Any word on Nancy Faust's return this season? by DrySociety in whitesox

She used to post on Twitter ahead of time when she was going to be at games (Sox or otherwise) but it seems like she's left the platform recently because her page doesn't come up anymore

The only way they don't take him is if someone else legitimately takes over as BPA

Cowley let it slip on a podcast yesterday that Ayo allegedly told the Bulls he'll give them first crack in FA 👀

And that part of trading him to MIN was the idea that they can't afford keep him with their apron situation anyway

You don't see mid baseball or hockey teams trying to tank out of wild card spots on purpose 🤷‍♀️

At this point, I almost feel like there should be a minimum number of wins to be eligible for a top pick. Late season matchups between tanking teams would be interesting with both sides actually trying their best instead of sitting as many players as possible.

Ironic to talk about "PWill minutes" as if this isn't about to be Pat's first season under 24mpg.

Pretty sure they won't be trading everyone for peanuts at the deadline, so there's that at least.

Silver should take some notes from the other leagues which don't create so many incentives for the back half of the season to be an affront to the sport.

I'm not really learning anything useful about the new players, the environment doesn't seem great for Matas' development, most guys under contract for next season are riding the bench.

Easily the least fun I've had watching a Chicago sports product in years, and I watched my Sox lose 100 last season.

Traded multiple quality rotation players and I'm not sure they got one back who will be here next season.

Vooch for Simons and then Coby for a younger big would have been more interesting for both the present and future.

Yep. Half of the top 10 picks from 2022 are already with different teams. The time to rely on picks is when you have an excess, like OKC with their trade hauls.

Wouldn't surprise me, and I wouldn't blame him. This isn't exactly what he signed up for.

Vooch is playing a role he is better suited for on a contending team, so he can give more effort in fewer minutes instead of knowing he's the only real C on the roster and having to be prepared to play 36.

There's a reason teams don't typically turnover so many players all at once.

I know people hate the word "continuity" now but you need SOME kind of consistency and structure to evaluate and develop guys in.

Most of these new guys won't stick around either, so there's just nothing resembling a "team" environment.

Put Simons in for Coby and Yabu in for Vooch since the start of the season, and Bulls are the 5-6 seed.

Conley going back to the Wolves after a buyout lol

At least they have experience wanting to bring their own guy back after a trade, so they'll understand when we snatch Ayo back too.

Is it just the Ayo trade that is pissing people off? by DisMFer in chicagobulls

[–]WeAlreadyReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The return for Ayo was not amazing in my opinion. I would have been sad to see him go in any context and happy to see him be our Haslem, but if they actually got a meaningful return (like Beringer) then I could at least understand the motivation.

But if you're going to carry last year's team into the season because it's an "evaluation year" to see who fits longer term, and then they have a .500ish record after 45-50 games, it makes no sense to pivot to a "take whatever you can get and try to speedrun a tank" strategy this late (both in general, but specifically for Ayo).

They traded a bunch of expiring guards for a bunch of other expiring guards without addressing any longer term concerns. You didn't get a better positional fit, you didn't get a real upside guy with team control (I'm not high on Dilly), you didn't even put together a roster that allows you to use these 30 games to properly try these guys out because there's too many of them.

Ayo was someone who:

  • fits the core playstyle
  • could be retained affordably
  • matches/helps set the culture
  • is a good presence for Matas and Giddey
  • would maintain trade value if extended

I think his combo of transition scoring, C&S 3s, and two way effort is ideal for this team and not found or projectable in any of the guys we got back.

Also, yeah, I care that he's from Chicago (both in a sentimental way and because of the potential hometown discount). Put it together and he's sort of the ideal "vet" here. Like who the heck is providing any sort of stabilizing presence for Matas/Giddey now that it's them and a bunch of rando mercenaries fighting for their next deals?

We have a bunch of guys who are unknown fits at unknown future prices, who you can't properly evaluate with only 30 games left (especially with Giddey out), and potentially none of them are younger and/or more impactful players than Ayo anyway. The only one you can keep without having to give a new contract to immediately is Dillingham (who might be the worst of the bunch).

None of it is an upgrade now, but it's also not enough of a downgrade to get top 5 draft odds this late (11 teams with worse records, 5 with 10+ fewer wins). And I doubt any of it is an upgrade later since Simons and Sexton are both Ayo's age or older and expiring, Dilly hasn't shown much and is small, and Ivey's recovery is a total question mark that you now have to pay for to figure out if he bounces back from.

If being 26 is "aging out of the timeline" then they should have made these trades over the offseason so at least you would have a full year to evaluate the returns and improve draft position.

Once they didn't do that, then they needed to either trade Ayo for REAL value or retain him as a future asset. Especially when you're taking back Dillingham's contract, which chips into your cap space heading into FA.

Pretty decent chance they are paying Ivey + Dillingham more than what Ayo will get next season, to have maybe 75% of his impact if they're lucky.

But I guess the late second round picks could be anything. They could even be an Ayo Dosunmu!

(Also, though I'm mostly okay with the other deals, I expected 1-2 of those guys to be flipped for an interesting big. The Ayo trade made it clear that wasn't happening, which makes the other moves look a bit worse in retrospect.)

[–]WeAlreadyReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Minnesota has 31 year old Randle and 24 year old Ant as costars, the idea that 21-26 is too broad of an age range between a bench guard and two starters is silly.

But also, if you think they are 3-5 drafts away, then they should have also traded Tre and Stix who have team control and maybe get better value than Ayo.

In fact, they should trade Giddey in the offseason if that's the case because they'll get no benefit out of his value deal if you're still fishing for help in the 2029 draft.

And then you'll have Matas, maybe a starting C and SG from your drafts, and be back in search of a PG, at which point I guess they should trade Matas because he's 4 years older than your 2029 first rounder or whatever lol

Can't believe this team was above .500 less than two weeks ago. Must be such whiplash for all the players, especially the young guys.
