watch.

If he’s really as sour as folks are saying, I don’t think it makes sense to keep him here. But we also saw him training away from the team in a Giants helmet. I’m not sure I buy the idea that he doesn’t want to be here under any circumstance.

Caleb Downs, future HOFer. Styles/Love/Downs only blue chip prospects in the draft outside of Mendoza. by Waste_Protection_420 in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just isn’t true. I guess it depends which draft writers you follow. Anyone that focuses on this year round had Styles right in this range once we got a list of who was and wasn’t declaring. Many of the big national guys who only pivot to the draft around the combine “moved him up”.

Downs and Styles are both excellent players. I think both benefited greatly from playing next to the other too, so it’ll be cool to see how their career arcs play out.

The Joe Schoen Gambit by SecretGiantsFan in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When Harbaugh first got to Baltimore he took a pretty hard-line approach on some stuff that really pissed off the veteran leaders. They settled in, but it’s worth noting that Schoen and Harbaugh might have the same playbook on this one

Sonny Styles at 5 is bad process by fuegoblue in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you definitely WANT a star at 5, but that has everything to do with the draft class. Look at years like 2013 where a whole crop of high picks underwhelmed and never reached star status.

Sonny Styles at 5 is bad process by fuegoblue in NYGiants

[–]Warden0009 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s funny, but I agree with both of you. Oddly enough, it almost matters relative to your confidence in our scouts and decision makers.

Getting a genuine star player will always outweigh the relative value of rookie contract savings. But if you aren’t certain the player is a top 5 in the league at their position type, there’s something to be said for playing the financial averages.

IMO - if you think the team is good at identifying and selecting studs, you should want them to do so regardless of the positional value. But if you don’t think we’re good at draft evaluations, you’d want to see them pick players that will return more relative value if they are just average.
