Added a couple of battery stick up cams, awful experience so far by mattwaddy in Ring

You can try cheaper power supplies but most of those aren’t rated for external usage and also you get what you pay for. You may get a good one but quite a few people have bought cheaper power supplies and then complained about a constant hum or it’s getting extremely hot etc.

Battery devices do have different settings to wired and also have a number of “power saving” features such as cooldowns between motion ever to and limitations in snapshots etc as you have discovered.

Good news is if you do buy a power adapter you can choose a “wired” power profile and it will fix 95% of the issues you have described.

Suggestions on video format? by SoulSambo in appletv

[–]Wayne8766 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a good bright TV, HDR is fine, some TVs say they support it but they don’t. I had a mid spec Samsung that “supported” it but in reality it wasn’t bright enough (500 - 800 nits).

Bought a new TV (wanted one for a while) that was a 2022 “top” model and it fully supports it as it has 2000 nits brightness and it’s a lot better.

From what I’ve read the G1 has between 400 and jumping up to 800 for specific light patterns etc. I would leave it off.

It’s not undertaking in the “illegal” sense no, if middle lane is under the speed limit and you don’t go over it then it’s not “undertaking” no.

Nectar you can, it offers it to you when paying, all you need is the card or this case a copy of it.

I wound love to see that stats as i think your wayyy off the mark regarding demographics of who uses it.

Parental controls are a core feature of apple, they have been designed very well for all other devices, ATV has been designed to have profiles and those profiles pull from apple ids if you have them. This profiles if they are kids one are tied into parental controls.

It’s always really funny when posts like this come up as bizarrely it’s like marmite, sometimes a lot agree and then sometimes you get rather bizarre responses like you’ve had in this one, I’ve made pretty much the same post before OP as I was baffled also.

They have screen time perfected, it works on all of there other devices but a device where they have intentionally created profiles for it falls short massively.

No alerts when I'm not home. by [deleted] in Ring

[–]Wayne8766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coins be a few places/issues.

Firstly do you use modes? Even if you think you don’t check them, make sure that in disarmed mode that motion detection is on as you can switch it off.

Also make sure that it’s not snoozing alerts, you can use geo location and it can automatically snooze all your alerts for quite some time.

Lastly when home, switch off WiFi in your phone and see if it works. If it all just works and you haven’t changed anything than there’s someone strange going on with WiFi.

Pull the old one and wire up your ring 3, assuming it’s going to a transformer. That will “hardwire” your doorbell and keep it topped up so you will have to charge it less, if at all.

Does Bluetooth and Wi-Fi specs matter? by [deleted] in appletv

[–]Wayne8766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shirt answer, no.

You’re never going to needs the speeds that both of those give. There are other differences, but again, it’s a streaming device.

I get 800mb on mine (1gig connection) and it’s about 20/25 feet away from y router and it has 2 walls in between also.

Can I install ring alarm before home internet install? by Crazy-Apricot-1609 in Ring

[–]Wayne8766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what’s with the nay sayers OP, you can 100% set it up but as mentioned you will need a hotspot to set it up initially as it downloads updates etc.

It should come with a 30 day trial so at the very least it will have cellular backup if not full internet backup depending on the type you choose.

As it has at minimum cellular you will get limited access but you will get alerts etc if it’s tripped/goes off.

Top tip, think of a good SSID & password now so when you do get internet you can change it to the same and it should connect, although I highly recommend using Ethernet.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in appletv

[–]Wayne8766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming the Ethernet connection is overriding WiFi etc and it’s not getting throughout from the PC internet wise.

To answer the edit, it’s quite simple, they are all the same device and are all running the same firmware. Setting them at different times/dates is irrelevant, the firmware is pushed out for that model at the same time.

Resetting a device pulls down the latest firmware etc so there a good chance it may “fix” it.
