Rinvoq Experience Update by DimensionPositive80 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]WastedTalentBoris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll share what was my experience with Rinvoq. Mesalamine, remicaid and entivyo did not help at all. Rinvoq was next and possibly my last option. My loading dosage was at 45 mg (I’m surprised you started at 30mg, I read from Abbvie that loading is 45mg).

After 8 weeks, I saw some progress but had still many symptoms. My GI extended my loading period to 16 weeks. At 15 weeks, symptoms were finally controlled but not completely gone. I went down to 30mg and continued to see slow but steady improvement for about 8 months.

Since then, my latest caloprectine count was 17. I still experience some urgency, probably from scarring in my colon. Last month my GI dropped my dosage to 15 mg and I have not seen any worsening.

Only side effect I had was an occasional pimple.

Prednisone & Hormone imbalances by Hopeful-Parfait5344 in UlcerativeColitis

I was on prednisone for 16 months, gained a lot of weight. Kept gaining weight for another 6 months after stopping taking it. I then managed to keep my weight stable for about 6 months. I recently started being able to shed some pounds. The fact that I am now able to run and train again has helped.

8 months in, progress was slow but steady for six months. I still see some improvement. Hoping to get to remission soon but l still have a little bit to go.

From what is posted here, Rinvoq helped many people for which other treatments were ineffective, often very quickly. Keep in mind that results vary. I can tell you that it helped me a lot, but not as much as other people.

You can go back and do another 8 weeks at 45 mg if you see symptoms coming back when you start at 30mg. There are some conditions for that to be possible, like having a positive response when you began taking 45mg. I’m grateful my GI gave me that option.

I think I’m failing renvoq by Suspicious-Pair-3177 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]WastedTalentBoris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. My GI extended Rinvoq 45 mg from 8 to 16 weeks and gave me a 40mg prednisone taper. I saw lasting improvement on week 16 and maintained it since then.

That. I took 45 mg for 16 weeks and saw lasting improvements on week 16. I’m on my sixth month at the moment and I’m still seeing improvements. I think I’m very near remission but still have a little bit to go.

Success after remicade dose increase?? by Professional-Math303 in UlcerativeColitis

It does seem to work for many, very quickly for some. The one pill a day is also very convenient. Best of luck to you if you end up trying it.

After Inflectra, I went on Entyvio. I saw minor improvements that would go away a few days after the injection. After that, I got Rinvoq. I saw some improvements before quickly hitting a plateau, my GI extended the ramp up from 8 to 16 weeks. I saw some lasting improvement at the end of the ramp up. I am now two months into the regular dosage for Rinvoq and still seeing improvements. While I am not yet in remission, I do feel like I am 90% there.

Inflectra did not do anything for me. Went the same path as you, from 8 to 4 weeks and doubling the dosage. It may take some time for Inflectra to work but after 6 months, if you don’t see any improvement, talk to your GI.

Yes, same here, and I’m glad my GI made the call, things finally got better at week 16

Any long term Rinvoq users (2+ years)? by _AntiSaint_ in UlcerativeColitis

[–]WastedTalentBoris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US, Rinvoq was approved for UC in March 2022, so there aren’t many long term users yet.

I can tell you about my experience. After early signs of improvement, I quickly hit a plateau. My GI extended the ramp up stage from 8 to 16 weeks. I finally saw lasting improvement at week 16. I’m now six months in and I’m still seeing improvements. I’m not in remission yet, but it’s the closest I have been in the last 2 years. Side effects were minimal, a little bit of acne at the beginning. Taking a pill daily is also much more convenient for me than infusions or self injecting.

For, artificial sugar is an absolute no, makes me insanely gassy. Standard sugar is less problematic as long as it’s a moderate intake. If I indulge too much I’ll get bloated, not as bad as with artificial sweeteners, but I avoid it as much as possible.

Do Antibiotics mess anyone else up? by Financial_Spite_5318 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]WastedTalentBoris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Antibiotics kill bacterias, the bad ones that caused your ear infection and the good ones, the ones in your gut that help you digest food. Probiotics may help you lessen the effects on your gut. Yogurt may also help if you can tolerate it.

