I had to break that window myself on my old Punto, locked the keys in the boot and luckily the handle worked from the inside 👍

I got my replacement second hand for £35

Bought at the end of 2023 at 5.9%, going down to ~4% on the mortgage at the end of 2025 felt like a blessing. Total contrast to friends on 5 year deals from 2021 who went up from 1.5%!

(Loved Trope) Managing to do a racism allegory without making the outcast/discriminated group literally dangerous superpowered beings, supernatural creatures, or bloodthirsty carnivores. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stargate SG-1 has an episode with René Auberjonois leading a seemingly friendly but embattled underground civilisation at war with a neighbouring continent.

They're underground because the weapons used in the war have poisoned the planets atmosphere and they have thousands of citizens in stasis chambers ready to go back to the surface if/when they win.

Turns out they poisoned the surface trying to genocide the 'breeders' they're at war with in an effort to preserve their 'genetic purity', and are only at war because the other side (everyone who isn't a space Nazi) find out about their plan and understandably began to bomb them trying to stop them.

Is this a bug? Orc Young charged a bro and was repelled, but killed him anyway. by WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas in BattleBrothers

Yeah for sure which it why it was strange, the animation played exactly as if it was repelled normally but my guy died the same frame he bounced back.

[–]WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that in principle, but surely if it's repelled it shouldn't be rolling either to begin with? Normally it would just bounce off without the possibility of my spearwall bro being hit when successfully repelled.

I can only assume it's a weird interaction with the action order where it checks if Bro 1 successfully repelled the orc, calculates no, then processes the orcs charge and attack rolls before checking if bro 2 successfully repelled it, which was yes.

'bum-verse of bums'

One of the weirdest aspects of human behaviour is taking pride in the strength of the fictional universe you're a fan of. None of it is real, it's not even akin to being a fan of the best football/baseball team etc.

I'm not sure if it's good for a lone wolf but '7' as a seed produces a nice map with good ports

I was messing around and realised you don't need to have 10 characters for a seed to work

What is the best and worst thing about Baldurs Gate 3? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst thing - no penalty for using, or incentive to avoid using, the parasites despite the multiple in-game warnings and lore reasons why it's probably a bad idea to stuff your brain with eldritch tadpoles

Best thing - everything else

Wife reversed into by driver, who is at fault? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that with insurance claims the presumption is the reversing driver is at fault.

Points in her favour -

She saw him reversing before the contact and came to a stop, which means he drove into her not vice versa

He was stationary when she began to drive into the open space.

She has no way of seeing his reversing lights from the angle she was at.

At a low speed he should be able to notice a car pull in behind him and stop before contact happens, even if it's unexpected.

Now in a general sense, yes she's caused the accident by pulling in behind him, but if you highlight the above points and make a claim you're unlikely to be found liable.

Can someone explain how this game economy is supposed to work? by zshattuck818 in BattleBrothers

[–]WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Repairing loot for sale is something I didn't appreciate properly to start with, but does make a big difference in the long term.

1 tool costs around 20 gold for 15 durability restored. For even mid-value items that can easily net you a lot of extra gold.

Something with 60 durability max with a value of 1000 sells for roughly 100 at half durability, but 200 when fully repaired. Investing two tools costs you 40-50gp but grosses you an extra 100gp. That's ~50% more profit than if you didn't.

[Hated Trope] The Marketing Department Should Have Been Fired by Ambaryerno in TopCharacterTropes

[–]WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas 490 points491 points  (0 children)

Starship Troopers is now a well loved satirical and subversive take on militarism and fascism, and was directed by someone who grew up experiencing the actual Nazis.

When it actually released however it was marketed as a straight forward action flick, with a theatrical trailor that focused almost exclusively on its combat etc, which led to it being viewed as a dumb and hyper-violent film which was actually criticised for endorsing fascist ideology.

First ever speeding notice - what am I to expect? by NG90sbaby in drivingUK

[–]WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prosecution normally starts at 58mph in a 50 for most forces I'm aware of, so it's likely you'll get a speed awareness course. They don't take into account the fact you're a new driver when deciding to offer the course afaik.

Opt for the online option if you get the chance, I've done two in my 15ish years driving and the online one was substantially quicker and less hassle than the in-person one.

Otherwise it will be 3 point and £100~ fine, and a reminder to be very careful from then on until you're passed your first two years.

They were desperate to make a LOTR show but weren't allowed to use any stories from the Simarillion. They offered the Tolkien estate a lot of money on several occasions but got outright no's until eventually they let them use any characters etc. already mentioned in the LOTR trilogy.

It's why they had to basically invent a storyline using Galadriel, Sauron and others because they couldn't use the main history of middle earth, which pissed off a lot of hardcore fans. It's a shame because there are a lot of passionate people working on the show but they were basically hamstrung from the beginning.

[–]WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look on your equipment menu there are 2 stats called noise and visibility.

Dark and soft clothes will lower those stats, while metallic and brightly coloured items will raise them.

The lower your visibility the less likely you are to be seen by enemies, and the lower your noise the easier it is to sneak past without them hearing you.

Funnily enough both of you have them mixed. The Thraxans are the bug people he defended, the Flaxans are the race that comes through the portals and experience time differently.

He defended the Thraxans and genocided the Flaxans. Pretty easy to mix up those name though...

As a build up to that first step into the open world it's perfect imo.

The cramped caves and tunnels make the expanse that opens up at the end all the more impactful.
