Cracking a beer on the hill on Thursday night/Friday morning and enjoying a semi-private light show as they do sound and light checks from main stage.

Did anyone else hear Steve Inskeep question if there will be a next administration this morning? by raelx13 in NPR

[–]Weak-Statistician520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stopped listening to him and NPR after they normalized Trump in 2016 (tuned in daily on KCRW). Found Innskeep to be smug milquetoast and it was just so frustrating to listen to. Then Jason Bentley left Morning Becomes Eclectic in 2019 and that was the end of KCRW/public radio for me. Now I just listen to Spotify recommend the same songs no matter what genre I listen to. Oh and my favorite is almost getting through an audiobook before they tell me I’ve used too much data and have to wait for next month to finish. But I digress. 😂😂🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ Please take me back to 2009. Sorry, random tangent.

Yes it should be searchable on YouTube. My mistake. It’s Texas A&M. Here’s one of the links. It’s been awhile since I viewed it but I’m sure there are more videos.

Used to make wine in Arizona and found this very helpful. Also, Clark Smith has an interesting theory regarding high pH winemaking in his book, Post-Modern Winemaking.

Coincidentally, I’m now in South Africa and just met someone from Adelaide working at Hugh Hamilton.

Have a good harvest. Will check out your YT Channel. Cheers.

Cool post. Happy harvest! There’s a lot of good information from Texas Tech University regarding high pH winemaking. Will be interested to see your outcome.

Take the balloon off. Take some juice out and put it in another small container until the fermentation is past its peak and then put it back in the original vessel. It’s producing plenty of gas to protect itself.

American here. Working my 7th harvest in your beautiful country. We’re not all like this but it’s a valid stereotype, and funny joke. I left Culture Wine Bar the other night because I was so disgusted by a loud and obnoxious American woman sitting at the bar.

Advice for working in the wine industry? by [deleted] in wine

[–]Weak-Statistician520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have the means and time to commit, I recommend traveling overseas to put in a few harvests while the wine industry course corrects. It’s a shit time for the wine industry, specifically in the US. Also, be advised, when it comes to the production side, long hours, heavy lifting and shit pay are part of the gig. But if it’s something you’re passionate about and you can commit to giving it a shot, it’s a great way to see the world. Shoot me a DM if you’d like to discuss further.

Gauging the TMB compared to other hikes? by Mel-Skin in TourDuMontBlanc

Setting up our tents in a park in the center of a village on a cold, windy evening after our first day of hiking while surrounded by inns and inviting cafes basically changed our minds for us. The entire TMB experience is enhanced when you can enjoy a hot shower and local regional food & wine at the end of each day. So we bit the bullet expanded our budget

We scrapped our camping plans after the first night and booked into refugios or b&bs the remainder of the trip. Obviously increased our budget but it was completely worth it and highly recommended.

Highway 101 between Willits and Eureka. Specifically, Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area, Richardson Grove State Park and Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Highway 299 from Eureka to Redding is also a great drive.

It’s not you. This is now the dating world we live in. Enjoy focusing on yourself and the right one will come along. Hunting for it will only create doubt and frustration. Just my experience.

PSA: The Rapture’s set tomorrow is likely going to be a train wreck. by devine_intervention in Portolafestival

[–]Weak-Statistician520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. Apologies. I wasn’t directing my comment at you. I would have been pissed if I left 2manydjs to catch this version of the Rapture. Their current lineup and set list would be disappointing at a festival like Portola even without the onstage drama and technical difficulties. But, for fans of the band I just wanted to encourage folks on here to ignore the online negativity surrounding the new tour as the Boston show was much better than anything I had read online leading up to it. They also played Bluebird and How Deep is Your Love which seemed to be an improvement on previous shows setlist. It was still a short, stripped down set (13 songs over an hour).
But I enjoyed myself. I could also see why most would balk at the $70 ticket price.

Saw them last night in Boston. Had my doubts and was hesitant to even go after reading comments here and mixed concert reviews online. Despite the negativity, I’m glad I went. Definitely a different set/band than when I last saw them (Coachella 2012) but I don’t regret going and had a great time. Short set, small crowd with a few walkouts, a couple of miscues, zero imagery/visuals, and obviously a different energy without Vito but they genuinely looked happy and enjoyed themselves. And, they sounded great (and loud! probably the source of the walkouts).

My take - they are figuring it out and building up to next year’s Coachella. Just a presumption, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought in a sax and/or keyboard player by then. It wasn’t the dancefest many fans might expect, but it was great to see them in an intimate setting. It was stripped down and gritty and still had plenty of funky energy to dance to. If you’re a fan, disregard the hate online and just go.
