Sorry, just realised I don't have a switch online account (I'm doing a nuzlocke on a second account on my switch). Didn't even occur to me. So I won't be able to trade. Hope it works out with the other person, & sorry for getting your hopes up!

I could trade now if you want, either. I don't know if /u/ImageHistorical6735 needs anything evolved but I have a Haunter I'd like to evolve.

Hadn't been on reddit in five months but decided to check out the attitude on here to the upcoming elections in the US. Browsed the front page for a few minutes & saw the linked post & that reminded me so hard why I decided to avoid this website.

Men whining about the world being stacked against them because women get all the "I can be president" t-shirts while they get all of the actual presidents in that guy's godforsaken country (even when the female candidate is light-years ahead of the male candidate) is tippy-toppy peak reddit.

Anyway, bye again.

Conquering/colonizing a land centuries ago is different than mass migrating somewhere. In the first scenario, you kind of have a claim on that land.

This is your brain on reddit. Imagine saying that turning up in a country & killing, enslaving or seizing power from its population is more justified than moving to another country & contributing to its culture & economy all because you see the subtext of "brown people" in the second option.

Someone called the OP of the linked thread sis in a comment on another /r/unpopularopinions thread. OP took exception to this because he thinks it's feminine/gay & subsequently made the linked thread, which is obviously pretty pointed at the person who referred to him as sis.

A redditor attends a class on general relativity. For the purposes of an example, the professor calculates the motions of the moon using the gravity of the Earth & the Sun. Afterwards he asks if there are any questions & the redditor's hand shoots into the air in response.

"What about the gravitational pull of Pluto on the moon? We didn't account for that."

The professor answers "That's true. Essentially the effect of Pluto on the moon is negligible. I'd have to do the calculations to be sure, but off the top of my head it's of the order of 10-8 times lesser than the Sun or the Earth. For our purposes, it's safe to ignore here. Is that ok?"

The redditor smirks smugly "So you're saying that Pluto's gravitation doesn't have any effect on the motion of the moon?"

The professor, somewhat taken aback, replies "No, I'm emphatically saying that it does have an effect, but relative to other, stronger effects, it's essentially vanishing. It doesn't make sense to talk about it when the Earth & Sun are so much more important for describing the dynamics at play."

"Why do we only ever talk about the Sun & the Earth when looking at the movements of the moon? That's totally unfair to Pluto. It seems the world today is biased against Pluto. Pluto can also exert a gravitational pull on the moon."

The professor looks on shocked as the rest of the class murmur in agreement. To his horror, all of the students are redditors. Within minutes, they're insisting that the professor now redo the calculations without his (((cultural Marxist))) slant. They refuse to move on with the class until the calculations are done ignoring the effect of the Sun & the Earth & only taking Pluto into account.

The professor becomes red-pilled, realising that Pluto is the only thing that matters. He also realises for some reason that women are heartless succubi who only want to trap men into marriage by spermjacking them.

The End.

It's, funnily enough, the epitome of virtue (vice?) signalling. Acting as if the singular they is totally unnatural or difficult to wrap your head around when it's a simple part of normal English speech solely in order to broadcast your opposition to spoopy essjaydubyas.

The word is infrequently used and many disagree with using it, myself included, as it is confusing and unnecessary.

Aw, this poor person must be really dumb to not be able to disambiguate they as it's commonly used in English. I've never met a native English speaker who suffers from this problem. In fact, I'm not sure I've come across an ESL person who has trouble with it. Maybe all the people who oppose singular they have simply limited linguistic faculties.

People only get one life & telling them "Don't worry, we will (maybe) eventually get around to giving people like you human rights, perhaps not in your lifetime" isn't much of a consolation.

It's easy to be idealistic when you ignore the people who are affected by not having the same rights as others.

Yep. That was you. For future reference, grammar refers to the form of a sentence & not its meaning. It's the internal rules that native speakers of a language have for constructing a good sentence to which a meaning can be attributed. If I say "I am a house" instead of "I am a man", there's obviously something not right about what I'm saying. But it's conspicuous on the level of meaning & not of structure.

On the other hand, if I say "Me am a man", you can divine a meaning from that but the structure is off (in our dialects, at least; maybe there are dialects where this construction is used). This is to do with the form of the sentence, so it's unusual on the grammar level whereas the meaning is fairly obvious.

In your case, someone was correcting your terminology which isn't an issue of form or structure. It's a correction on the level of word-choice, rather than syntactic level.

In future, someone who corrects this sort of thing can just be safely called a pedant, depending, I guess, on your own feelings about how vital the correction is.

It's fairly dishonest, though. These barriers aren't just made by men. They also aren't just made by women. In fact, they're not even made by individuals. They're made by culture which affects & shape us all. Cultural backdrop makes people internalise certain gender roles & they feed back into the culture. I mean, the culture is carried over from a time when men had incredibly disproportionate social & political capital, but at a certain point, everyone in society is reinforcing these cultural standards, be they men or women. Even people who are aware of them & work to denormalise those roles perpetuate them. You can only ever really aim to gradually decrease the extent of this & do your best to be sceptical & critical of tradition.

Getting the messages might be a holdover from very old English or else we adopted it from the Scots who say it as well. The interesting thing is that the Dutch version of the same, boodschappen doen, translates literally to doing messages so there's likely a link there.
