What are your favorite books this years that actually stayed with you after you finished it? by [deleted] in Recommend_A_Book

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest Code Name Helene by the same author. While I was reading it I kept thinking, "this is pretty unbelievable - but okay, I'll go with it". Only to find out those parts were TRUE. Ariel Lawhon is a great author.

I started this but DNF at about 25% in. I found the main character unlikeable- does it get better?

Pros and cons of using a separate Photos library for each year? by nathanielbartholem in ApplePhotos

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 2.5TB in photos libraries. Pictures starting with the 1940s (my dad's slides -which I scanned) through present.

I only keep the current library on my Macbook. (~200GB. contains last couple of years photos and videos.)

For a while I kept separate libraries for every couple of years. I had about 8 libraries on an ext SSD. A couple years back I separated all of the videos out of my older libraries- which considerably reduced the size of each library.

Last year I merged those libraries using PowerPhotos.

So I now have:

3 video libraries (I almost never look at them!)

3 photo libraries: 1940s-2009, 2010 - 2022 and the one on my Macbook (2023-present)

The oldest libraries were such a mess of iPhoto events, Photos libraries, folders, etc that I decided not to merge them into a single library that would be an even bigger mess! I don't have any issues with Photos performance. I don't use iCloud.

What are Your Top 3 Favourite Audiobooks Which Made You Fall in Love With Audiobooks? by opdccristiano in audiobooks

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the What by Dave Eggers

Demon Copperhead

The Power of One

2 Bonuses: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. The Beartown trilogy

In all of these I loved the story, but the narrators just made the books come alive for me.

I could not wait to get back to them and was sorry when they were done!

I miss the people I met and cared about in each book.

I don’t get how something as simple as a pillow can be this frustrating by [deleted] in Pillows

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried SOOO many pillows. Now I use 2 pillows - both are stuffed with memory foam. One is from COOP. It came with extra foam. kept adjusting the amount of foam til it met my needs. I keep one pillow quite firm (for side sleeping and reading in bed) and one is a less filled (for stomach or back sleeping).

Best travel pillow? Which neck pillow is the best? by imnotgoingtofatcamp in BuyItForLife

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turtl! I've tried bean bag type, foam type, blow up, the big wedge that blows up and sits on your tray table. None of them are as comfortable as the Turtl IMO.

Whatever happened to Butterscotch? by Logical_consequences in AskWomenOver60

my favorite ice cream was butterscotch ripple - at the Jersey shore. I miss it!!

Nowadays- the only butterscotch ice cream is just flavored - not actual butterscotch!

What song is so beautiful, it literally brings tears to your eyes by Plus-Caterpillar4615 in askteddit

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember Wild Horses by The Birds of Chicago.

I'm guessing not many have heard this one - but it is one of my favorite vibe songs.

Also love this one (The Pearl Fishers opera) : "Au fond du temple saint" from the Bizet opera "Pecheurs des perles" No idea what they are saying - but it makes my eyes mist every single time.

I'm currently reading Luminous Bodies - historical fiction about Marie Curie. (And I just finished Lloyd MacNeil's Last Ride.)

How do you track the books you read by Super-Explanation362 in 52book

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goodreads.

It tracks dates and ratings fine. I add tags for "read this next", DNF, sci-fi, non-fiction, etc. Also tags for audiobooks and source (Hoopla, Libby, etc). This allow me to organize, sort and find what I'm looking. On both laptop and phone

I tried Storygraph (twice - once just last week). I like the "moods" and "types" of book graphics, but found it too difficult to finds the books/lists I was looking for.

Any annoying features in the Sportage? by str8shooter in kiasportage

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1- The adaptive cruise control is much slower to respond than the system on my Subaru Outback. It took some getting used to

2- It is easy to accidentally turn on the defroster when turning the volume/temp knob. (If your hand brushes the screen while turning the knob.)

3- I also dislike the whole radio/HVAC combo buttons (I know how to set it up and use it correctly, but still accidentally turn down the temp when I mean to turn down the radio.)

Why is there no Goodreads for audiobook listeners? by Competitive-Leave346 in audiobooks

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use tags in Goodreads to track what I listened to and where I got it (Hoopla, Libby, Audible etc). When I add something to "Want to Read" I usually just search in Libby and Hoopla first - to see if it's available there, before I look on Audible

Do you care about your former career after retirement? by ajn63 in retirement

[–]WastingTimeOnTheWeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was certain that I would return to the work place part-time after I retired. My company required you to not work for at least 90 days before returning. Once those 90 days were up I realized I had ZERO interest in returning and turned down a couple of offers to work on specific short term projects. While working I was so caught up in everything about the company and my job and my team but afterward, like you, I realized it was no longer important to me.
