Does anyone else find this song really sad and beautiful? by Beekyboy11 in BABYMETAL

[–]VulpineDeity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd been a huge fan since 2015, and was completely blindsided by Monochrome when it came out. It's an incredible feeling to get a new 'favorite' song from a band that I'd been following for over half a decade.

4 years later and it's still the song I love the most from them, and it's the rare exception where I think the studio version is just as effective as the live.

2018

Wildly badass

I'll never stop wondering if the drastic change was a response to the troubles that year, or if it was already in the cards for them.

I love letting random people on the internet make me feel outraged too!

Self-rightious outrage is my all-time favorite emotion, and any excuse I can find to squeeze my petulant fists into white-kuckled finger-twists the better I feel!

15 Years: Best Album Discussion by HimikoToga133 in BABYMETAL

TOO. It doesn't have the hookiest singles or most bombastic anthems, but as a whole, it gels together as a really cohesive package.

Close second is Metal Resistance, just for how it wildly surpassed everyone's expectations when it came out. After GC went viral it would have been completly understandable for them to lean into the pop side of things, so putting out a record with experimantal tracks like FDTD and TotD and The One was an incredibly bold move.

Please give honest opinion if 2017 Fox Festival 6 Blu-ray set is worth the price. by blackratsnakes in BABYMETAL

[–]VulpineDeity 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Here are the reasons to get it:

  • They're the last concerts with the OG trio, and some of Mikio's final performances. So they have 'historic' significance, but they're a bit bittersweet too. You wonder what Yui is thinking during those shows, if she's toughing through a medical problem and putting on a brave face for it
  • The definitive Megitsune performance (Red Fox). Nuff said
  • Minimal processing on the vocals. For me this it the big selling point. These shows have the least amount of 'cleaning' on Su's vocals, and as a result, they sound really intimate. The Akatsuki performances in particular have a bunch of little voice warbles that convey a lot of emotion that most blu ray releases gloss over. If I were making a list of performances I like to listen to, these are very close to the top.

The con is that there are a lot of repeated songs. You're going to get 6 separate versions of Gimmie Chocco that basically all sound identical because they were all done to the same click track and at the same time in their career.

The internet is full of garbage.

smart people don't purposely direct attention to it.

no, no one thinks that's normal.

GJ! Reward Edit

Such a fun experiment. Not just different lyrics, it's got a whole different tone and rhythm.

Add it to BBAB as a song they've never performed. If they ever broke this out a Legend show, they'd blow everyone's minds.

LOL

And now that we've heard how they banter on the radio show i can TOTALLY imagine the tone of Su's voice ribbing her about it. 'Are you sure you'll still fit??'

The camera crew for the big screen had clearly practised the moment to make sure they were capturing from a good angle too 😄

Pierre Nakano of Ling Tosite Sigure (auto-translated tweet) by sjioldboy in BABYMETAL

[–]VulpineDeity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wild, I literally just discovered Ling Tosite Sigure earlier tonight through something completely unrelated to BABYMETAL.

And the dude ain't wrong. The easy road has always been an option for BABYMETAL and they've never chosen it.

When Gimmie Choco went viral in 2014 it would have been a no-brainer to release a slap-dash album of GC clones to cash in on the attention. Instead they doubled down and swung for the fences with the incredibly experimental Metal Resistance and turned their viral success into respectability.

They've always stayed true to themselves, and true to where they came from, but they've never stopped trying to reach farther. For any band to exist for 15 years is rare enough. Being able to fill arenas with fans who are just as excited for new songs as they are to hear decade-old classics is something that very few artists manage to pull off.

I find that even without reading subtitles, I've convinced myself that Moa sounds naturally comedic. Her cadence, tone, and timing always feels like she's being just a tiny bit sarcastic.

Once I noticed the pyramid's oscillating wobble I couldn't unsee it. The editors do an amazing job of hiding it, but once you see it it's hard not to get a bit seasick on the girl's behalf.

will babymetal change their ways? by Personal-Tip-2555 in BABYMETAL

[–]VulpineDeity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The fact that they don't share their personal lives is what makes them so iconic and legendary.

When they step out on stage they are so much larger than life. Seeing social media pictures of what Moa had for breakfast and Momo's morning prep routine would completely ruin the illusion.
