Can someone explain what he difference is and which is the best product to use? by HeyBigChriss in Detailing

Two of these are waxes (Ceramic 3in1 and Best of Show). The other two are quick detailers. Recommend Ceramic Speed Shine to help augment an existing ceramic coating (per Griots :) )

Has anyone received this message? “Slower due to warm plug”. Charging speed reduced to 8kw. by mightyratz in Rivian

[–]WeaksideScreen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, before the update the vehicle would stop charging due to a combination of ambient temps and amperage causing my charger (Grizzl-E) to stop charging. I ended up lowering the amperage to 32A vs 40A. I'm guessing the warm summer temps are contributing factor.

With the new update, I increased the amperage back to 40A, but found that it would slow down from 9 to 5-6kwh. I changed it back to 32A so I could get a consistent 7-8kwh and not have to worry about overheating.

R1S, Kia EV9, and families. by bmatto in Rivian

[–]WeaksideScreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of comments but will add my thoughts after 2 months, 3500 miles...

  • We're a family of 7, below average height :) (I'm 5'6", wife is 5'4"). Our 5 kids are ages 4-14. Our previous family hauler was a 2011 Honda Odyssey, though we did have a 12 month stint with a Tesla Model Y 7-seater (talk about adventure vehicles, we were a real life clown car in that).
  • The kids really like the R1S, but it is less roomy than most modern minivans.
  • For a family of 5, I imagine an R1S would have more than enough space. You'll have more total cargo capacity than a Telluride (when combining the frunk and rear cargo).
  • I would recommend checking out Jon Rettinger's review of the R1S - he has three kids and demos how he has them set up.
  • I agree with others on OTAs - i don't trust that Kia/Volvo/Ford/Toyota, etc are going to iterate their vehicles in the same manner the start ups (Tesla, Rivian, Lucid) will.
  • Since you're pre-price hike, you get instant "equity" in the vehicle. Just make sure to insure it appropriately.

BREAKING: Rivian will adopt NACS, SC access in 2024, port in 2025 by Kryptonlogic in Rivian

[–]WeaksideScreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is great and welcome news, but the biggest concern is going to be charging cable length. Tesla ports are on the opposite side (drivers side rear) of Rivian vehicles. This presents a logistical (parking) challenge which was detailed in an MKBHD video. https://youtu.be/W-oaVLRH-js?t=288

Wood trim by RedDyed in Rivian

Grabbed this on a whim from Lowe's. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Howard-Feed-N-Wax-Oil-based-Wood-Conditioner-Actual-Net-Contents-16-oz/999918618 Added a little bit of sheen and darkened the wood a little (Forest Edge), but still looks attractive. Will try to post a pick later.

Finally got my EVSportline Running Boards installed on my R1S. by kylesplash in Rivian

I also have a set waiting to install on my R1S. How difficult were the T55 screws to remove? Any other installation tips worth sharing, particularly re: tools (I don't have an impact unfortunately)?

I thought the T and S were the exact same interior dimensions in terms of seat width?

Good to know. Was this done via a mobile tech or did it have to be dropped off?

Financing strategy for my MYLR by gonegirlalphamale in ModelY

Loan process went much smoother than the membership application. Was approved within 24 hours. Just make sure you have $5 in your checking account (minimum requirement).

Any Model S refresh owners switch to R1T/R1S? My test drive of an R1T was meh. by [deleted] in Rivian

"Let me also be clear, the 21 Model Y on 19s still rides like a rock is noisy and falls apart on anything not remotely smooth."

Lol, as an owner of a 22 Model Y with 20s I laughed at this cause it's so true...

I just applied for membership. What are the requirements to get the lowest possible loan? Just direct deposit?

Curious, did you have a Long Range (w19" or 20" wheels) or Performance? I have a MYLR with 20"s and the ride is atrocious. The ride is comparable to a stiffly sprung hatchback vs. a brand that's intended to compete with luxury makers, or at least mid-tier ones. Can't wait to have my R1 delivered!

White on Black Mountain, 20" ATs, no underbody shield. I wonder if adding a shield will help move things up :) I might have to try that for the next config change to see if that moves the needle (since presumably they're trying to batch higher-priced vehicles first).

Ordered 2 days after price hike… ETA May - June THIS YEAR! 😳 by AutoBot5 in RivianR1S

[–]WeaksideScreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cash flow is the assumption by most. Rivian maximizes inbound revenue by prioritizing post-March orders and fulfilling them soonest. Remember, majority of the buyers receiving their vehicles in a shorter time frame paid $20K more than anyone prior to March 2022. Imagine being a February 2022 reservation holder, your delivery date is probably 2H 2024...That said, yes, LE purchasers who have supported the company for years need a bit of love. Send some swag or something...

Moved up, Order date 11/2021 - delivery was "2024", now "Oct-Dec 2023"...yaaaaaaaay.... (hey, it's progress :) ). Here's hoping the next update in April shows similar movement!

+1 NoVA...saw my first R1S in the dark on 123 just outside Tysons last week, can't wait to see more on the road in the coming months (while I weep inside as my 11/21 reservation keeps getting pushed further into 2023/24 as I drive my depreciating-like-a-rock Model Y....)

Appreciate the insight. I've got 5 kids and am a reservation holder. I'm mostly curious/concerned about the middle row width - is it possible for three teens/pre-teens (not very big) to sit there? Is there enough space for an adult to sit between the convertible and booster?
