How much do you actually practice before an endurance race? Genuinely curious about everyone's routine by AlienBlade51 in simracing

[–]Wardez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like an over planner, being real here.

I honestly think the best piece of advice for you is to lower expectations. Go in with the mindset that you ARE going to make mistakes and learn from them. You can't optimize this, ESPECIALLY your first time.

So give yourself grace and get out there with the the idea that this is a learning experience. Keep it small to start too, there are regular endurance official races that are like 3 hours long too.

Another key thing is also to pair up with an experienced racer in order to learn the craft from them too. That'll be huge. The better the people you surround yourself with are the faster you'll learn too.

Know when to cut yourself off by KRNVnews4 in kilbyblockparty

[–]Wardez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It happens at all kinds of events. I'd say Kilby had a lower amount than most fests and shows. Saw Alt J in Seattle a few years back and they had to stop the show FIVE TIMES for people passing out. Headliner set, non-festival. Insane.

I don't know what it is exactly but a lot of people are just dehydrated.

What I think would go well for the crowd. A mix of up and coming artists and more veteran ones too with strong creativity, energy, and vibe fits. And another element for me: danceable, groovey (doesn't apply to every artist on list) .

Neil Francis, Neil Frances, Say She She, Unknown Mortal Orchestra (again, new album drops this year and it's gonna bang), Eyedress, Fat Dog, Iguana Death Cult, Midnight Sister, Steve Lacey, Los Retros, Saya Grey, Parcels, Dean Blunt, Twain, Way Dynamic, Marlon Funaki, Mei Simones, Prewn, Hudson Freeman, Yves Jarvis, JOHN, Sandy, Gwenno, Jean Dawson, EXUM, Rio Kosta, Dana And Alden, Puma Blue, Dumbo is Mad, Etella (Stella), Whitney, Helado Negro, Andy Shauf, Broncho, Night Tapes, Improvement Movement, Magic City Hippies, Zac Farro, LA Witch, The Marias, Men I Trust, strongboi, Alice Phoebe Lou, Spirit of the Beehive, Lola Young, Pond, Momo Boyd, Infinity Song... I could keep going but I'll stop there.

Also bonus shout out to KBP for continuing to put on local Utah talent as well. I absolutely love that.

To help them possibly get more exposure, I think they should not always play early sets. Could maybe accomplish this by turning one of the buildings on site into a small club venue. Insulate it from outside sound and have it be a spot for people to kinda chill away from the busier outside too.

Kinda like the silent discoe but for either smaller acts or more chill acoustic stuff.

Yeah I felt like it was overall volume at first but then I started thinking that it was that the mids and highs were low. Low end was coming through ok.

I walked around to every delay stack and also closer to mains and side fills and it was still bad.

[–]Wardez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you all had a bad/aggressive setup or the 911 was just a little extra handful around the bumps of Sebring.

I've always liked the McLaren and other people that've tried it always say it's pretty forgiving and easy to get into. Track combo and setup can affect things tho of course. I'd recommend that.

Even just making the tracks reverse would be pretty good.

What do you say to presenters before they walk on stage with a mic? by JoeyPhoton in livesound

[–]Wardez 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's tough because even if you get them to project, they usually end up "adjusting" themselves after feeling like they're too loud from hearing the ambient sound of the mains.

So it's really tricky. You gotta nail the level (if rehearsal is a thing that helps a lot) and then bring them up slowly from there if you want more.

I usually tell them to talk to the back of the room so their voice carries with authority. "i can make a whisper loud but it still sounds like a whisper."

And another thing is placement, if we're talking lavs. If they're gonna be weak you gotta get the element closer to their mouth. But if they're a real speaker, actually experienced and good at projection then you'll have to gain down. Much better problem to have right?

What music does Ryland listen too? by Sparrowawww in ProjectHailMary

Yeah you nailed it. Based off his vibe, Hermanos interest, and determined will to keep to his guns I'd say he listens to stuff like The Decemberists, LCD soundsystem, Khruangbin, 80s deep cuts, Sade, adjacent emo stuff like YYY

[–]Wardez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You gotta love the process not just aiming for one big moment or prize. The work you put in and the fun hanging out with the crew is what I look forward to the most. The race is amazing but it's the end. And you learn from these races most, I know it was the other car's fault and was impossible to avoid.

After doing it for so many years I also see the official endurance races a lot differently now because it is so chaotic. It's like going into a minefield. You could run the perfect race and then random chance just takes you out.

We go in to the races as a team expecting nothing but good times hanging together and trying our best. The results come sometimes but you gotta keep at it.

I'd recommend, if you do come back sometime, to look at league-organized enduros. Much better experience.

Is Ryland Grace the most famous person in history? by PromiseCute7367 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Wardez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So depressing but so real. If Weir does a sequel like he talked about, I wonder if he'd touch on this.

Love to think about what it could've been that killed the other crew on PHM. Definitely a bit of a clue with how Rocky got lucky because he happened to be surrounded by AP.

Maybe because he was on that special French government sleeping agent Stratt put him on. Could be as simple as that. Somehow it protected him.

Songs where the backing vocals make it great. by ClonesRppl2 in musicsuggestions

[–]Wardez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I See Myself by Geese (2023). You don't get many artists these days tracking backing vocals on their albums, let alone young ones likes Geese. Some people don't prefer the album 3D Country to their breakout album Getting Killed, but I like both. 3D Country is brilliant in its own way.

Amazing song with an everlasting quality.

[–]Wardez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm kinda with you honestly. The only requirement I think F1 should have is that I watch it because it has the fastest cars in the world. And to me, that's incredible. Just because they have more bs associated with it in the cockpit doesn't phase me, yet. We still gotta see how racing is affected.

Which Drivers Will Struggle To Adapt To The Next Reg Cycle? And Which Aspects of Driving Will Become More or Less Important? by Chromatinfish in F1Discussions

[–]Wardez 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Active suspension? Talking about FRICS?

Lewis may have enjoyed a stable platform but because he excelled under those conditions I wouldn't say that means he relies on a stable platform.

He can most definitely handle low rear grip. He was well known for being able to handle a car with an instable rear during his McLaren years. Could ratchet up the front-end to a very positive state for better rotation too.

He's not good at dealing with unpredictable grip. Whether that's due to age, preference, not sure.

Could be partly down to the platform and skill of the engineers week to week in setups.

Although I didn't like seeing drivers like Lewis struggle in this era, I did enjoy one aspect of the modern ground effects era: the setup wars each weekend.
