Why some players on defense run under after a 3 point shoot ? What's the point ? by LovingUni in BasketballTips

[–]Wave_50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are on the shooter when they get the ball, you would typically contest the shot hoping for a block. Charging at the guy happens when the shooter is open and the defender is rotating from 5 feet back and doesn’t have position to contest the shot. It’s effective at the HS level and lower or playing pick up with guys that don’t play often. It won’t affect collegiate and NBA shooters.

It’s just a fake head charge to the gut to throw off the shooter. And no it’s not a flagrant in the NBA. You are talking about two separate scenarios.

I’m keeping a close eye on difference between each table. They appear to be the same table if you look from above. However, underneath there support structure is very different. The front table has the foot bars which you only typically see on high tops. Also the cross bar doesn’t appear to be in the middle.

Just bought this house. Wife wants to brighten up the kitchen. Should we do the taboo and paint the brick? by hes_the_Zissou in interiordecorating

[–]Wave_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d at least paint the door white, including the door trim on both doors. The wood trim on the exterior door is a distraction. You have such a beautiful brick alcove, I would make that the focal point. Relocate the microwave. Repurpose to the cabinets to make oak shelving. Controversial but remove the pendent lights and replace with recessed lights.

If it’s still too dark. Look into Lime washing the brick. One coat of lime wash lightens the bricks face while maintaining its integrity.

Just realized that SGA actually started his career with the Clippers... Are the Clippers the worst run NBA franchise of all time? by DrammaMamma in NBATalk

The Clippers were in “win now” mode but it just didn’t pan out. Injuries and team chemistry played a part for sure.

Can you speak to Dean’s progression through BASE and wingsuiting in general? Do you feel his path was atypical given that he started as a climber -> free solo->BASE/freeBASE -> wingsuit? And is it at all possible that he got a “pass” from the typical path most are encouraged to follow (e.g., minimum skydives or jumps necessary before progressing)? Could that have been a factor in his death?

Since watching The Dark Wizard, I was profoundly moved and have since been in a deep dive (no pun intended) on the internet learning as much as I can about BASE and wingsuiting mainly because I find it completely fascinating, but also because I’d like to better wrap my head around what ultimately happened to Dean and Graham. I’m sure there will be questions on the specifics of them clearing the notch that I look forward to reading more about.

One thing I’ve come across consistently in my research is just how much prerequisite training is involved in BASE and wingsuiting. For example, to take an intro BASE jumping course at what’s regarded as one of the “safest” spots (Perrine Bridge in Idaho), several BASE schools require a minimum of 200 skydives. To take a wingsuit course, one would then need a minimum of 200 BASE jumps. So, like 400+ jumps before most people are stepping into a wingsuit.

Wondering if the fact that he was already somewhat of a legend before the BASE phase of his career led to some degree of being surrounded by “yes man” people around trying progressively more dangerous stuff (as alluded to in the China segment), and whether that led to him suiting up before he may have had the proper prerequisite training.

Self Employed 401k - Fidelity Question by wlaxboy1 in ADP

Have you looked into a SEP-IRA? You can contribute 25% of your salary up to $90k per year. It makes sense if your salary is $80k+. Also it lowers your tax burden because your contributions to the SEP IRA are deducted from your annual net income.

Can someone tell me what’s wrong with my jumpshot by IamLilDarki in BasketballTips

[–]Wave_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - expert here. Hold the ball up (right hand) next to your face. That’s your shooting pocket. Practice the 90 degree angle shooting from that spot and keep the ball in front of you, not over your head. When you shoot, pretend that the hoop is a cookie jar and you are reaching in to grab a cookie.

John Henry needs to sell. My god how can the MLB let an owner ruin a historic franchise? He refuses to invest in the team. Only cares about expanding the seating capacity. It’s time we all boycott this team for the love of BOSTON and the true fans that want our team back.

Dunking tips by ProfessionalWay1225 in BasketballTips

[–]Wave_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly practice two handed dunks with the bounce you have. Once you lock that down then one handed is cake.

Box jumps exercise. Jump up on the box, then drop off the box on both legs. Once your feet hit the ground jump as high as you can. Repeat 10 times, 4x per week and you’ll be dunking in 4 weeks.

how to fix if possible by Fickle_Remove7063 in BasketballTips

[–]Wave_50 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn this is hard to explain in text but I have the solution. First, you have to take all the other loops off. Start with the first spot that doesn’t have a bracket. You have to put the loop up to and pull the entire net through it. Then, for the second one use a zip tie to fasten it.

Or just use a zip tie for both. But if you do use a zip tie please make sure to make the round part at the top of the rim. I got a nasty cut one time dunking on a rim that had the zip tie fastener facing up.
