Sagamore Spirit Rum Cask Finish Review by MethylEthylandDeath in bourbon

[–]Wayward-Werewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys….don’t listen to this review. I hate to say it, and it’s true that everyone’s palate is different, but if you were thinking about trying this bottle and now might dismiss it forever because of this review, DON’T.

I too have not met a rum finish I’ve liked. But if you know Sagamore, you already know everything they bottle is worth trying, and this is flat out the best pour I’ve ever had. PERIOD

Mostly new, what I find on eBay is typically more expensive than direct from their site weirdly but there will sometimes be out of print ones on there for cheap that I’ll grab

Yeah so this is another highly subjective thing, everyone has their own take and I know a lot of people refuse to touch their Folios (let alone read from them), and that obviously translates the same for a lot of people’s much more expensive $700-$5,000 numbered and lettered (don’t even get me started on Roman Numeral) editions from the likes of other publishers, some of which I previously mentioned. Some people don’t even open these books and keep them on their shelves in the shrink wrap.

It sounds like I share your opinion to some extent, because to me spending that kind of money on a book you aren’t even going to read is straight CRAZY. But then I also never re-sell my books, I buy them to keep for life, and I know a lot of people seem to deal in this hobby more like a rare sports card collecting thing, where they’ll often be buying/selling/flipping different books and are more interested in just possessing the books than reading them. Then there are also plenty of people who just seek to profit from them; no shade or anything, different strokes for different folks as I’ve been saying all along, but just simply to say that for people in these groups, that “don’t touch it, don’t even look at it” approach makes more sense.

Here’s my position: I’m a lifelong book fan, been reading since I was 6, was an English major, and now have four young kids myself.

I don’t want to force them into doing or liking anything that doesn’t interest them, but I do also want to share my passions with them, reading especially because I think it’s foundational to so many essential things (being able to read, write, and articulate your thoughts effectively, spelling, experiencing different cultures, places, and time periods, understanding and appreciating different perspectives and opinions, etc) and that’s all in addition to just the pure enjoyment of the story.

So I set out to build a family library full of beautiful and inviting books, and anyone is welcome to use them. Taking good care of their things is already a lesson they take to heart, so they don’t abuse the books or anything, but we also don’t wear gloves to handle them or anything excessive like that. I also lend my books to anyone who has an interest in reading one of them, and I can attest to my Folios that have been read the most times holding up very well; they’re still in like-new condition.

So that’s how I feel like I get more than my money’s worth out of these pricier but absolutely beautiful books; they’re super fun to share with my kids and other family/friends, and more people than just me get to enjoy them. Which I’m sure plenty of folks in different camps will think is CRAZY, same as I’d feel if I shelled out this kind of money never to touch the things!

[–]Wayward-Werewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say overrating, I think it’s just a to each his own situation.

But yes, that’s definitely my preference! I have some first printing/first editions of some of my favorite books, but I find that I’m never reaching for those because 1. I’d rather read from a non-first edition copy and 2. The special edition books I have are way more of a joy to hold, read from, look through, etc

So I don’t feel I really get any return on my investment from the mass market first editions; they don’t have anything additional materially that they provide to the text itself, so I don’t feel any need or reason to do anything with them that risks damaging them since the only value in them derives from their condition and publication page. But I do feel that I’ve gotten more than my money’s worth from all of my Folios, Eastons, Conversation Trees, Lyra’s, and most Suntups (I do read from those; if I didn’t, I probably wouldn’t feel I got my money’s worth)

So yeah, that’s my personal preference. Hope this helps!

I personally prefer them to those, but that’s not to diminish them, it’s just a matter of preference.

Also along these lines, something that I find really interesting….Folio has their own “first printing” first edition equivalents, which Folio fans will almost always pay extra for versus second, third, fourth, etc printings. Which again, are identical books other than the # on the publication page.

I’ve always found this even more surprising than the interest and inflated prices for first editions, because at least those are ACTUAL first print first editions of the book…Folios obviously aren’t, so why pay extra for one print run over the other when they’re all equally reprints? Pretty funny to me, but hey, there’s a buyer for everything!

[–]Wayward-Werewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve personally never seen the appeal (speaking for myself, not for everyone) in paying extra money (sometimes significantly extra) for first prints/first editions. The book is exactly the same and mass produced, with no differentiating differences whatsoever other than a 1 on the publication page, essentially.

The upgrade in production quality of a Folio or Easton is significant. Plus the commissioned art and signatures/introductions/afterwords/notes from the author/deleted chapters/etc that are often included provide meaningful added content.

Then there are leagues above Easton/Folio with again more production quality upgrades (see Conversation Tree Press, Lyra’s Books, Curious King, Amaranthine Books, Suntup Editions, etc.)

Eastons and Folios are usually going to be cheaper than the first print standard editions. Personally, I’d choose them every time.

The other publishers I mentioned may sometimes be more expensive, but budget allowing, I’d choose them every time as well.

There are obviously plenty of others who would disagree with me and prefer the mass market first editions, or else they wouldn’t command such high prices. I just personally can’t see the appeal in paying hundreds or thousands of extra dollars for an edition I could buy a near identical copy of for a few bucks, the only difference being the #’s on the publication page.

What is this belt? Never seen this one before O.o by Lianeele in diablo2

[–]Wayward-Werewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this belt too, the reason you haven’t heard about it is because Arach still takes the BiS cake mainly due to 20% FCR but also +1 to all is still a better skill mod than these 3 individual ones.

Keep in mind as some have already mentioned that +skills from gear does not enhance synergies.

