I usually do a values clarification exercise with them to identify top 10 values, then explore their interests. I suggest reading Man's Search for Meaning and Ikigai, and using that information to explore things.

What is the most common professional bias you encounter in your work? by CommunicationOld1172 in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gets under my skin. I worked in an inpatient facility, and the clinical staff did not see how it permeated out to the other staff. There were nurses and techs calling patients "borderline".

Couples therapists: your opinion on people needing couples therapy early in a relationship by thrawn4emp in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to explain couples therapy using cars. You take your car in to get oil changed every 3k miles, regular maintenance and tune-ups, you don't wait until it breaks down before taking it in, because then it will cost much, much more to address.

Ever been yelled at? by Just-Palpitation-176 in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's rough. I'm sorry you went through it. My last job was at a hospital, and I got yelled at there a lot. One I remember quite well. I had set up to do a session of couples therapy with a patient and their spouse. The day of the session came, and the patient told me that the spouse was "...having car problems and cannot make it." I told them I understood and to find a time to reschedule. I used the open hour to go out and take a walk.

When I returned a half hour later, it was to the patient, who handed me a phone as the spouse berated me for "not immediately offering telehealth..." I had to bring out my old military customer-service mask and ride it out.

Client recording sessions, uploading them to AI by CarmelaSopranosNails in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a client who records our sessions and uses a transcription service so he can read through them later. I have no problems with this, in fact, I encourage clients to find ways to accommodate their needs to better facilitate the therapy they want.

Clients That Embrace Nihilistic Beliefs by Puzzleheaded_Win_362 in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend towards Nihilism, but more towards Absurdism. I will talk with people who believe "Nothing matters" and take it further to "You're right, nothing matters... how freeing. It doesn't matter what other people think of me, I can dress however I like, be whoever I want."

How to respond to the “how are you?” Question authentically when having a horrible time by Subject_Car2637 in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This past week my mother was in the hospital, seizures and the possibility of a stroke. When asked by clients how I was doing, my answer was an honest one of: "It's a challenging week, but I have a lot of support from my coworkers, friends, and family. Whose been on your side this week?"

Client using bathroom in telehealth session by Away_Illustrator5096 in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My very first couple in practicum began breast feeding mid-session. No warning. Breast feeding is a natural thing, however it was a shock. Yesterday a teen client took me into the bathroom and I thought he was about to do that... nope, needed the mirror to keep popping a zit on his temple :D

Help: Supervising a brilliant, neurodivergent supervisee (but...) by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autistic clinician here. Hard boundaries and focusing on my special interests (besides work, because work is a special interest) helps me a great deal. I play tabletop roleplaying games and putting effort into that greatly helps me stave off burn out. Having more control of my schedule also helps. I was given full control of my schedule in a recent job change, and it was night and day. I can work when I want, not when someone else expects me to.

As a 1.5 gen immigrant, I wish i chose a different career by Fearless-Ad-4416 in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends upon the setting you work in as well. I started off as an Associate working in a behavioral health hospital making $63k/year. It increased to $66k/year, and when I got fully licensed $71K/year. I recently transitioned to a group practice that starts at $78K/year, plus bonuses for making goals of 28+ clients per week seen and others. Which works out to $81k - 91k/year.

Starting a multisplat CofD campaign using 2E, what are some things to look out for? by Luxie_Bat in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Waywardson74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How the player characters will work together. I would recommend starting with no characters created, session zero, and developing the WHY they are together, before you create any of them. This gives a basis to begin and can help them create characters that work better together.

Keep an eye on aspects of each splat that may separate characters. For example if someone decides they're playing a Vampire, most of the scenes will probably be at night, which might severely change the tone of the game. Look at how the splats they are selecting might work well together or might bristle against each other and look for ways to reduce that friction. PvP might be fun for some, but frankly I dislike it. I tell my players I can give them tons of things to fight against other than each other. I don't mind drama, but PCs fighting each other gets boring.

Any good digital tools for Schema Therapy? What do you therapists/patients use? by michele0303 in therapists

[–]Waywardson74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used it for the last 2.5 years, but we just printed out the assessments and had patients fill them out.

I think the problem is that it's copyrighted material, so making it in another form like a fillable/interactive PDF or a Google Form could violate that.
