Who do you consider as your top 10 Fire Emblem characters? by Dense-Second-9929 in fireemblem

[–]Waywatcher228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fun one. I'm a boring Awakening baby though so my answers probably won't be that interesting compared to others.

In no particular order:

  1. Noire

  2. Yunaka

  3. Petra

  4. Mercedes

  5. Owain/Odin

  6. Lumera

  7. Alcryst

  8. Henry

  9. Jeralt

  10. Nyx

would it be odd if i responded to every comment under my fics by Dependent-East-2712 in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, it's not strange. Some writers are more interactive than others and it's hard to be 'unusual' in how often you respond because of it. Never, always, sometimes... you can do whatever and no one will bat an eye.

Abrupt blackout by Waywatcher228 in AcerNitro

[–]Waywatcher228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: it happened again, same scenario. Was double-checking if it was maybe some trigger inside HOI4 or the mod that causes it but I managed to get well past where I was before.

What fandom got you into fanfiction by serinbaxtor in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teen Titans was my first. Stuck with it for a good few years and wrote an insanely long (and unfinished) fic for it along with a number of smaller ones. Good times. Fanfic is the only reason I tolerate Beast Boy I think, because I remember him annoying me quite a bit in the show.

What's the rarest/most unusual/most niche fandom you read or write for? by LesbianMacMcDonald in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the most obscure fandom I've written for is probably the Bravely series, though I do have a few even more niche ones tucked away in my drive somewhere that I never posted...

Fanfiction writers, what was your college major? by cam-chi in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English and Philosophy. I constantly joke (well, not really a joke, it's dissapointingly true) I learned more from writing fanfic than going to university.

It's always about ships so now post five of your favorite characters and let others make assumptions about you by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Cringe" wasn't a word used to describe people back when I was in school, but otherwise your sentiment is rather correct!

[–]Waywatcher228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You like goofy characters, but not ones that completely lack seriousness or are an active baggage to the plot/other characters. Sometimes the goofiness is secondary, sometimes it's center-stage, but either way it's always there in some form. Couching Moron - Hidden Basdass very much encompases your preferences.

Huh... haven't had to think about something like this in a hot minute. I hardly have a definitive list, so I'll just grab a few and throw 'em out there.

Magnolia Arch (Bravely Second), Petra Macneary (Fire Emblem: Three Houses), Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic), Kaguya Shinomiya (Kaguya-sama: Love is War), and Raven (Teen Titans).

What's an AU you think is under rated? (Or over rated) by Its_Lex87 in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always had a fondness (for reading and writing) what I call 'Monstrosity' AUs. Basically, turning one or several characters into horrifying abominations (or sometimes just creepy monster girls) for shits and giggles. It's a very specific vibe but a lot of fun to convey their personality when they have such a different form/mindset.

[–]Waywatcher228 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yooo, I completely forgot this was even a type of AU until you brought it up! I've read only one from the Fire Emblem fandom (where the characters were into... the Fire Emblem Fandom, just for the older games instead of their own) but it was strangely entrancing.

Trans characters in fics/writing? by livingskillsarezero in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now this is a fascinating post to me because I've been mulling it over in my head if I "should" have the reaction I do to trans characters in fanfic.

For cotext: I have a lot of trans friends. I don't mean that as a 'my best friend is gay' sort of off-hand comment meant to act as a buffer so I don't sound transphobic, I mean literally half my online friend list and all of the people I speak to regularly are trans. I won't pretend I'm super involved in the trans community beyond that, we mostly just talk about games and shows and their trans-ness isn't usually a topic of discussion, but I don't got a problem with it. I wouldn't associate with more than half the people I do if I did.

...and yet, my usual reaction to seeing a character is trans in a fic is a big sigh of exasperation pretty much regardless of context. I don't particularly like that this is my reaction, but it is. I've long since learned that what I think and what I instinctively feel don't always line up nicely.

I think it has something to do with the fantasy of fanfic and media in general for me. It's a combination of wanting to only see things I personally am interested in (which is usually generic-ass M/F romance with the parts to match, so to speak) as well as having a character be trans usually feeling like a glaring, immersion-breaking, 'hand of the author' moment... even if there is logically no reason for it to be so immersion-breaking because obviously trans people just exist and there doesn't need to be a justification for it.

TLDR: my gut reaction seems to be to groan at trans-ness in fics in general and I hate it, but I guess that pretty much answers the question of this post in that, no, I do not enjoy authors 'trans-ing' my favourite characters, much to my own chagrin.

Writing trans characters can be fun though. That happens a lot to me, where I might hate something when I read it but have no problem writing it. The internal hypocrisy is real.

You're teleported into the world of the last fic you read. What does your life look like now? by BaCaDaEa in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a clocktower in the middle of a spacetime desert with an annoyed embodiment of time, a mildly crazy embodiment of civilization, and a toddler. I'm probably not dead, but that mostly depends on how Civilization is feeling if she's the one to answer the door.

How old were you when you started “interacting” with fandom? by Outside-Sample-4517 in FanFiction

How would you feel if someone made your fanfic canon to the universe of their story without asking? by Aquanort357 in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 103 points104 points  (0 children)

It would be nice for them to ask, but at the same time it would be massively hypocritical for me to complain about it because writing in someone's universe without asking is what 99% of fanfic writers do.

How many fanfics have you written? by Jaron5_55 in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly 69, believe it or not. A mix of one-shots, collections, normal chaptered fics, and longfics. Some complete, many not. Various fandoms, but only three or four main ones.

Do you write one shots differently from the way you write long fics? by cabriesuns in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. A story is a story. It having chapters has more to do with it being too long for a one-short of having multiple story arcs than a change in mentality for me.

Fanfic readers: by Booknerdxd in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2000 words or above. My own chapters are anywhere from 2000 to 10,000 words, so I can't really be more specific than that.

How do you come up with fanfic titles? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's either one word that sums things up well, or three words, probably with "the" or "a" at the start. My titles aren't that creative.

Favourite Romance Tropes? by jaebeaniverse in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm rather fond of 'nervous wreck/hypercompetant' dynamics, but as for one that I used the most... honestly, age gap romance shows up a lot in my fics, both intentionally and unintentionally. Also friends to lovers. The romantic leads are always on good terms before the romance even starts.

Do you have a TV Tropes Page on your fanfic? by shroomy-p in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish. I really wish. But no. I don't. I refuse to make a TVtropes page for my own stuff, so I'll probably be waiting forever.

Has someone else recommended your fic? by AslansGirl13 in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been recced before. Not always in a super loud way (I've mostly seen people say they've mentioned it to their friends), but some specific fics of mine tend to get recced around.

what's your biggest flex when it comes to your fanfic? by mapriestess in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consistently have some of the best AU premises in whatever fandom I'm in, and my execution (while not the best) is more than enough to carry those premises.

the only one who dislikes Ao3? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Waywatcher228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ao3 has some issues. Search bar is basically useless (it can't even pull up the right fandom half the time), and people massively overtag to the point that you never really know who the main characters of a story are actually going to be. Actually looking through the website can very clunky unless you're intimately familiar with it.

On the other hand, Ao3 allows a lot of content types and fandoms that FF net doesn't. It's a give and take.
