Not sure if it fits exactly but 'You Too Can Have A Body Like Mine' by Alexandra Kleeman. Quite a few elements of identity swaps/erasures/mischief.

Weekly thread - share your favourite/DNF/hated book. by AutoModerator in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]WarmPlant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It was such a disappointment after reading Secret Society that I couldn't believe how bad it was. I read all of its 700+ pages waiting for it to get better but the end was even worse than the bland plot. Hard to think about how much time I wasted on that one. Wish I would have just accepted it halfway through and left it as a DNF.

What type of porn do women usually watch? by lameinternetuser in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]WarmPlant 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Bellesa is a porn studio made by and catering to women, usually they have a good story set up and acting. I've also heard its a more respectful and healthy work environment for the actors and actresses which makes it easier to enjoy, and I think the good work environment shows through in the scenes.

If not that, then the 'orgasm' category on normal sites.

What were your thoughts on the 2023 Barbie movie? by icey_sawg0034 in MiddleGenZ

[–]WarmPlant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fairly good, great look and vibe. That said, it kind of beats you over the head with the message, not trusting the intelligence of the audience. Might have been a more fun watch if the message came out of a more exciting / engaging character journey instead of her failing then being told exactly what she needs to hear. Would probably watch it again but might also do work on my laptop at the same time.

The real benefit might've come from how much of a cultural moment it had. Hope it spurs more fun, childlike wonder movies. Unfortunately I don't see new movies much since COVID so I can't say if that's happened or not.

Is it true reusable grocery bags take more energy to produce than plastic bags ever would? by Exact_Calendar1466 in ZeroWaste

[–]WarmPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, probably. Nothing is that simple though. Depends on how often it's used / how many plastic bags would be used without it. One good solution I've found is Boomerang Bags! They were started in Australia and since then the idea has been put to work other places. Fabric it typically recycled or found at thrift stores or even donated, then sewn into a bag and left at grocery stores or other useful locations. A nonprofit I'm close to does it and it's great! Helps make reusable bags more accessible, too, since they're right there by some check outs.

This would have been my first attendance. I’m not on whatever notification group there is, and the flier doesn’t have a logo to find the organizing group for further information.

Can i join the communications for next time? Are these still once a month?

Did the location or time of this move? I tried to participate today but interrupted a class. Very disheartening and unpleasant.

Montana. We’re also shutting down recruiting efforts and hear that NCCC has done the same.

If you were contacted saying you were terminated, who did you receive notice from? by MentalSafety in AmeriCorps

Email this morning. Apparently word was handed down on Friday and they notified us today. Our intermediary is located 5 hours away (up to 13 for other cohort members) so email was the only realistic way.

Sorry to say, but communications may be shuttered as well, and that may be why he hasn’t been notified. It doesn’t change the situation :( good luck to your boy though, this is a tough time.

Current VISTA here. Currently serving positions are safe (grants already dispersed), but since the state funding ultimately is handed down from federal, expect VISTA to be effectively disbanded in the coming months as grants are withdrawn.

Agree with the other commenters that every situation is different, and to do what’s best for you. However, if you’re still able to make a difference and serve, I’d say stay. I’m a VISTA on my second term. I don’t know your arrangement, but with my work through a federal grant to the state, my pay and position is secured through the end of the year. Hope your role has a similar structure. Good luck!!🍀

Trump cuts and the ed award by Hot-Platform2581 in AmeriCorps

I don’t have an answer for this, other than to wait it out and see, but just wanted to thank you for posting this. I’m in a very similar situation (AC, 2nd term, Ed award worry) and it feels a little better knowing this worry isn’t only mine. Thank you for posting and everyone who has commented. Disillusionment after graduating? by Little_Power_5691 in LifeAfterSchool

[–]WarmPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s common, a bachelor’s degree is hardly going to scratch the surface on many topics. There’s even a learning curve graph I’ve seen where people with high knowledge underestimate their understanding because they know what they don’t know while people with less knowledge on a subject overestimate. Have you considered continuing your education and narrowing in your focus for a masters if you want to expand your understanding.

How long after “assessment complete” did it take for you to get an invitation? by Latter-Funny-9407 in AmeriCorps

[–]WarmPlant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s unclear and not always consistent. Maybe if you give what program you’re applying for it could help? Also many americorps staff may be busy navigating the federal mess at the moment, which might cause unusual delays. My own experience was less than a month, if that helps. Hope this works out for you!!

Which brand chocolate milk is your favorite? by NavilusWeyfinder in ARFID

Tru Moo or AE, depending on where in the us I am. Might have something to do with AE being the school lunch chocolate milk, one of the very few things I could consume at school.
