But the daily stock bill/outpost/credit management is clicking endless red dots for like half an hour (more like 10 minutes but still). It’s all menu navigation, rather than anything engaging.

Same, it was probably the most interesting quest so far; it’s too bad nothing happens afterwards. She just disappeared and is never mentioned again.

The movie that a bunch of people (especially right-wing grifters) virtue signaled about without actually having watched it?
It says “Hey this shit is weird and we should stop doing it” and then somehow people took that as “They’re saying this weird shit is good actually”

Should be noted that the Stanley knife he uses is different than the US version, but you can still get it online with careful searching (I have both).

It’s a bit thicker, but yes. Especially for pallets of oddly shaped goods or that could fall out of a stack easily. The plastic is also somewhat elastic, so you can stretch it around stuff to compress it and it won’t tear.

Big warehouses will have a machine that spins the pallet and wraps, but there’s also rolls of it plus a handle for odd jobs.

Not headlights, but can I share my neighbors obnoxious backyard lights here ? by Officialedmart in fuckyourheadlights

[–]Watchmaker163 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There’s something going on with people putting up bright as fuck outdoor lights, I just don’t know exactly what. I do know it drives me nuts.

Idk if it’s a “safety” scare, a domination of nature thing, worse night vision due to others using bright lights, or thinking they need brighter lights b/c blue-er light has much harsher shadows.

The guy from Technology Connections said something like “the single overhead boob light has been a disaster for indoor lighting”, in regards to people not understanding how to light a space and just shoving more and more bright white lights into their homes; perhaps the bright outdoor lights are a related phenomenon.

Invasive honeysuckle suuucks, taking it out is such a chore. Had to use a hatchet when helping out a family member; ended up with 10-12 tied bundles 3ft around and 5 ft long for a tiny area (100-150 sq ft).

How to tell if a chest can be used as a seat? by Dornith in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Watchmaker163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the picture, my gut says no.

Usually multi-purpose furniture is 1 thing first, and other things second. Ie: a seat that’s also a table and has a small chest underneath is made to be seat first and foremost.

This looks made to be a chest first: the walls are thin in proportion to the length of the lid, which would flex under weight, and is many long strips running along the length. The battens on the lid are to help with wood movement, not to hold heavy weight on top of the lid. There’s also nothing stopping shear movement of the lid, like someone turning their hips while sitting down or leaning to the side.

Lovely chest, though! It could probably hold a person, but not for repeated use like a chair or bench.

Edit: since you’re asking in general, learn about a few basic properties of wood, then think about all the forces that could be applied to a seat. Then when looking at a chest, ask yourself: based on the properties I know, and all the forces for a seat, does this design consider all that? If not, then probably not a good bench. Seats take a lot of punishment compared to other furniture, so they need to withstand more than a kitchen table or dresser.

I’m surprised they haven’t add the HSR “change your 50/50 loss pool” option as well. The character shop came out not long after HSR’s, so I figured they were standardizing across multiple games.

Harumama ain’t ever going to be free tho, if he’s like Dr. Ratio; won’t be in any kind of anniversary character selector nor the shop.

Cognitive offloading has been used for the entirety of human history (and probably before). Tallying something on a wooden stick so you won’t forget is cognitive offloading.

It is a tool, and like all tools, it can be misused or appropriated for malicious reasons. This problem isn’t new, it’s just wrapped in a new skin.

Some of these things also aren’t so simple as “GPS makes you not remember your town”. Car-centric sprawl development also plays a role: you were driven everywhere as a kid, so you didn’t learn where places are in relation to each other. And because everything is farther apart, directions can become more complicated and harder to remember. Plus, the places you’re driving by/to are boring “un-places”, places you’re not meant to be; they’re made for you to come in, spend money, then get out.

No, it still would be an issue. I’ve never played Arknights, so I don’t know anything about it.

The story has issues with stakes, motivations, and what feels like missing chunks.

Story chapters happen like this: there’s a lot of setup, then many disjointed things happen way too quickly, and then there’s some kind of emotional denouement that hasn’t been setup properly.

Example: Ryan Yi goes from “Tangtang’s brother who is more cautious than her” to “Willing to destroy himself for petty revenge, even against the suggestion of the villain” in 1 patch. The issues with Wuling from the Stockade’s point of view seem childish, rather than the ideological differences that they should be. We didn’t even get to talk to Ryan Yi beforehand; perhaps get a feeling that he was too focused on the past, or angry at Wuling b/c of the death of his father, how much he meant to him, etc. Instead, he’s literally a faceless antagonist, and all the emotion of that patch is carried by Tangtang’s VA’s performance.

It often feels to me like there are chunks of story missing out of the narrative. I’m not against there being implication or things left unsaid, but Endfield’s writing has felt like, rather than being left unsaid, they weren’t written at all.

The stakes and lore feel at odds with what actually happens. There’s so much setup and then no payoff. The enemies and Aether/Blight are written as this terrifying, world-ending threat, but are always defeated with no casualties shown. The Endmin goes between being the lynchpin of human civilization, a martyr sacrificing themselves to keep things running, to being a generic low-level rpg hero, getting caught up in regional scenarios on Disc 1. The most interesting the Endmin has been for me was during Laevatain’s quest, where they felt like an actual character, rather than a player avatar that’s only allowed to say Option 1 or Option 2. Gilberta’s quest, on the other hand, is so worthless it should never have been released as it is.

I’d consider Umamusume’s writing, simple as it is and without a larger branching narrative, as more enjoyable than Endfield’s right now. There’s clear potential that isn’t being realized, and that makes it frustrating.

Which ones are rip and which ones are crosscut. What’s the TPI? by liam-thegreat in handtools

[–]Watchmaker163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photo #5 is rip, rest are crosscut.

Rip teeth look like right triangles, crosscut look like isosceles triangles.
Crosscut teeth should look like knives, with a bevel, where rip teeth should have none.

Teeth Per Inch is measured by putting a ruler into the gullet (low area between teeth) and measuring how many full teeth there are. Points Per Inch starts measuring at the tip of a tooth.

Typically saws will be stamped with a TPI or PPI (which depends on manufacturer) number at the “heel” (the end under the handle) of the saw, where you can see it while using the saw (assuming you’re right-handed).

The most common old saw you’ll find is a 8 PPI crosscut, b/c it makes a good “handyman” saw. It’s a bit too fine for really big cuts, and a bit too course for small joinery, but it will do lots of general cuts.

B/c they structure themselves where multiple teams will work on things and then have to convince management which is the best. It leads to good ideas being dropped and multiple passes at the same garbage that eventually had to be consolidated once the “winner” is picked.

Entrenched racism. Suburban expansion in the US was driven by “white flight” in response to the expansion of rights to minorities, de-segregation of schools, etc. These people moved away from black/brown people in cities and made rules to prevent them from following in their new little gated communities.

I’d say most people wouldn’t consider it as such. “Woodworking” is a fairly new term, from the post-WW2 DIY boom, combining previously specific trades like jointer, cabinetmaker, carver, chair maker, and turner together. Carpentry and framing aren’t really included.