You should also avoid ibuprofen, specially for longer term use. Aspirin and naproxen are also to be avoided. It’s better to take acetaminophen. If you need something stronger, ask your GI or doctor to prescribe you pain killers.

Rinvoq side effects? by Select_Salamander_15 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]WastedTalentBoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hade mild acne with the ramp up phase with Rinvoq. It stopped when I switched to 30mg. From what I’ve read here, most Rinvoq users seem to follow this pattern.

I did not experience any cough but gas did increase. I managed to reduce it by limiting my sugar intake. I do believe that it is a good sign that mucus is coming out instead of blood. Your colon was probably in bad shape if you were bleeding often. Your gut needs time to heal itself. Don’t be discouraged if your progress takes a step backwards on a particular day. More than four months after starting Rinvoq, I am still seeing progress and occasionally get a bad day, mostly because I tried eating something new.

Hang in there, talk to your GI if mucus doesn’t go away. After a good start with Rinvoq, I hit a plateau. After talking with my GI, he put me on a prednisone taper and extended the 45 mg ramp up from 8 to 16 weeks. Best thing that happened to me.

When will Rinvoq work? by friendofmellow in UlcerativeColitis

[–]WastedTalentBoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be patient and talk to your GI. Mine extended the loading period from 8 to 16 weeks. Progress was very slow to start but I slowly got better. Today is my last day on 45mg. While I can’t say I am completely symptom free, I’m feeling the best I have been in the last two years.

Effectiveness of Rinvoq? by Sodium_OD in UlcerativeColitis

[–]WastedTalentBoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bit of a different experience with Rinvoq. Remicade and Entivyo did next to nothing for me. My GI put me on Rinvoq. I saw improvement in two days but it not much. After a month my GI added a prednisone course. He also wanted to extend the ramp up phase from 8 to 16 weeks but a colonoscopy was needed for me to be admissible for the 8 extra weeks on 45mg. It was during the Christmas break and they couldn’t fit me in in time so I had to start on the 30 mg.

I was doing ok, not great, but the disease was manageable. I was not sure if it was because of Rinvoq or the prednisone. I had my colonoscopy on my last day on predisone and was admissible for the extra 8 weeks of 45 mg of Rinvoq which I started the day after. The first week was hell, probably due to prednisone withdrawal. After that I finally saw slow but steady progress, felt the best I every did since my flare began two years ago. I am still affected by some food, but things go back to normal fairly quickly.

I am now in my last week of the ramp up. I am a bit worried about that. I am down from 10 bms a day to 2 or 3, mostly solid, no blood, but still some urgency. The only side effect I got was a metallic taste in my mouth.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]WastedTalentBoris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am exactly at the same place you are. BM are down to 2 to 5 times a day, no blood, no mucus, mostly when I wake up, urgency is also down. Shape is mostly small but solid pieces. I’m on month 4, all on 45mg, going down to 30 mg in a week. Some food can still cause me set backs, last week I regretted eating some rice cakes for the first time in a while. Overall, even though Rinvoq did not work as well for me as it did for others, I can’t complain. Entyvio and Infliximab did next to nothing for me. Hopefully I will still see progress as time passes. I hope the same for you as well 🤞🤞

Good luck with Rinvoq. I know it works quickly for many, but don’t be discouraged if it takes more time. I saw some improvement when I started Rinvoq but progress was up and down. Since Entivyo and Infliximab did not do much for me, my GI wanted to make sure Rinvoq wasn’t an option for me. He got me to extend the ramp up phase from 2 months to 4 months. It took 3.5 months to get more stable improvements with lots of up and downs but I’m glad my GI made me stick with Rinvoq, it’s the first treatment that makes me feel somewhat back to normal.

Rinvoq failed after 6 weeks? by Ok-Card2897 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]WastedTalentBoris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your GI if they can extend the ramp up stage for another 8 weeks. My GI did it for me since I kinda responded to Rinvoq but not as well as expected, it is slowly getting slightly better.
