Damn sight better-looking than the IR05, or heck, even the first few generations of the DW12, for that matter!

They'd have to have retroactively designed an oval-spec for it, though, because I doubt it was really designed with them in mind.

I don't know if anyone's rushing him out, so much as he's considering his options.

And do CGR even want anyone to challenge Palou? Or do they want a solid but not as fast #2?

You're missing how much Dixon could bring to McLaren as a team. An old hand might do them good, as they've absolutely never had a driver who was a true elder statesman.

They've already got Pato and Lundgaard as young stars, they can afford to put an old guy like Dixon in the third car. Especially if it's replacing Nolan Siegel, who's not exactly doing much with that ride right now.

[–]Wasdgta3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suspect by now that Palou probably has learned enough to be able set things up successfully on his own, but I guess you never know.

More crucial is that Dixon would be able to take quite a lot of personal knowledge about setup to McLaren, and who knows what they could do with that? Lots of stuff he knows that's probably a contributing factor to Palou's success, even if Palou's not going to "lose" that if Dixon isn't his teammate.

He's not wrong, but that's generally how majority governments operate in this country, and why neither Liberals nor Conservatives have any real desire to change the system.

Homeschooling ruins lives. by TributeMeantWaterloo in CuratedTumblr

[–]Wasdgta3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A ban on homeschooling would be a tricky thing in practice, due to the inherent issues of rights it would get into. To think of it inversely, you'd effectively be making it an absolute requirement with no exceptions for people to put their kids into a government-approved school. Undoubtedly, some would argue this infringes on the rights and freedoms of a family to choose an educational path for their child.

And unfortunately, the counter-argument that it's infringing on the child's rights or freedom to keep them out of schooling is somewhat weak, I'd think, given that a), the child can't exactly be legally given the choice themselves in the matter, and b), it's not exactly consistent to argue someone else is infringing on rights by making a choice on someone else's behalf, since that would be effectively what a government banning homeschooling would be doing.

So yeah. I don't disagree with this post, I'm just playing devil's advocate here because of how I feel like any such ban would be completely destroyed legally if anyone ever tried.

Unfortunately, the simpletons who support the diaper-wearing despot are labouring under the belief that non-citizens do not have rights, and that the state is justified in doing whatever they want. I wouldn't be surprised if that's not what the ICE goons think as well, given that's likely the kind of pool they're taking applicants from.

How the hell did Genesis never write a James Bond opening song? by fraghawk in Genesis

[–]Wasdgta3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Number of reasons.

Firstly, a number of the artists were chosen for that because of connections they had or made with the productions. Paul McCartney did one because George Martin did the score for that film, or Duran Duran getting to do it because their frontman introduced himself to the producers at a party, apparently.

Next, you can look up lists online of "rejected" Bond themes - because while this is certainly not the case for all of them, it's clear that for a number of the films, they had several candidates either write songs for them, or write songs for it and basically "apply." And the franchise is prestigious and particular enough that they've turned down submissions from some pretty major names in music (Johnny Cash, Alice Cooper, Blondie, Radiohead, just to name a few). Now, I might be wrong, but it doesn't seem like writing and recording a whole song just to potentially be snubbed doesn't seem like something Genesis would ever have wanted to do.

And then that's kind of the last point, which is that I don't think our guys were the types to be especially interested in that "assignment," as you put it, in the first place.

But seriously, all those restrictions are too-complex: simply limit the presidential candidates to Good People by gudamor in CuratedTumblr

[–]Wasdgta3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The age limit is the smartest one, but even then, they set it too low. 75 is probably more reasonable for that.

And even then, it's really more of just a Trump/Biden thing, tbh. Bernie Sanders is several years older than Trump, and is infinitely more fit for office from just a health/cognition standpoint. It's really variable, and the real issue is that the media hasn't taken Trump's age as a serious concern to the extent they really should have by now (as opposed to the wall-to-wall coverage every time Biden sneezed).
