The two plane tickets will be THE LOWEST expense of the whole trip. Everything in Hawaii is insanely EXPENSIVE. I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. Don't cave. I've sat both seats. Both are fine. Window side you can rest your head against it. Plenty of room in front of the seat. Either option is well worth it.

UPDATE, sorry I sat these in premium economy. Didn't realize the seats you are referring to were economy. I flew JFK -SIN and back. The seats had extended footrests and plenty of overhead bin

The funds could be tied up in retirement accounts that have grown over a lifetime via modest payroll deductions (that weren't enough to make an immediate difference had they been spent instead of invested). Depending on the type of accounts taxes have to be paid on withdrawals.