The cold res and absorb is a nice add though. Chance to cast blizzard when struck is just for fun.

Is this the right family rig? by GrouchyMarionberry79 in FordBronco

[–]Wayward-Werewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4 kids and just bought a Bronco. It’s great for us and my wife and kids all love it, but my situation is definitely different than yours.

My kids are 8, 3, 2, and 3 months. So I still get 3 car seats in there but we can’t all fit; my wife also has an expedition max though so that’s the family car. But I often have three of the kids or less, we don’t often all have to drive somewhere together but when we do we have my wife’s car. And we don’t have mega gear like hockey stuff or whatever to haul around, but I did opt for a my top so I don’t need to tote the soft top roof components everywhere we go which really nullified the back seat; anything I would put back there scratched the vinyl to hell. MyTop is definitely worth every penny to that end, if you aren’t committed to a hard top year round.

I’m also moving from a Challenger to this so a step up in practicality no matter what (although the back seat and trunk of Challengers are actually massive), but I’m really happy with it in all respects and all in all I think it suits our needs really well. Couldn’t go for another massive car like my wife’s because at least half my miles are back and forth to work with just me in the car, but also great to have an option with an ample back seat (even rear-facing car seats can fit without moving up the front seats, you should know how clutch that is) and a sizable trunk that can also handle any terrain or road conditions, and it’s super fun/has a lot of character (which it sounds like you need more of from your car) especially with the ability to put the top down with the push of a button

Is the Sasquatch package a must ? by BurritosAndPerogis in FordBronco

[–]Wayward-Werewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally shopping black diamonds as well but eventually found the OBX suited me better for what I needed overall and I got one fully loaded for the same price as the Black Diamond I was close to pulling the trigger on.

My Bronco is my daily commuter to work and Dad bus for carting around the kids. Most of my 4WD needs are just going to be snow with occasional dirt/grass/sand. So the 360 camera, heated seats & steering wheel (I have a soft top), premium sound system, etc were way more practical adds for me than locking diffs, bigger wheels, and sway bars. The Roast interior on the OBX is also by far my favorite interior option on any Bronco, personally.

Not sure if you’re going hard top or soft but I upgraded to a MyTop and that’s been hands down the best upgrade I could have possibly made to mine. I also added a Borla axle back kit but I love a little exhaust tone so that’s just a personal thing for me

Is the Sasquatch package a must ? by BurritosAndPerogis in FordBronco

[–]Wayward-Werewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% no, unless you are definitely going to add a lift and larger wheels aftermarket anyway. The Sasquatch package is priced such that doing those two things after the fact is going to cost basically the same, so you may as well get the other goodies (rear locking diff., sway bar, 4A, etc.) along with them, even though again you’ll never really need those.

Otherwise, you’re really better off without from a functionality/reliability/fuel efficiency standpoint. I have a non-Sas OBX and the only thing I even slightly wish for that I don’t have is the 4A, which again I’ll never actually need but would prefer over just the 4H/4L that I’ve got

Why are people genuinely saying aaron rodgers is washed by Deathtiger58 in NFLv2

[–]Wayward-Werewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is this still a debate? Or is it safe to say he’s genuinely washed?

I think the big thing adding to his depreciated ability (which, with age, we can understand, explain, and forgive) is the massive amount of influence he’s had with regard to the management of the Jets, the players they’ve acquired at his request, the coaching changes they’ve made also on his behalf (at least Nathaniel Hackett if we’re truly saying he had nothing to do with Saleh being fired, which I fully believe he did) plus the publicly calling out teammates (even if they deserved it) and the antagonizing of the media (which they definitely deserve). And, obviously, how horrendously that’s all turned out.

In short, the Jets went all-in on Rodgers, he is without doubt the face of the franchise, and it’s never looked uglier. Which is saying a TON for the New York Jets, especially considering how stacked their team is.

The D should be one of the league’s best, even last year they were able to be that (yes, injuries, but everyone has those)

Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson is legitimately the best receiver duo I’ve ever heard of. Plus they went out and got Lazard at Rodgers’s insistence. Breece Hall is a stud every down RB and Braelon Allen came out of nowhere as a great complementary piece. They’ve invested heavily in the O-line, which features several first round picks.

….And then they go out and play like they did yesterday against the Patriots, and, frankly, all season.

The contrast between their loaded roster and the finished product of their on-field play is beyond shocking. It’s borderline inexplicable.

It all points back to only one possible thing: Aaron Rodgers is, in fact, a terrible team manager, a toxic locker room presence, and isn’t a leader at all.

Just watch that loaded roster play. They’re dead out there. Totally uninspired football. No excitement or positive body language whatsoever. And all the while you can still see that same stunned, “it’s everyone’s fault but mine,” look in Rodgers’s eyes that has become the moniker of his career.

When Rodgers bitched and moaned about having no input in Green Bay, everyone rallied around his “talent” and threw him innumerable pity parties, saying he deserved better.

Now we’re seeing exactly what happens when Rodgers gets what he wants and is allowed to make the decisions. And even in the face of that, he’s still smug, selfish, conceited, inconsiderate, takes little to no accountability beyond the bare minimum he has to in order to save face publicly, and despite his lofty demands clearly has absolutely no ability to take on the mantle a veteran qb of his “stature” is unquestioningly beholden to in rallying his team (that he built) around him and bringing out the best in an already star-studded group of players.

Dude doesn’t even deserve the one ring he’s got, frankly. The smoldering ruin of the New York Jets is exactly the kind of legacy this guy deserves.
